Review for Symphony Pointe

I would have initially rated the experience a three, but now I would say it's closer to a four or five. The move-in process was a bit challenging, as there were some room-related adjustments that caused confusion and made the transition harder than expected. There were also a few early coordination issues that took some time to resolve. However, since getting settled, things have improved significantly. She is now very comfortable and genuinely enjoying her experience. She especially likes her room, the food, and the caregivers.

Wonderful meals, clean environment

Facility was kept very clean. Food was outstanding. If nurse that worked in 2025 has left, I would recommend. If she is still there, I would never recommend. She never even bothered to come to my mother's room when she was having a stroke nor internally bleeding and manager was aware of the situation.

CountryHouse at Elkhorn

Unfortunately, staff play such a dominant role in a facility like this, and they truly can make or break the experience. While a few staff members were excellent, many were not. [name removed](the manager), [name removed](the receptionist), [name removed](the maintenance manager), and [name removed](the activities director) were phenomenal-compassionate people clearly doing their best under challenging circumstances. Sadly, the kitchen manager was awful, and many caregivers spent more time socializing with each other than attending to residents. I witnessed caregivers whose idea of "shower assistance" was placing a resident in the shower and then spending the entire time on their phone. Facilities like this are so important for people facing difficult diagnoses such as dementia and Alzheimer's. These individuals deserve respect, dignity, and attentive care. While I understand how difficult it can be to find good employees, it's critical that people truly understand the responsibility they're taking on when applying for these roles-it's more than just "a job." At a glance, the facility is beautiful and has real potential. However, having visited multiple times a week over an extended period, I likely saw more than most. Laundry frequently went missing, dining room tables and floors were often unclean, the food quality was very poor, and I personally witnessed the kitchen manager disrespecting residents on more than one occasion.

Beautiful grounds. But lacking in care

The tour was great. The facility/grounds are well cared for. It presents as very nice when you're touring and when you're initially meeting with staff I'd say it gives a good first impression Most of the caregivers were nice. Some of them were too rushed, hurried and didn't seem to have enough time to do their job. The food was overcooked half the time it was dry looking not exactly high grade. For instance very fatty bacon lots fat. Tasteless food. We rented an entire apartment both rooms and the bathroom. It was spacious enough to meet our needs but very expensive. The administrative staff didn't seem to really care about are concerns. With the exception of the executive Director, [name removed] . She was honest. All in all there are not enough caregivers at Sunol Creek.

needs improvement all around

Dad and I had a rough first 4 weeks where almost nothing was done as promised (housekeeping, showers, linen and washing clothes). Like other new residents dad did not get the welcome they did...signage in the lobby and at apt. There was no communication between management, me and responsible care staff. Very difficult to communicate with the admin team. Message repeatedly to never get a response...frustrating. Also, errors on the bill and no easy path to correcting this. This sounds very negative and honestly it was initially. Things have improved as far as responsiveness and doing the tasks that are contracted. The excuses were numerous and yet ownership of the problems was not forthcoming. I can hope things continue to improve and it seems they will. It's hard to comprehend what it'll be like if we have to move dad.

High staff turnover and pay close attention to billing

When our mom was there the staff turnover was terrible! She was in there for memory care and that certainly did not help. Also the billing is a real issue every month they were changing prices and it was hard to get answers because billing was done off campus so they could only go by what they were told. Also they re evaluate her care level every 3 months . So the last 2 times it went up so much I requested to review it with them . Both times it went down after our review. The second time they were going to increase it by [fee removed] a month after we talked it actually went down. The reason was explained that the evaluations are done off campus by people who just read the care taker notes. From March to December her care would have gone up over [fee removed] a month. Those evaluations need to be done with staff and family ! Most people are on a budget and those were some big increases. Also even after she was bed ridden they were saying she needed help to the dining area , and to the bathroom, and for all outings and they said that she was attending morning meet and greets and other events when she never even got out of bed. Please feel free to call with any questions you might have. I really did enjoy the hands on staff , they were always very good with her. But trying to get a hold of upper office staff was ridiculous.

Not worth the money they charged

Started out as a nice place but they lost my wife’s cellphone the second day. They still have not found it, in a lock down area. I think it was an employee but they were still saying it was another patient. My wife lost clothes and bedding, the day before she was to leave someone removed her transport chair from her room. They had to look for it. The food was not the best and had no selection. (Eat what you get). Certainly not worth the $[removed] a month that they charge. More but it would take more than the 1000 characters.

Review for The Terraces at Via Verde

What does "experience so far" mean? I moved my husband out of The Terraces in May. Thus, ending "the experience". After 6 weeks of observation, I concluded, that my husband was constantly depressed. My husband is a "level one" which translates to, he can do self-care without assistance from staff. The new director always made sure he stopped and said "hello". He would always say, "how are you doing today 'young man'? My husband is 81, he knows he's not a young man. The daily greeting like that seems like a constant stream of bs. The director would also say, "I've got a job for you , [name removed]" but he never said what the job was. My husband has memory issues, but he is not suffering from any mental [profanity removed]. The director, according to my husband, seems more like a desperate used car salesman, eager to make the sale. My husband's assessment of that person is that he is so artificial. My husband was in law-enforcement for nearly forty years. He's been a pretty good judge of character, sometimes his life depended on it. The disingenuous "meet & greet" everyday was, of course, ridiculous. Most of us can sift through encounters with ppl who seem less than "straight-forward", so you probably know exactly what I am describing. The Terraces has dark wood every where, the rooms are dark, without much daylight. My husband was bored and depressed. The food was nothing spectacular, dinner often consists of a half of a sandwich and a handful of potato chips. For $[removed]per month? The Terraces is not a $[removed] per year operation, definitely. Staff is friendly and helpful, but in numbers that didn't seem adequate. Too many quit while we were there for the six+weeks. In that short amount of time, I paid about "$[removed]" (too much). I moved my husband to [removed], and from day one, it has been a positive experience. The amount of light, the bright colors, the happy staff, everything is in the positive column here. The gardens here are lovely and interesting. Plenty of daylight and happy colors. I wish I had brought him to the [removed] first. I would have saved a lot of money, he'd have gotten better care, consistently, and generally a less stressful experience, if I had only discovered the [removed] FIRST!

I realize all assisted living facilities charge a lot, but in no way is the cost substantiated by the services received. Food options were poor and contained very little nutrition, akin to middle school lunches. Mom barely ate while there. Trash was supposed to be collected every evening but often wasn't picked up for days. Staff was very nice, but turnover was incredibly high which made it hard on everyone.
