We have had a lot of issues with staff and follow through. Things are getting better but a lot has slipped through the cracks with the staff.

I think the staff is overworked, underpaid and some have heavy accents which is difficult for the residents to understand.

They have limited activities. They have had staffing issues, in which they can't find and keep good people. They offer limited services due to COVID-19, and they are charging more during COVID-19. Some of the staff, is great, warm and friendly, then some of the staff is always on their cellphones, and not paying attention to the residents. For the amount of money, that you're paying, it does not seem like you are getting enough. I would hope for, something better, for the amount of money that you're paying.

This community was just really expensive for my loved one and on top of that the food was horrible. We heard a lot of complaints about the food in this community from others also. Just because people are old does not mean that they do not want good food and will just eat whatever.

I felt the community was expensive. I was quoted a price and then they tried to change the price.

Our experience is based on the memory care section of the facility, we completely understand there is a staffing shortage in healthcare nationwide and we really are trying to being sensitive to that .However, we are experiencing some challenges like getting our monthly fees increased with no real clarification as to why. Some of the staff are wonderful, but at times the communication could be lacking with other staff members. The disease at times makes our loved one "difficult" and we just aren't sure if our loved one is getting the most adequate care. We are not knowledgeable in this area at all, but sometimes it seems like they just medicate the residents instead of working through the problem and coming up with a solution.

This is not really independent living there are a lot more people there that really do need assistance than what we were told in the beginning. The environment is a lot different. My loved one is not very happy here.

Beautiful grounds with a nice staff member for the tour. It wasn't as friendly as I was expecting it to be. There was a smell and they had outdated rooms.

Sunrise of Jackson is to expensive for everything that they provide. The overall quality of care needs improvement, anytime we asked questions we rarely got answers. Also other residents in the community had major complaints, not just our loved one.

Our family had an in person tour, and it seemed dirty to us right away. It is an older facility, but there was an old dog and cat walking around on our tour. I did not mind it but our loved one was not happy. We did like how the apartment had a small kitchenette for leftovers and small snacks. Also it was laid out very well, one side of hallway was the living room, and the other side of the hallway was the bedroom and bathroom so it resembled a small apartment.

The one manjor thing I don't like is that we have to call 30 minutes before we come. And I feel like that's so they can clean up if it isn't clean, or prepare somehow. I know it's Covid and everything, but I feel like it's so they can make sure he's cleaned up and ready for people. I don't know if that's the case, that's just how I feel. It leaves room for doubt. It's very difficult to visit. You have to get a Cogid test within three days of going. There's 5 of us in the family so we try to space it out so we can. I can't wait until eveyrthing hopens . He seems really happy there. seems to like the food. Everyone on staff seems great. My dad's being treated fine and they're doing the medical things he needs. Not doing very many activities due to Covid, and athe few they'r e doing he's not really interested in. Socializatin is lacking, but I assume that's the way it is everywhere. They do have him vaccinated though, which I appreciate.

During the two weeks are loved one was there before covid hit, the activities seemed to be really fun, however after the two weeks they were completely shut down. The community really sells you in the beginning about the services they would be providing, and how many people that would be working at a time during all shifts. We know it was hard with covid, but they just do not have enough workers, the staff to residents ratio was way off. They also share to much personal information in front of the residents, they need to keep it professional. The workers, if they are not clear English speaking workers, we feel should not be updating family members via the phone when there are issues going on with the residents.

Given the fees this community had, they should be providing slightly better service and care. Since March there hasn't been many activities but before COVID they had movie nights, exercises classes. They took trips to the grocery store and pharmacy as well as little outings. Our loved one hasn't had any complaints about the food. This community is quite nice, its clean and the furniture is perfectly fine and comfortable. Our loved ones room is nice and kept clean. The only issue we have with this community is they pay their staff nothing and so therefore they get very little out of it. the communication is so poor. The nursing capacity, is very sub par, however there are a couple staff members that are super and they do seem committed to the residents.

The nurses at this community were great, they really went above and beyond, but the general staff that would bath the residents or bring them food didn't really care, it seemed like they didn't want to be there at all. We were told it was good food, but we found out it was just average nothing special. The rooms are nice size, but are a little outdated.

