I've been quite happy with them. The food is good and my dad, who is many times a picky eater, seems to have always found foods he likes. He has dementia and was a bit agitated at first with the change from where was in Colorado but within a week settled right in.

The people here were really wonderful, they were sweet and kind. This was not a great experience for us. It wasn't the right fit and we didn't know that going in. It was a much strictor facility than what we needed or was looking for. We didn't really understand what was going on with her. Once we straightened out the medication, we realized this wasn't going to work.

They're doing a good job here, overall. They're providing the care my loved one needs, and although she isn't always happy with what they provide here I feel like they're doing the best that they can. It's a nice looking community, they keep it clean, and the staff are friendly.

He has only ben there a week and I have seen him once so I was pleased with the care so far, but not enough time to give a full evaluation. I call, and today they said that he was talking a lot and his sence of humor was entertaining them all. I am going for a visit on Thursday and will get a better idea of how he is adjusting to his new home.

I was only there for a little bit, but nothing really stood out. The main reason that we didn't choose it was because the memory care was on the third floor and my dad would have had a harder time going outside unless he was chaperoned (which he wouldn't like.) I was also not as homey.

They didn't have anywhere near the physical setting of Whiterock. They weren't as close, but mainly, it sat right by a busy street surrounded by homes on three sides. They didn't have any trees except a few ornamental ones. As far as the interior, it was open and airy and I thought that they were equally as nice. The staff was friendly, and it was a good place.

It's been pretty darn good. It fits about eighty percent of my mom's needs. My mom likes to cook and not eat in house, but she's pretty fussy. She is able to cook in her own apartment.

My dad said it looked like a nursing home. There were a lot of people out in wheelchairs and things like that and that just turned him off.

We had a family member (in a wheelchair chair) here for about 1.5 years who required medical monitoring and medication management, along with help for most everything but usually used the restroom without assistance. We do not recommend The Shores for that much assistance. The food is great, it is a very physically nice place, a lot of nice staff and a decent amount of activities for socializing. This place is best if you just need meals and some socializing but can take care of yourself. They did have a lot of turnover of management and staff. Management’s communication and follow through is awful and they don’t seem to supervise the aides well to assure quality of care. Some aides and the activities director are fantastic, very caring and others were not. Response time to a call button was usually 20 minutes, often longer. One of the medication dispenser aides they hired shortly before we left was absolutely horrific and we had to try to be there to monitor care when she was working.

Whereas I have had very positive experiences with the staff at the Waterford recently they appear to be too overworked and exhausted to have any kind of real personal connection with me.

My mom was sitting on her bed and her feet were sliding and would not stop her from falling to her bottom. She bunched the button for someone to help her and it took 15 mins to get there. What if she had hit her head and poured blood? What would 15 mins look like on your site? It does not look good. I thought this place had 24/7 help and the button they use on them works and makes sure you hear them first. I really thought they would have been there within 5 mins. That's an emergency.

The move-in process was a bit chaotic. The administrators said there would be a cart ready to facilitate moving things. It was not there. We had to ask staff and they said they didn’t know where a cart would be. After several loads, we found a staff member who knew where to get a cart. Since my dad has been there I have asked staff various questions and frequently the answer is “I don’t know.” Some will make an effort to find out, some will not.

It was chaotic in the lobby when we arrived late in the afternoon. We did not tour the facility or see the rooms because they had a waiting list and we needed to place my Aunt immediately. We had a very pleasant meeting with the sales director who gave us a lovely dinner packet to take home as a gift.

All the areas (staff, care, activities, cleanliness, room/apartment size) we're fine. Some personnel better than others, I'm sure like everywhere. Cleanliness and all of the facilities were fine. We are quite angry though at what we see as screwing us a bit financially, and then once dad passed, we've had two more occurrences where they billed his account for somebody else. We did get it back, but it took several weeks and phone calls to do it. So the bottom line is, facility, wise and personnel wise, they were really quite good. But keep your hand over your pocket when you're dealing with them.

We ultimately decided to leave Waterford primarily because of the distance and commute. It was a minimum 40-minute drive for me, and during rush hour the trip home could sometimes take an hour. That made frequent visits and getting back and forth more difficult than we had anticipated. I did not express my dissatisfaction about the level of care when we left, but I had asked about several concerns while [name removed] was there, and unfortunately, those concerns were never resolved. One experience that particularly concerned me was when [name removed] fell out of her bed. It took approximately 45 minutes for someone to come and assist her. I was told afterward that the delay was because of a shift change. The apartment itself offered more space, with a larger living room and bedroom, but [name removed] really didn't need that additional space. We realized that convenience, accessibility, and having a location that was easier for me to get to were more important than having a larger apartment. For these reasons, I would give Waterford 3 stars. There were things we appreciated, but the concerns about care and the distance ultimately led us to look for another option.

The staff: non-responsive to my mom's medical concerns and cleaning staff untrustworthy, activities leader could be very rude and divisive (causes residents to take sides), food was subpar and they weren't accommodating of a resident was late for meals. Apartment was nice. They offered many trip choices for the residents.

Was disappointed with respite stay! Poor communication between staff, seemed short staffed or pulled from other buildings and was hard to get return calls from administrators. Did not feel like many activities were offered and aides not aware of pts needs/ abilities and did not seem to care. Facility was new but inadequately locked/ secured for wanderers, main areas dark w/o windows.

Mixed reviews. Some residents are not well mentally. All others are expected to tolerate their anger, selfishness. It's a toxic environment.

We moved into this facility in February 2024. At the time it was called The Beacon. The facility was great at the time. The building was, and still is in great condition, with custom finishes evident throughout. In July 2026, the facility was purchased by Sonida, who changed the name to The Addison of Gulf Breeze. Since then, it has gone downhill. Technicians came in and changed the wifi, slowing it from 160 megabytes/second to 30 megabytes/second. It drops out 7 to 8 times a day, making it difficult to use to stream television. Complaints have been made, but after 3 weeks, no repairs have been made. We have been forced to buy interne commercially in order to watch TV. The quality of food has also suffered. If you do not like chicken, then you had better stay away from here because you are going to get it a lot. Its just that the menu variety has narrowed considerably. One last thing. I have had to wait as long as 1 hour getting assistance after hitting call button.

Overall, our experience at the Ashton was mixed. My mother stayed there for about four months before developing complications that led to hospitalization and, ultimately, a move to long-term care. She passed away a few months ago. The floor staff were consistently kind, welcoming, and responsive, and the facility itself was always clean and well maintained. Her room, although one of the smaller ones, worked very well for her and was kept clean and comfortable. Our biggest concern was the level of medical communication and oversight. The care team seemed overwhelmed at times, particularly when my mother's needs became more complex. We also had difficulty communicating with the in-house PCP, and there were occasions when we had to bring medical concerns to the staff that we felt should have been communicated to us proactively. The Ashton offered social activities, although my mother generally needed encouragement to participate. Overall, I think the Ashton could be a good fit for someone primarily needing dementia care, but I would recommend families carefully consider the facility if their loved one has significant or complex medical needs in addition to dementia. She was in their memory care unit.
