My Mom was a recent resident at Alden Estates Orland Park, for a short rehab stay. Her experience was terrible. As a cardiac patient, they fed her bacon and eggs…every morning. I had to speak with the dietitian twice, to get this corrected. On one occasion, a CNA refused to clean her pot, and got physical with her. I spoke with a nurse, who promised to address the situation. I do not know if this ever happened. Lastly, my Mother is not the same as she was going in. When she entered this place, she acted and spoke normally. When she left, I noticed a difference in her behavior….a pattern that persists to this day. I may pursue legal action. Oh…speaking of that…the very first thing they have you sign is an arbitration agreement, in lieu of legal action. I am aware patients at other facilities have filed a class-action suit. Perhaps the same needs to happen here.

- No communication from staff after your loved one has entered the facility - Conflicting responses when you get one from staff - Patients so medicated they can not move/walk/eat - 'Rules' and 'Laws' change at every turn, and each staff member is unsure of anything - Leadership does NOT reply to repeated messages, its almost impossible to get a response on what happened, how - Mother has been waiting 18 months to see a dentist - Mother has fallen multiple times in 6 months but no one knows 'how' or 'when' they only know they found her.....but cant explain how long she was laying in the floor - Activity coordinator is very kind - Meal time is fun for the residents do NOT put your loved one in this facility, you will regret it the moment you drop them off.

My father was a resident for about five months in 2017. They did not have any care plan meetings or give us contact information so we could initiate any conversations about his care. They expected family to care for him when they didn't have enough staff. They took my father off of all his therapies and did not notify the family, so charged us for his care when it would have been covered by insurance and was not giving him the help he needed. The social worker was rude and did not care about safety of the family or residents. They would only call when sending him to the hospital or to collect money. It's clear where their priorities are, and it is not caring for their patients. Worst experience of my families life dealing with these people.

This place is HORRIBLE!! The CNA'S are NOT EXPERIENCED. They do not know what they are doing. I had three different CNA's tell me three different things. My grandmother needed to be re positioned and they never did it until I complained to management. Once I complained to management they started doing it and then stopped again. They don't clean the rooms. When a patient rings their bell It takes them 30 + minutes to come. There were so many times when my grandmother urinated on herself because it took the CNA'S so long to attend her. This is hazardous because if she was choking or in a real life crisis the CNA'S wouldn't know because they take their sweet time. My grandmother was left with no food for over 8 hours. The nurses and CNA'S do not care about their patients and their excuse is that there isn't enough workers on staff. This place is too expensive to not have the proper treatment. This place actually needs to be reported. TERRIBLE place!

My family member was treated poorly. As he was declining he was ignored and treated like he was an annoyance. He missed several Dr apps and was usually not clean and was wearing dirty clothes. His clothes went missing all the time and I had to bring new stuff when I visited. When he was sent to the hospital for erratic behavior I reached out to the director and social worker and was and still am ignored. My relative passed away and I still haven't heard from anyone. Please do NOT send your loved one there!

I regret having my husband transferred by ambulance from [Removed] to Alden Estates of Orland Park. He was there less than 18 hours for post op rehab, when I took him out of there. His pain medications, antibiotics, and shot for his blood clots were never given to him with the exception of a Tylenol for pain given at my request at dinner the day of his admission. He arrived on Friday afternoon and was not going to see a Doctor until Tuesday for an evaluation, if in fact that would even happen, as no appointment time was given. Until then he was to remain in a wheelchair despite the fact that he could navigate with a walker especially with the blood clots in his legs. The very next morning I learned that he did not receive any of his medications in more than 15 hours. When I questioned the pharmacist for a printout of what had been given to him I was told he had no information showing any meds had been given. Such a disgrace. He was to receive a shot at midnight for the clots and pain meds every two hours. Too many patients and too few caretakers. I should have known right from the start this place was not satisfactory when they couldn't find his records when I first asked for his pain meds 3 hours after he was admitted!

This facility is understaffed, underqualified, unsecured, outdated and frankly disgusting. Within 5 hours, I received a call from the facility stating that my mother fell out of bed. The nurse was not polite nor caring whatsoever. Her tone quite frankly set me off a bit. When I asked mom why this happened- she had to use the restroom and no one came. Mom had bruises on her back, buttocks and knee. I also noticed on several visits my mother was being fed meals that included pasta, bread, cakes and ice cream- she is diabetic. By Wednesday morning, mom was sent to the ER for severe stoma bleeding. She had not had these types of issues in weeks. Her bleeding was so severe she needed a transfusion. On Friday I walked in to the ER again to find my mother completely covered in blood. When I asked the head nurse at Alden why my mother was not put in the clean clothing I left for her, her response was “do you want me to let your mother bleed all over her pajamas?” She also made it clear that my mother’s case was too much for her staff to handle and that she has 20 other patients assigned to the same nurse. Yet they took her in. I also complained about a severe urine odor in my mom’s room near the upholstered furniture. It was also mentioned to me by the moms nurse that her stoma was different that anything she ever worked with.-Yet they took on a stoma patient. I might add my mother’s stoma is quite standard. One week later on a monday, my mother went out for a radiation appointment and never came back. We did not find this out until Tuesday afternoon when a family member called to check on her. The nurse who was assigned to my mother rudely stated, “I wasn’t here-the night nurse should have called you”. After multiple emails and voicemails, and a call to the hospital liaison & regional director, I finally received a call back from the head nurse who apologized for the lack of communication but then quickly asked, “So should I have a nurse pack up your mothers things or will you be coming in? When I arrived to do so, I found my mother’s soiled clothing with brand-new clothing tied up in a bag as well as all her personal items including her toothbrush! They had been in the bag with urine soaked clothing. After washing 4 times, I tossed all the clothing- some of which still had the tags and most of the personal items. When I demanded to speak to the head nurse, I was greeted 45 minutes later by the facility administrator. While waiting, I witnessed several call lights blinking for at least 10 minutes. Those are lit when a resident is on the toilet and needs assistance. I also overheard a resident yelling about how he did not receive dinner the night before and his breakfast was food he could not eat. (I assume another dietary issue) While waiting I also noticed documents on the counter laying out in the open. Without even touching, or leaning over I could see that it was a patient list, with full names, ages and room numbers, and medications. My mother also had some personal medical supplies that allow her to speak that were missing. Upon inspection of the room again, the admin noticed staff left my mother’s dentures behind. It was not until I threatened to file a police report over the missing medical supplies that they produced them with a clear insincere apology. This facility is just a horrible place to place a loved one.