My mother's room and bathroom sink area could have used some more cleaning, however the common areas were always kept up. When my family was there, the staff were all friendly, polite, and helpful. We had a slight concern over how attentive they were with our mother when we were not there. In general, they could have done more to assist her with her dressing and grooming and making sure her hygiene was kept up. She would tend to refuse help, which was definitely part of the self-care equation. During the time she was there, we would have appreciated more time with the supervisory staff to better strategize how to best give care to our mother. We knew others who had lived in Sunrise and had no issues, however, on the memory care side, it seemed like they could have used more training or knowledge on how to handle her memory care-related behaviors. For those who were not in need of memory care assistance, we think Sunrise would be a really good fit. Because of our mother's higher level of care that was needed, we felt certain things were not happening that should have happened.

The community has a great wrapped around porch, and a great cafe with popcorn and milkshake machine. But speaking with some of the elderly who live at this community as we were waiting for our tour. The cafe is just for show, the last time the milkshake machine worked was 3 years ago and they do get popcorn at movie times every night (Movie time every night). The apartments had a strange style, they had a half wall in the middle of the apartment. The Sales person said that was in case was to share an apartment, they have a half-wall to separate them. (Doesn't seem like much separation, The apartments went from really small (maybe a bed and nightstand fit in there, with barely any room for a walker to get around the both sides of the bed (twin bed). To a larger apartment (almost a one bedroom, but separated by the bathroom/kitchen area - no door technical). The base prices seemed good, but a lot of nickel and dime of additional cost. Depending on the amount of meds Mom takes, it could X amount for 1-5 a day, and XX for 5-9 a day and XXX for 10-15 a day. Community fee equal to one month's rent, including care... WHAT??!! Not a community for Mom

For people with mobility issues, this is the place to be. Safety is the Number One Priority, to the extreme. Very few residents are without mobility devices; walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, canes and even scooters, if you need one. Residents are not allowed to bring, buy, store or take their own medications. The Wellness Center has their own pharmacy and Medicine Technicians administer any drugs, even aspirin, cough syrup, or over-the-counter medications. The grounds are lovely, with paths, seating and locked fencing to keep everyone safe. Pets are many, mostly small dogs, except the one "House Dog" that is huge and ancient. Private rooms are spacious, with at least one very large window, a small kitchenette a good-sized private bathroom with shower, 2 closets and sound-proof walls. The staff speaking their native language among themselves keeps their clear English-speaking far from probable.

Office staff is amazing. Food services, though.... yikes! Lots of turnover, leaving residents with mostly sandwiches and poor quality food when there is a menu met. This issue lasted months. Hoping things resolve there quickly.

First thing when we had already moved [name removed] in, there was a major problem over the charges. They were much different than what we were told. The room rate was more than had been agreed upon because they had him in a more expensive room There were level of care charges we had not been aware of. The biggest thing was the fact that they were charging him for giving him his meds because he was not aware of 2 over the counter meds that [removed] had put him on the day before. He has ended up in the most expensive level of care they have which is one reason I am moving him. During this entire episode of trying to find out information I requested the people from Sunrise to leave the room so we could have a family counsel. (The Executive Director was the main problem in this.) I had to request a 2nd time. It seemed as if each day I went to see [name removed], there was another problem. The biggest problem for him was could not get the briefs ordered in his size. They never did. We furnished briefs for many days. They have given us credit on the bill for this. The food has been good, but not always what is on the menu. It does not appear that they have done a thorough cleaning of his bathroom since he has been there. We had to order a Harp for his bed because that is what they use. It was $500.00 and he would only sleep in it two nights because he could not turn over with that on the bed and his legs were aching. The biggest issue today is they will only give him a shower once a week because of the level of care his meds are.

Sunrise of Paramus was not the best match for my Mom as she is not in true need of assistance. For those in need of a lot of one to one care , this Sunrise could be a perfect fit! However, If your loved one is an independent senior in need of privacy, a vibrant and intellectually stimulating environment, this is not the place. Most residents spend their days sleeping or waiting for the next meal. There are events and activities for residents as they are able however the community Van never left the facility once over the two and a half months my mother was there. Mealtimes were also inconsistent experiences as plates were cleared at the table!! and the staff was often tired and impatient, in a rush to move residents out of the dining area. To be fair, the staff are required to carry their duties into mealtimes. Sunrise of Paramus isn't spacious so it is a challenge logistically for most of the activities offered in the Bistro area. For those looking for a Senior Residence, be sure to try the one month rested stay before making a final decision. As I said there are some residents at Sunrise of Paramus who love their experience and wouldn't go anywhere else. There are staff members who set the bar very high in expertise and care. Just be sure your loved one is at the stage where he or she needs a lot of attention.
