Sunrise Senior Living

My 91-year-old father and I dropped in at Stratford Court a few days before our scheduled tour. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were introduced to some of the residents and invited back for dinner after our scheduled tour. But we did take the tour the first day we dropped in. My father was lucky in that an apartment became available sooner than expected. He moved in without any problems and although he's only been there for two weeks, he is enjoying himself more than I've seen in years.

I would like to give them a 5 but my uncle is not happy with the food. He says it's never hot. It's always cold and the service in the dining room is really bad. If you send the food back then it comes back burnt. We went there for a barbeque not long ago and it was really good so my uncle is thinking why can't they cook like this all the time? For all the money they're paying you at least expect your food to be hot. The medical staff is fabulous and the nurses are fantastic. Other than the food, my uncle is very happy where he is. Of the 10 or 12 places we looked at this was the most comfortable and homey looking. It doesn't look like an institution.

We moved my mom there about a month and a half ago and it's been a rough transition for my mom. Sunrise has been really awesome in helping her with a really rough transition. I can't imaging that this kind of transition is easy for anyone but I can say that we're all - my two sisters and my brother and I - are all really impressed with Sunrise.

They took very good care of my father, they did a very good job. They had a lot more rooms, I found them to be more maintaining people as opposed to insirping and entertaining, he was always clean, the place was immaculate, but they kind of let them sleep in chairs, they didn't have a lot of entertainment for the people in memory care but they did downstairs. It was considered the primo in the county and in fact they took some of the lead staff over to the other places to get them into shape, I wasn't really impressed with the managers that took over so what we did as a family was bonded with the staff directly and gave them food and thanked them so they knew we appreciated what they did for him. We made it a point to, every occasion, every holiday, baked something or brought something so they recognized you appreciated what they did.

My mother is here and being in an assisted living is so much nicer than a memory care. She can walk around, they have TVs she can watch, there are sofas and it's much more comfortable there. It's nice, but a little on the expensive side. She's very busy, she's doing great, whatever they're doing it works.

Everything was fine with that. On the 22nd of July he had a fall and he's in a skilled nursing facility for rehab so it only lasted about three weeks but other than that everything was going well for him. Sunrise is a wonderful place.

Clean, friendly and helpful. They planned the level of care for my mom to include showers and cleaning. Very helpful and informative as it answered many questions going in. Quality of food offerings for lunch and dinner could improve

My mother's in the remembrance portion so I can really only speak to that, I don't know what the rest of the deal is like. I think the people that work with the residents are fantastic, they really truly care about them and they work hard. There's lots of activties to do, it just depends on what the persons specific needs are.

I've only been there a couple of times, it's very clean, it's very elegant, its very well maintained. The staff is very friendly, they've been responsive to any and all family requests. I wish they had more activities that they took them too though. My mom had a car, not that she should have been driving, but she was about to go out and do things and I think she feels a little limited by not having a car. She's not fully adjusted but I think she's wishing there were more palces she could go to, I'm not talking about the daily activities they have there, but the physical activities they take them too. There are certainly things to do and she's doing them, not all of them but most of them and I haven't heard her say anything like "This is dumb, I'm never going back to that."

My father was only there for a couple of weeks. Everybody was very nice there and it's very convenient to downtown as far as location goes.

The location of this community makes it very convenient for our family. They offer independent and assisted living on the same property. There is no buy in you just pay the month charge. We are currently paying around $2,500 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. The apartments are spacious and have plenty of closet space. They have the flat rate fee but also have other services you can pay extra for. Sunrise seems to be working out very well and we would recommend it.

Sunrise was close to where I live so it is not too much of a drive. It was the nicest of all the communities that I looked at. They could use more activities because it seems like our loved one gets bored and starts to call us and wants to come home. They do take them out of the community about twice a month for a lunch which is nice. The cost is about $5,100 a month.

Sunrise was able to provide a more home like type setting rather the institutionalized feeling. We are currently working out some kinks but are pleased as of now.

This community is really nice and very well taken care of. The have a nice garden where some of the residents sit on the rocking chairs and just have a little fun. At one point they were hit a beach ball back and fourth. I work in the industry and knew what level of care we were looking for and what our loved one would need. We had visited 8 different communities and this one was the one we ended up choosing. They have about 56 apartments but they are still able to provide a very home like environment. They have a community dog that everyone just seems to love. Peg from A Place for Mom was gave us this recommendation and was very helpful. She made it very easy to choose and knew what questions we should be asking. We are very happy with Sunrise and would recommend it to anyone.

I chose this community because when I came for a visit there was just a good atmosphere. The day I visited they were having snack time and they were giving vegetables which really made me feel like it would be a healthy place. The VA was able to help pay for it so that was a big plus.

We visited about 4 communities and this was the nicest of the lot. The rooms in Brighton Gardens just seem more spacious and a little bit nicer then the other communities. This community they have their own bathroom and at other they had communal bathrooms. Overall Brighton just seemed to be a little better then the other community and we would recommend it to anyone.

We chose Sunrise because of their location; it is very convenient for our family. The staff is just wonderful. They are very educated and very professional. With this community we knew what we were getting the price. We are very pleased with our choice and would recommend it to anyone. (Can not rate activities because do not know if loved one is participating)

We chose Sunrise of Willowbrook because we really liked what we heard about the staff. We heard about how good they are and how friendly they are, since we have been here they have really lived up to it. They have a very low turn over rate with the staff; the executive director has actually been working here 13 years. It is located off a busy road but here are houses that shield it from the road. It really has a home like feeling and doesn't give the institutionalized feeling. We are dealing with a couple of issues but they aren't major ones, like had gave donuts for a snack rather then something healthy. Small things like that but the staff really has a very open line of communication and try to help as best as they can. We are very happy with our choice and my loved one really seems happy here.

One of the main reasons we choose the “Sunrise of Palos Park” for mom is because of its location it located close my brother and me. The people are really nice and the community is very clean. Although it is very clean it doesn’t have a hospital or nursing home feel to it, it feels more like a hotel setting than a nursing home. The overall care services provided are pretty nice, and the activities are great. Mom stays pretty busy with the activities that she likes like when they all get together just for a social or when they play bingo, the people even come and get mom to remind her of the activities that they know she likes. The food is good also, they eat in the dinning room but instead of it being like a cafeteria they actually sit down at a table and can order the food they want from a menu. So it’s more like a restaurant with a good amount of Varity than a cafeteria. Mom also likes going to the on site beautician, she gets her hair done every Friday. My brother and I made a good decision in choosing “Sunrise” for my mom. She is happy their.
