An Atmosphere that Lifts One's Spirit

We helped place our dear friend at The Regency House, with the hope that the peaceful, friendly, and attractive atmosphere of the place would help her to improve or recover from her physical and psychological issues which were being greatly exacerbated by her previous living arrangement. After only two weeks at the Regency, we believe our friend is well on her way to recovery already.

Your staff is excellent. They are a very caring group of people and have been very helpful in meeting my needs. I felt right at home every time upon my arrival. I also intermingled with some of the residents and found them to be very friendly. I think the cuisine is very delicious. I am looking to officially moving this Saturday-March 7, 2015.

Mom loves it there

Nice place. Clean and decorated nicely. Prices go up too often but sometimes they will work with you. Judy that works there is super nice. Staff works too hard. They serve meals and have to clean apartments too so the cleaning is not the greatest. But this isn't the staff's fault. The facility needs to hire more people. Meal times take too long. When you go down for lunch, you sit there for almost an hour waiting on your food which isn't good for the clients. But overall, it is a nice place. My Mom loves it there so these are the faults I see as her daughter.

Not Goldilocks; but After Three Tries, I'm IN!

My first visit to a Holiday Retirement Home was in Akron, where a nephew & niece that I was visiting in the summer of 2013 wanted me to move to live with or near them. Copley Place was very attractive, and I was delighted to learn of the Holiday Travel Program. However, Ohio's climate & weather do not appeal to me, so I declined to move there. Because I was now hooked on living in a Holiday Home, I next visited one in the mountains of North Carolina, but it was too far from family & friends. Then I visited Smoky Springs in Gainesville, GA, about midway between family & friends in Atlanta and friends in Clarkesville, which was my home. It suited me perfectly, so I moved here in December 2013 and am extremely satisfied with my decision. The staff and residents are great people, and the food is excellent!

A Real Blessing for my parents

My parents moved in a couple of days ago and everyone, residents, staff, etc were so friendly and helpful. The setting is very homey and there are several activities throughout the day. The three meals are very imaginative and nutritious. The day my parents moved in was a special birthday event for the folks with a March birthday, which my mother had. It was a Rock-n-Roll party at dinner with live music and birthday cake. What an amazing welcome for their first night there! The director contracts with a nearby home health agency to provide specialized additional services, an innovative idea to individualized needs. I am so thankful to A Place For Mom to help me to link my parents to this wonderful place!

Smoky Springs, a light, pleasant living home for our Aunt.

After reviewing several Independent living/assisted living facilities, we chose Smoky Springs in Gainesville for our aunt. The first impression was an open, cheerful, living space. The dining room is open to the second story with tables for four and restaurant style service. The hall ways are open to the atrium giving that light spacious look, with many small sitting and game areas. Her room is very nice with lots of closet space. And she has a nice balcony with room for two chairs and a table. Smokey Springs serves three meals a day, with snacks and tea and coffee available at all times. The residents we have spoken with are happy, with the only complaint we heard that it takes too long to serve lunch and supper. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility. Call me I'll be glad to talk with you.

Mario and Paul were very helpful and understanding in dealing with my demanding Mother, and I think Smoky Springs is a cheerful and well-managed facility. Mom does not require care at present and she does not take part in activities so I can't rate them fairly but it seems that other residents value them highly. I know that care is available on [removed] I see the caregivers making their rounds each time I visit. Insofar as I know at this time, the single elevator is the greatest drawback. It would be possible to install a second elevator adjacent to the existing shaft, but it would be expensive, disruptive and would decrease capacity by two apartments, so I doubt that will ever happen.

So Active! We Love It!

It has made a huge difference in my mom, just in the last couple of months. She in in independent living, but she gets two meals a day, transportation, and her apartment cleaned twice a month included in the cost. They have a lot of parties to celebrate; they had Oktoberfest, and they celebrated for Halloween. They have a pontoon, so they take them out on Boca Ciega Bay. They take them out to eat, they took them to tour one of the navy ships in the Tampa Bay Harbor, and they toured a couple of mansions on the market in the area. The Fountains blew out all preconceived notions of what these places would be like. The residents are all happy and busy and moving around. It's very, very active. They even have a 25 seat movie theater! They have a gym and physical therapy that will come there to work with people, so you can stay in the same facility no matter what your care needs are. Everyone has been wonderful there, my mother has really embraced it. She lived by herself in Iowa, but now she has made a lot of friends. When residents first move in, they assign a peer mentor to help the new resident get the hang of it there.

First choice, but too far away

I really liked the Fairmont best, but I didn't like the location. It was too far for my family in Reston. They had a one bedroom apartment that was bigger than the two bedroom in Sommerset and it would have been easier to arrange my furniture. I was particularly struck by the lightness, there were big, large windows in the apartment, the hallways were light as were the common areas. They had a full meal plan which might have been too much for me because I'm on a restricted diet and it was the same price or less than Sommerset but I couldn't imagine getting in my car and driving to Reston everyday.

Reputation Precedes

We chose The Fountains because its location was convenient for my family to visit our loved one. They were also recommended by people we knew and when we asked about The Fountains only heard good things. Our loved one seems to be adjusting very well and is starting to look better. Her appearance looks healthier and fuller of life then she previously was. We had looked into 7 other communities, but we chose them and feel it was the right decision. Lighthouse Pointe ( May 1, 2013)

From management, culinary, activity, and maintenance staff, all are 5 star. The building is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and a joy to enter. The meals are superb, the staff could not be more helpful or welcoming. I specifically want to thank the managers for making my mother's move to Lighthouse Pointe such a smooth transition. Community from the front door to the offices throughout each hall and apartment

A great community of welcoming people. Everyone was the new kid at some point. Each person whether resident or family member can experience that by a smile at a meal in the dining room, walking down the hall, or attending an activity. No pressure to join but even the staff are open encouragers not "just doing a job".

Wonderful people just need a bit more organization.

I'm 63 years old and still work full-time. I was the first "younger" person to move in. Since I arrived two months ago several more have moved in. Rivers Edge is very nice. The new owners took over in July of 2024 , I think, and invested a lot of money on refurbishing the entire place including the apartments. For a single working women like myself having all food, utilities and maintenance included in your monthly rent was just what I wanted. All of the staff have been professional and friendly. The other residents are amazing. They were so welcoming to me. I love talking to all of them on the weekend when I am around more. The management staff is working hard to put procedures in place to make everything runs smoothly. Oh and the food has been great (thanks Chef [name removed] and [name removed]). This is truly independent living, not assisted or memory care. If you want a nice, safe place in Savannah, GA I highly recommend Rivers Edge.

Review for The Barclay at Charlottesville

We have had very positive experiences with the staff, particularly since The Barclay took over from Anthology. The activities that are planned and the staff that run them are wonderful. My only complaint is that the elevators break down frequently, which is not only inconvenient but is a safety hazard.
