A Place for Mom has scored Sunny Hill Management Co. Inc. with 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 76 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Sunny Hill Management Co. Inc. has 517 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.1 out of 5.
The place is a model of comfort, friendliness, and beauty, but just like a beautiful woman.....it's what is on the inside that counts. Mom has been there only a few weeks. We got her through the initial adjustment and the newnes of routine and being in a new place, then last week it sort of went sideways. There were a few hiccups and I believe my sister (who lives in Corona) addressed them yesterday with management and staff, hopefully. I think my sister and I will need to work hard with mom so that she is engaged with the procedures (I think she is) and just assume Brookdale Magnolia will get back on track. I will be in California with mom shortly for a long visit and I will be able to see and hear what is going on on a daily basis keeping in mind our commitment to Brookdale and Brookdale's commitment to mom.

I was very impressed with the campus, gardens and facilities. Mom was entered at a level 3 out of 4 care and I was given a list of care that would come with the plan, however, after visiting my mother nightly, I have not had my expectations met. In particular, they missed 1 our of two showers promised and are not changing/checking her diaper 3 x a day. When I addressed the nurse, staff and director, I was told "mother" did not deem these needs necessary at the time. Guess What, she is in early dementia and is going to say, "I don't need my diaper changed". The care givers should disregard and simply tell her that "this is what we are doing". The escorts to dinning have ceased and I just hope her monthly cost will come down in light of this.

Our loved one has not been here long, but overall I think they do a good job at Brookdale Sterling Court. It is a ncie looking place, and the staff have been very friendly so far. However, we have had some issues getting things set up with their medication service, that hasn't been as dependable as we had hoped.

I don't have much basis to score the facility. Tentatively I give them a 3. The food is lacking. And there is rampant theft of personal property between the residents. Blankets slippers and a plushie have gone missing. The staff doesn't consider that a problem. The amount of actual supervision is low. The residents largely remain seated in front of the TV.

My loved one has been home for a year. The main complaints were after the facility was bought out by another owner. Staff was cut, attitudes of some of the ones left- not always as attentive. The food went from good to lower style cafeteria. Originally when I was negotiating the entrance fees, it was mentioned.."I can't go any lower because we have to pay A Place For Mom. " I was surprised that was disclosed because you advertise that there's no fee. Unfortunately, we had to pick the least expensive place, so I guess it was a match as far as that. When [name removed] was refused more independent living quarters(because of her psychosis) that was a real blow for her because she worked hard to lose weight and get more mobile. The independent living quarters and grounds and landscapes are really nice however. [nam removed] was never interested in activities, so I can't comment on that. My main concern that should have been addressed was when she was starting to hear sounds and voices and seeing things that weren't there. That should have been reported to the medical staff and Dr on site to take action. When it got bad and she had to go to ER..it was only then that she received the proper meds(which worked) and assigned a psychologist at the facility. Since she was caught in between assisted care and independent living , I felt she could go home given her improvement. She couldn't go any higher there. Please do not use my name or hers in any of these reports. After a good year back in society, she is declining and we may have to re-consider in the future.. going back there(mainly because of price).

Honestly, it's like a three out of five. Food is just OK. They left my grandma in her pajamas until after lunch on the first day because that's when they could shower her and she didn't wanna go down to breakfast in the morning so they didn't help her get changed. The carpet didn't look new. The cabinets don't close all the way in the kitchen and bathrooms, and our rickety, not updated at all. There is little to no space in the kitchen. Oh hi thank you when my grandmother was at the skilled nursing facility they would not arrange for her to have transportation from there to get her to the assisted living, even though it is within their 10 minute radius. It ultimately was my grandpa's choice, but if it were up to me, this is not the place I would have chosen for my grandparents. My grandfather seems to be very happy there, but I was less than impressed considering how expensive these facilities are and the community fee that they have to pay compared to how outdated it is, the included radius, and how underwhelming the staff are. Also, it would be virtually impossible for an older person to navigate getting in and out of the elevators with the valet carts that they provide when moving in. I had to physically bend down and scoot the carts around corners and edges just to get from outside to the elevator room and then again in and out of the Small elevator.

Overall, I believe it is I'm very safe place from my aunt. She has dementia and has tried to escape(official term is elope now) from the facility numerous times and the staff has been very good about redirecting her. There was an issue with her first roommate, and they were proactive in finding her a new roommate. Initially, the administrative staff was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. That has trailed off a bit, so that is a little disappointing. However, I keep returning to the comforting, thought that my aunt is safe, has activities to do, is well fed, and the staff is very engaging with her.

New owners are not well received by staff or residents. Raising fees for everything that use to be included with previously owners. Love the staff not the administrators!

I have a lot to say. More than I can say here. I would NOT recommend this place for: 1. couples that are intent on staying together in the same apartment. They will get separated based on their abilities as they age. 2. Skilled nursing is not actually skilled at all. I definitely would NOT recommend that. 3. It's more expensive. Not only did they charge us more when my mom was moved to skilled, because she was incontinent, but they wanted a separate incontinence program monthly fee. It's more than a la cart. It's double charging in my opinion. 4. Constantly losing all my mom's stuff and clothes. We got so fed up with the rotating workers and lack of personal care. 5. Do NOT tell someone to live here if they have Kaiser. Kaiser will not be allowed in to provide services to residents. And the management does not care.