I had fusion surgery in 2014 ,at palos.A two day stay turned into six days and then kicked out to Alden in Orland park.I was there a total of 5 hours. Now I’ve been there visiting before, and thought it was a nice place. Well when the night shift comes on it’s a completely different place. I was put in a room with a catheter. Later I needed to use the bathroom. My room mate was in there forever. I was told I’m. Ot allowed to leave my room,I really had to go.So I start to leave the room searching for a bathroom and at that point two young females saw me started interrogating me.All I wanted was a bathroom. They started taunting me and asking what I have.they started going through my things ( I didn’t bring my phone for fear it would get stollen. Then one of them shoved me on my shoulder. I said who do you think you are? They were laughing. I kept trying to call. Home from the phone by my bed. Well it took a very long time because I find out later they turn off all phones at 8pm. Finally I got through .I was demanding someone call my husband . They were laughing and saying he’s not going to come ,no one ever comes.then they took my catheter bent it in half and stuck it in the spokes of the wheel chair. Then my husband walks in. He took me home and said he had a feeling I’d be coming home because he saw something, but to this day wouldn’t tell me.When I was able I went to make a report at Orland police station. They basically took some notes and that was it.They did nothing no investigation. The man that live across the street from me has a law suit against them for causing his knee surgery to get infected and is in a wheel chair now. So I do t believe any are any good, night shift makes minimum wage and McDonald’s wouldn’t take them.thats my story

The physical and occupational therapy are good. Some nurses and cna are nice and compassionate while others you just hoped weren't on your hall when you saw them. The medical director is non existent. Dr.[name removed] I think. Hes my Gma doctor and doesn't do much. She got an infection since she got there and he treats it like a joke ..They don't keep the doctors, surgeons updated on anything. The call buttons are pretty much useless. An hour could go by and they won't come to the room. God forbid there's an emergency cuz hitting that call button ain't gonna help. You'll end up dieing in bed

Therapy is wonderful - the rest...run away. Do not put your loved ones here unless you can be with them ALOT. The care is awful. Food is just adequate. I’m pretty sure even convicts get showers once a day, not at Alden. Twice a week and that’s if you are lucky. Call lights are never answered, alarms go off unchecked, TVs, beds, wheelchairs are a joke. Go somewhere else. The only reason i rated them one star is there was nothing else lower.

The first thing I noticed when I entered the building was the overpowering smell of urine. The odor got worse when I stepped off the elevator at the 2nd floor. 3 patients per very small room was the next surprise. (Patients can literally reach out and hold hands.) The only bright spot was LPN Lee, who was very kind and friendly.

My mom was admitted here a month ago after her knee surgery. She was in there for 2 weeks and they were truly the worst 2 weeks of her life. First she was given antibiotics without consulting a doctor because they THOUGHT she had an infection. Those meds gave her an allergic reaction and instead of stopping them right there the nurse [Removed] kept giving them to her for another couple of days. She couldn't walk so she would usually need someones help to go to the bathroom, but they would not show up for at least an hour and would be really rude. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I would not recommend this to ANYONE!

The lack of care given on "memory care unit" was incomprehensible!! The FACT is wasn't even under the guidelines of "memory care" was big problem. Multiple attempts within ten days to have actual CARE provided to my mother drastically failed. Lip service is not care, and sadly, the Only thing we received. If in need of a skilled facility for loved one with any dementia issues, I strongly recommend staying away. I'm on FB, would be able to provide very disturbing photo's of LACK of care my poor mother received. [removed] That's very sad. I wouldn't allow most of the staff I encountered to watch a stuffed animal. Keep in consideration all patients at time of my moms stay were in wheelchairs-I'm still trying to figure out where many Brand New items purchased for her went when I removed her as they were gone. Her room was always closed, yet multiple items were missing. Very sad experience. Please Don't fall for the facade of the appearance, your LO deserves Far more than appealing interior.

Don't let the flowers and cookies fool you! My mom went to Alden Poplar Creek after a knee replacement and the quality of care was very poor. The nursing staff was worthless. She was put in a room where her roommate kept the temperature at about 90 degrees and the curtains closed at all times. The women across the hall screamed all night "Get me out of here!"...then an aide would come in and verbally abuse the old woman yelling. They woke her up in the middle of the night to change her bandage when it could have been done during the day. They promised her a shower and never gave her one till the night before I pulled her out of there. If your loved one has to use the bathroom they can wait 15 minutes....the administrator told me this is "state law". No one thought to ice and elevate her knee until we asked for ice...again the nursing staff did nothing. In closing the facility looks nice when you tour, but when you are admitted you can count on being ignored and no one caring!

I would give them a zero! My mother was there for rehab and we were going to keep her there but we discovered that is was not a good place. It wasn't very clean, they were stealing all her clothes and would ignore her. There were people in the hallways screaming. It wasn't very pleasant. The first floor was very nice but the second floor on up - the higher you get the worse it gets.
