Review of Homewood Residence at Delray Beach Alzheimer's / Memory Care in Delray Beach, FL

Nice how rooms are surrounding dining area. Which would be perfect if grounds were nicer and rooms more updated as it was pricey. Pavers on patio were uneven and run down. I see a trip hazard. It was like a ghost town. I believe they cater to their people. :) I just wish it was more inviting for the money. They are privately owned and expect family to take care of payments if VA or Medicaid becomes an issue. They do not assist in that area.

Went downhill fast, gave the wrong medications

mom was so glad to get out of here, it was not real successful. They gave her the wrong medications a couple of times and then they lied to me about it. We had real trust issues to the point where I moved her. She was very uncomfortable there and she was afraid. She was very alert and when she told them that it was the wrong medication they argued with her until they realized that she was right. When I went and talked to them about it they lied to me. By and large we decided it would be best to move, if she was not as alert as she is she would have taken the medication and my concern is for all the poor little people that just take what is given to them. it seemed very nice and when she first moved in we were very pleased but things went downhill pretty quickly.

Great looking community Not so great care

The community was a very nice community. It is clean and very well maintained. Each building only has like 10-15 residents in it and each building has its own dining area so it makes dining more personal. They had really nice grounds and nice gardens to sit outside. The community itself was actually really nice the issues are with the care services they provide. They identify themselves as an Alzheimer’s/Memory care unit but when they actually have to deal with a dementia patient seems like they do not put too much effort into taking care of the situation. They seem to just call for outside services to handle it that then you will have to pay for. They will either call emergency services or bring in a nurse to care for your loved one. It seems like the staff is just inexperienced with dealing with these issues.

The residents deserve so much more

One of my parents has been in PW since last Spring. It started out good, but now I'm really concerned that they have too many residents for the amount of direct care staff (CNA, MA,LVN, RN). Pros: 1. They have some really good, compassionate care givers and LVNs 2. They have some sweet ladies that do activities with them. I have NO idea what the director of activities does--she is rarely with the residents, just her staff interacts with the residents. 3. Its all hands on deck when meals are served 4. Nice variety of foods and its prepared well--I do think they should ask the resident what they'd like to eat though. Cons: 1. Top-heavy (I see 9 administrators and their booklet states this) Not too sure what the administrative staff does. It would be nice if there were fewer administrators and more direct care givers. On 1/22/19 there were 42 residents and during the day and evening there were 4 "care partners" + 1 med aide and 1 wellness nurse, overnight there were 3 "care partners" + 1 wellness nurse. What this means is at bed time there is 1 care partner for every 10 residents to help get them ready for bed. Most times you wait for help. 2. They have a bus, but it is rarely used to take the residents on outings. I know of 2 outings my family member attended, now they've stopped the outings. 3. In the evenings you'll find several residents (one night I counted 9) in the common areas without ANY supervision. 4. Upon putting a camera in the room, we discovered showers were only 1 time a week and transfers were sometimes with only 1 caregiver. The RN writes the care plan based on the level of care needed. In our case, my family member's care plan stated: 3 showers a week, 2 person transfer, etc. We pay for "extended care" costing an extra $700/month. Funny, now we have the help of Hospice Austin (great group) and they provide almost 6 additional hours of care/week (2 caregivers to shower 3x/wk, RN, SW/pastoral care every 2 weeks. I asked if the extended care charge would be reduced and PW said "No". 5. No simple hygiene. Finally, they are now wiping the residents hands before meals. 6. No oral care. Sometimes all the resident needs is their toothbrush prepared, handed to them, and cued. 7. At meals some of the men could use second helpings or at least offered. Their portions are getting smaller. I would say if you put a loved one in ANY community, stay on top of their care and put a camera in their room. You can complain to the management and corporate, but nothing really changes. I hope people read the reviews and the reviews encourage management to make improvements. PW has some really good direct caregivers and some LVNs and Med aides. They need to be compensated well and more need to be hired.

Disappointment

Positives first: The building is nice looking and is kept clean. There are some friendly people working here. Negatives: Unfortunately there are not enough people to accommodate the residents. It seems the nursing staff is the most short - and their patience has worn thin and attitudes are sometimes rotten. Care is slipping and there are unaddressed maintenance and cleanliness issues in the residents' rooms. Unless you are visiting your loved one super often and watch them and get after them, things are not getting done. One time in the dining room, I watched the staff bring out one solitary hamburger at a time to the residents who had already been sitting and waiting for more than an hour for their dinner. A woman started yelling because it was taking too long and I think everyone else felt like that too. It's not what is advertised. They need to shape up.

Horrible Care for the Elderly

The place is beautiful, but my father did not eat or was not fed for three (3) days Because he eould not go to the cafeteria ut he was too weak to walk or roll himself I feel somepne was very wrong. When I pulled him out I was threatened, then, I received a bill for medication for over $600. I was not given nor was the ambulance service that picked him up given any of his medications. The medicatoons were for 90 days. He went to Altus hospice and shortly afterwards he passed away. I would not want anyone to ever experience what I experienced. I pray that some common sense iniatives happen sooner than later. .

