Cannot Recommend

We recently moved my mother from The Pavilion. On the day we moved her out, we discovered 3 pair of her pants (new within the past 8 months) were missing. The director for the Pavilion said they would look, then told me they would reimburse (I have the receipts.), then told me since Mom no longer had an account they would figure out how to reimburse, and then I was told they could not reimburse because the receipts were from 2022. During the 17 months my mother was in Valeo (Memory Care), they went through 4 directors and were understaffed the entire time at their own admission. Their circumstances should never be an excuse for poor care, poor maintenance (leaking HVAC unit in more than one room) and poor resident support. I would never recommend The Pavilion under this current ownership and leadership. We are glad that we have learned there are better alternatives and fortunately have found a facility that is well managed, has caring staff, and low turnover.

The woman who I worked with was fabulous, out of the many places I toured she was the best out of them all by far. Unfortunately, I went for a second tour and was not impressed. The décor was old, the dining facility felt cramped, and the room sizes were extremely small with no kitchenette.

Went downhill

I put my mom in Poet's Walk right before COVID and took her out in August of 2022. The place really looked good when we initially put mom in the facility. They had entertainment two times a week and it appeared as though it was a nice large facility that mom could have the room to move around. Once we were allowed back in the facility after COVID, I became aware that they were not taking care of my mom. The Staff lacked the experience, often did not put mom's dentures in her mouth, sometimes it looked like they were not bathing her because of her greasy hair, did not often dress her appropriately for the weather, and they allowed moms drinks to run down her top as she was having a harder time eating. When I took my mom out of this facility, it took over 45 work days to get my money returned. Corporate also would not return my phone calls when I was trying to get my money back. There was a huge turnover of employees and the facility got rid of key people.

Our families experience

After two weeks of our loved one being admitted to Beach House I started the process to get her out. That being said-my sister was assessed by Beach House personnel as to whether she would be a good fit for their facility. Her apartment seemed cleaned. Although one week-end there was no trash service so I had to take the dirty diapers out myself. I got the impression they were short on staff. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I approached them for some problem we were having. I think the Beach House would have been a better fit for an adult who didn't need as much assistance as my sister did. The problems we faced were: my sister didn't not receive an alarm pendant to alert the staff until a few weeks before she was leaving. She had to call the front desk to get assistance. There were times her meds were not given as prescribed. She has COPD and we almost had an emergency situation because of that. I would like to complement the mobile medical staff that treats the patients there. They were always easy to access with issues and gave the family feedback on what actions were taken. My sister would not leave her room to eat in the dining area so her choices of food were limited. Again, my sister needed more assistance in this area than Beach House could provide. My sister never participated in any activities. The director did have the activities person pay a visit to my sister after I requested some motivation to get my sister out of the room. They colored a bit. My sister NEVER left her room in the 6 weeks she resided there. The value of ANY assisted living is OUTRAGEOUS. It is ridiculous to pay 5 times a mortgage payment and not have a personal staff member by your side 24/7. The Beach House charges in line with other assisted living facilities. My sister had no family to watch over her care so she was moved to SC. Even here I feel as if I work at this facility as they seem short staffed and I have to question medications, meals , ect. We looked into private home care which is DOUBLE the price. In our situation there would have been no oversight with family living out of state. Bottom line is-people need to be an advocate for their family members in these situations. Especially because of the money being spent. After the private funds are depleted then the govt starts paying for it.

Yucky, do not go here

I would want others to know that my mother was here for 2 months before we pulled her out. She was not getting her medications properly no matter how many times we spoke to them about it. The dosages and timing were always wrong or they just did not give it to her. The food was not good at all, they served the same things all the time so my mom was not eating and we had to bring her food. They were all processed meals and very poor quality. We also learned after she got here that they only make a meal once a day for lunch, and then dinner everyone is brought a sandwich to their room. It is a pretty facility that is very clean, but unless you can take care of yourself, I would not recommend.

Husband there 4 months and 5 days.

Totally unsatisfied with the staff at Serenades. The sales person stressed the beautiful facility, but underplayed the staff. Not enough persons to take proper care of residents.I was told one thing by one person and another thing by a second person. Never got the full truth. The nurse shortened the hours of the aide I hired by two hours. My husband fell one hour after the aide left. I never had a valid explanation of how he fell and broke his hip. He had hospice service there, but when He was released from the hospital, Serenades refused to take him back even though my monthly rent was paid. I am still trying to get my refund.

Disappointed Loved One - Family/Friend

Poorly Ran By Management

Main concern is safety of our loved ones. Staff does not enforce signout of residence. Often when visiting my relative was not there and was not signed out. Staff could not explain were the resident was. Did not seem to have any sense of urgency to find them. Director plays favoritism with residence who she is friends with family members. Would not trust my loved ones at this facility. Management talks about residence and their family in front of other residence and family. Poorly ran facility. Needs better management.

I previously toured this community but I am going to give it another try. When we went to tour this facility, I think they had a resident manning the front desk. She couldn’t find the room keys or even remember what was going on. I just felt like she was incapable of running the desk. The fire alarm actually went off while we were touring and she didn’t know what was going on. She just seemed totally vacant and unaware of what to do when someone comes in. It was a nice and clean facility but it just looked empty. I will tour this community again when someone else is at the desk.

Keep looking - don't choose this place.

First off, the facilitiy has no follow through on their promises. Despite promising transportation to and from doctors, they now refuse to provide this service. Food is terrible if you have any dietary restrictions. They have refused to accomodate diabetic needs. Facility is constantly understaffed. Acitiy staff is extremely rude, untrained and unqualified,

Family of Irving Steinik - Rm 3111

Sonata Boynton Beach leaves a lot to be desired. The menu choices are repeated from one day to the next. A choice of soup or salad should be offered on the lunch and dinner menu. Social interaction and activities are sparse. Lunch is served at Noon and most resident's leave the dining room at about 1PM. There should be some entertainment following lunch. At 3pm a lot of senior's are napping. The hall carpeting in building #3 needs cleaning, disgusting. The linen napkins usually have stains on them, not very appealing. I think the napkins need to be replaced. At lease two nurses should be available 24/7 at the facility. The facility is quite short staffed. For peace of mind we have two private HHC aides for 12 hour shifts each. 24/7 I do not feel confident that a staff member would tend to my dad fast enough, even with the pendant that we pay for. I have heard a resident's pendant alarm calling for attendance and no one seems to be rushing to their aid.

I would not recommend this community!!

They did not take care of my husband when he stayed there. We had numerous meetings with the manager to try and resolve our issues, unfortunately nothing changed. They did not keep the community or his room clean. The food was cold when he received it.

Concerned about the lack of organization!!

Since my loved one has moved into this community I have been very disappointed with how the staff has handled his medication. I am concerned about the lack of organization and the failure to distribute medicine at the right timing. Overall this place needs a lot of improvement and direction.
