I really enjoyed my tour and the experience my mother and I had during my visit. The staff where very welcoming and made sure to take there time with us and answer any questions we had for them in detail. This facility was just more of an assisted living and more care then my mother really had needed.

My mom was staying there for a respite. We found that she was a little much for the staff. They did their best to keep her happy and comfortable. Because she needed more help, she was not always fed her meals but there were other accommodations.

We toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. Overall I just wasn't that impressed with what I saw here. Nothing stood out as being bad, but I just didn't get the same positive vibes that I got at some of the other communities we toured. In addition, they were one of the more expensive communities we looked at.

The facility seems to be a good place and I had decided that I wanted my loved one to live there. Unfortunately, she went into congestive heart failure, so it is no longer an option for her to be a resident. The facility still processed my check and I have yet to get my money back. I don't think this is a bad place, but I am not happy with the way they handled the financial part of this.

What I like about the place is that the environment overall is pretty good. I dislike that the doctors on staff overmedicated my mother, so she is no longer there. When she went in, she could walk and feed herself, and now she can no longer walk and feed herself. Since we moved her, she is doing better. Also, the day we moved her in, a resident with dementia was able to get out the window and walk off. Neighbors across the street called her a cab, which took her to another town miles away.

I toured this place amongst 7 other places. I really liked the high energy atmosphere and the social interaction. They have an ice cream area where residents can get ice cream at almost any time. The staff was great. They knew the names and spoke to each resident. They seemed to be very patient and good with the residents. The cost was the highest of all the places I looked at ($175/day). They did not accept my father because he was an exit seeker and they were afraid he would be trying to exit out the emergency door. I was taken aback by this because I had explained with great detail the situation with my Dad. This is the very reason he needed memory care instead of assisted living. I'm not sure they should be called memory care if they are not equipped nor can handle these type of things. After all isn't that what memory care is for???

Overall a nice place

My loved one stayed here for a brief time, and except for one specific problem they were a nice place overall. The facility was clean, the staff were friendly, and the services they provided all seemed good. However, my loved one had some specific dietary requests and they were not willing to work with her on those, and we had to find somewhere more accommodating in that aspect.

Very nice setting; within a nice community; able to walk the neighborhood without fear. Presentation - entrance - very inviting; front doors needs some sprucing up Interior - in desperate need of rehab. Wallpaper peeling from walls at almost every seam. Facility built in 2000 but doesn't look like owners have taken an active participation in the upkeep. Staff - Ivy Sharpe - pleasant and appears to have the best interest of the residents at heart. Food - did not have the pleasure of partaking of a meal but Ivey states the residents do not have any complaints. This would be an option but not my first choice.

We had a very positive experience at Heritage Oaks. Paige Carpenter (Director) sat down with us prior to the physical tour and got to know us. Not only did she answer all of our questions, she pointed out some very important issues for us to consider regarding this important life event for our friend. We like all of the floor plans. We had an opportunity to meet one resident on our way out. She expressed positive comments to us about her apartment and the other residents.

The minute we walked in mom wanted to leave. Our first impression was all of the residents were sitiing on couches and chairs at the front door and they really looked like they were in poor health. It is an old school house and looked like it has been around for quite a while. I was looking for more up to date facilities.

Initially we had a lot of problems getting her in there with the paperwork.

Initially we had a lot of problems getting her in there with the paperwork. Then we've had a lot of problems with heat in her room sometimes it's not working, though I am told it is being fixed now. The food is excellent. Certainly the administrative part could use some improvement. They progressive disclosure everytime I turned around it's something else to be done. They do have a lot of dementia patients and especially in the dining room that can complicate things. They could maybe have some separated dining.

Something Needs to Change

For the most part it's a 5 but some things that I am seeing we don't like. We are having a problem with the value, seems like they are just looking for a way to charge us more. We just have the sense like they are just trying to find things to charge us for. They seem to have plenty of activities for the residents but not sure if they get them to participate. We are not happy with them but don't really know why, it's just a feeling. Seems like we get calls that are urgent and we need to reply immediately but when we do reply or leave it message they do not reply very fast to us. The community is nice and all the basics, like food, are great. The people that people that provide the care are fine but seems like the problem is in the administration. We know if they are doing that to us then they are doing it to other, and the things they are doing need to change. Lisa is great but the care manager needs to be changed.

Not A Good Experience

It was like my dad was in school. They kept writing him up and I felt like they were just making things up so that I would move him. Eventually it got to the point where they said he couldn't stay there anymore because they thought he needed a different level of care. Where he is now, at Sunrise, he is so much better! The director told me that all the staff were intimidated by my dad and they just want to work with the litte, cute old ladies and that's not right. There are all kinds of residents and if you have to deal with the men, then you have to deal with the men!
