Toured in person. Wonderful place and people!

We liked the place as soon as we walked in. We visited frequently and the residents seemed quite content. Care services - This is the area that we had issues. Not sure that they were prepared for someone with advanced terminal cancer. Their PA ordered narcotic pain RX which was not done. Had many meetings with RN staff and as a result we think they established better protocols and established more oversight guidelines. The care provided by the aides was a 4-5.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a good tour experience and a close second choice. However for how expensive it was we were disappointed but what they called a studio apartment - it was significantly smaller, but we did think they did a good job with the tour.

The caregivers are very kind and compassionate - we've had no problem with the staff at all. I think they're understaffed, and I wish they had more people so they could respond quicker when there's a need. When I look around at the other areas - independent and assisted living, the residents seems very content, smiling, happy. That's not necessarily the case in the memory care unit, which is the nature of their circumstances having dementia and to be expected. I do give credit that they allowed our loved one without dementia to stay in the memory care unit with his wife who does have dementia, which is rare / an exception in the industry. The facility is clean overall in the common areas, although the residents' rooms could be cleaned more often. The food is not ideal. I would like to see them have more activities in memory care, and the type of music they play for seniors could be better. They currently play 70's music quite loudly.

We had a good tour experience with Sunrise of Gurnee. It was definitely more home-like. We did not think that rooms here were as nice as other places we visited. The kitchen set up was older and it was just not as luxurious. Other places felt more like an actual apartment. It was also more expensive.

Was a nice put together tour, staff and director were very friendly and answered all questions. In the end went with another option that fit our loved one's needs better.

Overall seemed to be a wonderful place, many nice looking facilities but in end went with one closer to family.

This was a better value for us, but they didn't have a large male resident population. In addition they didn't have a lot of activities geared towards men.

I really enjoy the people and the staff are all extremely friendly but the follow through and communication from them has not been the best and could use improvements. I constantly have questions and I have to ask for things to be done. Overall I think the facility is fine, I always see residents happy and participating in activities.

I showed up unannounced, and they were able to show me their memory care area. It was on the third floor for resident safety - so no one would wander out of the facility. But it seemed a little more isolated than other memory care set-ups we saw. The facility also felt more like a hotel, and we were looking for a more homey feeling. But the people there were really nice and friendly.

The maintenance team member isn't always willing to assist my loved one. My loved one would like to move as they are unhappy here due to the experience with the food and the value for the money isn't there. The residents are friendly and my loved one likes and enjoys the activities. We thought my loved one was getting assisted living and it turned out to be a retirement community instead.

I did not like this community as much as the other community that I was looking at. This community was also further away and did not want to travel that far to see my loved one.

The community prices are a la carte. I thought that somethings would be included if the rent of the room; however, everything from assistance to medication distribution costs. The service for meals is very slow, and it can be about an hour-and-a-half long meal. For example they serve everyone the soup, then the salad, then the meal, etc. Some of the activities include movies, exercise, games, and more for the residents to choose from. The coordinator is open to new activity suggestions from the residents.

My biggest issue is with the food due to them not fixing anything for diabetic dietary restrictions. If I eat anything then my sugar goes sky high. I have to fix my own food because of this. The community will sometime have sugar free or reduced sugar desserts and if on the menu they don't have it. The staff and residents are friendly here. The nurses and caregivers are fantastic. The community is good at keeping my medicine straight.

This community was more assisted living and I knew that my loved one was needing a higher level of care so these communities did not work. The community was okay I just did not fell like they could provide the needed care she was not independent enough.