Family's experience - would not recommend

Assisted Living Facility Feedback Response Thank you for requesting feedback. I feel compelled to share our experience as it involves serious care concerns that need immediate attention. Overall Experience (Rating: 1/10) Our family has been deeply disappointed with the level of care provided. The combination of unresponsive staff, poor organization, and inadequate attention to residents' medical needs has created an unsafe environment for my mother and other residents. Quality of Care (Rating: 1/10) This is our most serious concern. My mother was recently transported to the hospital for severe anemia requiring a blood transfusion. The staff failed to recognize or adequately respond to her declining health condition. Call buttons go unanswered for 30+ minutes, leaving residents in distress and potentially dangerous situations. The staff appears undertrained and lacks the clinical skills necessary for proper resident care. Administrative Staff (Rating: 1/10) The facility director consistently makes excuses rather than taking responsibility for systemic problems. Instead of addressing legitimate concerns about care quality, the administrative response has been dismissive and defensive. This leadership approach prevents meaningful improvements to resident care. Cleanliness (Rating: 3/10) My mother's living space is consistently dirty despite paying for cleaning services. The housekeeping staff does not perform thorough cleaning, leaving surfaces dusty and bathrooms unsanitary. This creates health risks, particularly for elderly residents with compromised immune systems. Dining Experience (Rating: 1/10) The dining situation is unacceptable. Residents are required to sit in the dining room for up to one hour before food is served, which is particularly difficult for those with mobility issues or dementia. The food quality is poor, and the extended waiting times suggest serious organizational problems in the kitchen and meal service. Friendliness (Rating: 4/10) While some individual staff members show kindness, the overall atmosphere is one of rushed, stressed employees who cannot provide the personal attention residents deserve. Value for Money (Rating: 3/10) Given the high cost of assisted living and the poor quality of care received, this facility does not provide reasonable value. I didn't feel like my father was in a safe place. He had several accidents that required emergency room visits. The last incident there was an issue with the facility director lying to us.

Changes are a must

The aids are loud and rude. They could improve by having weekly meetings on adherence and properly solving complaints that they have.

Monarch at Cedar Park Review

This place is the absolute worst. They actually had some good employees and they fired them. Some of the people there were wonderful, but they are managed by [facility removed] and they only care about the bottom dollar. On many occasions they did not give my father his medication. They did not shower him as often as they said they would. His skin was always in horrible shape. My mother and I were there every other day, sometimes more and I think that's the only reason he got the level of care that he did. They never shaved him. They were understaffed all the time. They don't pour the water to them, so that was the start of my father's decline. When I confronted the asst manager about seeing my father's medical records after his death...it miraculously took 2 hours for him to produce that. We were told by a woman we trusted that the man was in the back editing it to show he had been given all his meds. The first huge red flag was they didn't give [name removed] his meds the first night there and my mother and I sat in the lobby for an hour trying to get someone to help us get dad his medication. Please don't go to this place or any [facility removed] , they don't care about your loved one, only the bottom dollar. You will constantly have staff turnover and never any answers! Oh, and the literal nail in my father's coffin... they didn't call me when they sent him out (his final ride on EMS) to the ER. A nurse that loves Dad texted me asking how he was and I said "I don't know, you're with him". She said "no they took him out last night". I asked where and THEY HAD NO RECORD OF WHICH HOSPITAL!!! So, my father with dementia was brought in with no medical records, no nothing and had been sitting not able to breath and on a CPAP for 8 hrs alone when I was only 30 minutes away! I got there as soon as l found out. We spent the next 30 hours at his beside with him as he died from pneumonia, sepsis, and a heart attack. And we never heard from the director of the facility so much as an "I'm sorry for your loss". We were told we would get our refund in 45 days... it was 4 months later. Awful humans. They never wanted to visit about this, but when I put all this on yelp they reached out from HQ within 10 minutes.

Would not recommend.

My mom passed away a year ago. The overall experience At Serenades was awful. Mostly due to under staffing issues and under trained staff. End of life or near end of life care was abysmal. My main regret for my mom's last days is Serenades.

Things to know before moving a loved one in here

Unfortunately our experience there was not a great one. We were paying for the highest level of care and dad still had to wait an unacceptable amount of time when he buzzed for help. One person blamed it on the next person and we were never able to get it resolved. He finally fell and broke a hip because he couldn't wait any longer for bathroom help and he passed shortly after that. He was left alone in his room many times when i specifically told the staff to bring him to the events and get him out of his room. The food was mediocre.

Not recommended

I would not and will not recommend Fox Ridge to others. What we were told in the assessment meeting, is not the same in actuality. They are sometimes very slow to answer the call button that residents get, if at all. They have a resident check out & check in process, yet apparently there is no process to make sure all pertinent staff are aware of which residents are out & which residents are back in the building. The housekeeping of resident's rooms is very lacking. The food is okay most of the time, but sometimes it is cold or dry. You can ask 2 different nurses the same question and yet you'll get 2 different answers. They are very short staffed. When nurses are passing out meds, there's no one in the nurses station to answer calls!

Horrible experience and would never recommend

Poet’s Walk is there for money, they don't care about the residents care. My mom had a terrible experience with this facility and I have to move her to another facility for better care. Mom fell in this facility in her room and they never realize mom fell for almost three hours. When they were suppose to make rounds hourly. She was left wet with urine all the time. The nurse director is always clueless. I would never ever recommend this facility to friends or family