I love the grounds! I do have a wonderful caregiver Monday thru Friday in the AM. They have one caregiver who is not nice at all. She's very intimidating.

There have been positives and negatives about Sterling Court at Roseville: Positives –the front desk staff is very friendly and not much has changed there with the turnover. I like that it is a smaller venue, with two stories and mom seems to be able to manage. The move in process was fine. The food is okay, but my mom is a very picky, few item eater. The times that I have eaten there it has been okay. The housekeeping is okay, none of it outstanding. Negative - Our biggest complaint is the communication. We have tried, for several months, to get my mom’s charges confirmed. My sister has sent emails, left messages and no response. With the new management, we were told that this would all change, still responsiveness is very poor. We had filled out an in-charge sheet with mom’s ailments, conditions, etc. We put that she does have arthritis. A year into her stay, Sterling with the new executive director, decides mom needs to be moved up a care level because of this. Arthritis was disclosed day one, and Sterling provides NO care or treatment for this. But out of the blue, they want to raise her points up increasing her monthly fee. This executive director and the interim health and wellness coordinator, there has been quite a bit of turnover, were rude and lacked any kind of compassion. Even staff said that the leadership was not their favorite. We are hoping now for the best. It has been difficult to get resolutions to issues. My mom has taken a turn for the worse in the past few weeks, and I will say that everyone has been very compassionate. Since I have never had to deal with end of life, the front desk and wellness coordinator were very comforting. My sister was with my mom today and a gentleman brought her meds. My sister asked what she was getting and the gentleman seemed put off that she asked. He said he didn’t know. For the most part, we are happy with the new management and hope that changes will be made for the better. There is a better spirit in the place. We were told that there were new daily activities planned because their activities as redundant and childish at times. I realize you are trying to give general activities for everyone, but they are boring. The front desk staff are what makes the place tolerable for us. The nurses are nice and do say hi to my mom when they pass. The food service people are also very nice and friendly.

The biggest problem we have had so far with Laguna Estates Senior Living is that it takes the escorts too long to get to our loved ones room to take her anywhere. She says she has waiting 30-60 minutes at times.

The caregivers are amazing. Unfortunately there has been a lot of turnover causing daily staff shortages and cutting corners since the new owner took over a few months ago. Promises for improvements have not happened. With the reduced staff there are safety risks , accidents, and an overall lack of cleanliness. I've witnessed residents sliding out of their wheel chairs, fighting with each other and wandering around calling for help that didn't happen in the past. With only three staff members on duty in the common areas, everyone has to wait. Clothes with nametags disappear. Bathing is not happening twice a week as required. Door handles/chairs are sticky, urine stains/smell, brown stains smeared on patio floor, food smeared on chairs from apparent "spills" or where someone got sick which haven't been cleaned up for weeks. Previous ownership had staff working daily to clean and maintain sanitary/safe conditions for residents. Still waiting for conditions to improve.

We toured Grossmont Gardens and it was okay. The facility seemed a bit old and dark. The apartments were small. I think this facility needs a lot of TLC.

The staff at Brookdale Roseville are all very nice, but I would just tell others to make sure to get everything in writing before you make a decision. On the food, I have only had a dessert there and it was fine, when asked, my mom says that the food is just "ok".

Our family had an in person tour and the big issue with this community for us was that the rooms were in separate buildings and the residents would have to go outside to get to the dining, activity area.

They were very welcoming until they received our money. Once the money was received to move into the apartment, they were very unaccommodating and the lady which we were dealing with Pat for the admissions process was just downright rude after they got the money. Very disappointing. We've had numerous issues since my loved one moved in there all relating to care and money. I would not recommend this place to anyone whose family member is not fully competent and quick-witted.

We weren't completely informed about how they do their prescriptions with Ron's pharmacy was . We had some issues with that pharmacy trying to get his medication. The few days he was here he was not getting the medications that he needed. The pharmacy needed a doctors note and we were not told that. They need to be more forthcoming with that information for new residents before they move in so they do not have the same issue.

The biggest issue that I had was that they lost all of my mothers clothing. They were all clearly marked and they lost full sets of sheets and literally all of her clothes. She came with a large suitcase full of clothes and left with a little bag. They could never explain to me where they went. I even told them I wanted to wash the clothes but they took them anyways. They never changed her sheets once while she was here. I could not get a hold of management. Once the paperwork was signed, they will not speak to you. You can only speak to the floor staff which was very concerning. Medications was an issue as well. They were not giving it to her like they should have., When I took her out, she had many more pills that she should have. The regular staff are wonderful. Very friendly and as helpful as they can possibly be. They made an exception for my mom to bring her little dog while she was here and I did really appreciate that.
