The rating might be unfair as we really didn’t get to see the facility first hand . However a video tour was sent to us. We felt the facility was very Outdated, but from what we could see clean. Several interesting items like an ice cream pallor and a vintage Ny taxi cab were displayed inside the facility along with a fountain in the atrium entrance with an expansive staircase behind it ??? Maybe it’s us but stairs and older people usually don’t mix well. [Name removed] the community relations manager was lovely and very helpful.

The AL side of this property is wonderful, however the Memory Care side is dark, small and sad.

They do not do the activity bus and other things that they said they were going to do at this community. There is no adapting with the activities and not everyone is able to participate. I would say consider very carefully another community and do not waste your money. They stated that this was the best of the best and if this is it, it is not good.

It's kind of a raggedy operation. High staff turnover so there's no career professionals working there. Nice building. Nice activity program. Smells clean. But sloppy in some ways. They never cut my resident friends finger and toe nails, they let them grow for an inch! I have to bring diagonal cutters and sneakily cut them myself. It's crazy but true. The cook job is also high turnover and somethings wrong, I guess it's extremely low paid and the food has been quite shabby on the few times that I have visited. So, it's not bad but do not expect good service. Just a minimum to get by.

Sadly no activities in memory care recently. It's quite sad...the care is not perfect nor is it anywhere. I think the staff is kind. But things are lost, so much down time.

If you're younger than 85, look somewhere else. Young inexperienced management ...THEY KICKED ME OUT after 2 years BECAUSE I Didn't PLAY PATTY CAKE...I addressed core systemic issues with management and they weren't receptive....dining experience and food was always good despite kitchen staff turnover. Watch out for strange alarming behaviour of some residents in independent living area.

My overall impression, and I say this as a former senior opertions manager of a service company employing 2,000+, is the facility is poorly managed. Excellent marketing but those promises don't match reality. I'm sure they face the same labor shortages that others do, but it appears that they will hire anyone who walks in the door who can pass a background. I have ancedotal evidence that other ALFs are better or worse so I am assuming Brookdale is average. I know I don't want to end up in one of these places.

I took a tour of Gold Choice Ormond Beach when searching for a Memory Care facility for my loved one. This facility was okay overall. The cleanliness and friendliness were okay. However, it was not what I was looking for in a facility for my loved one.
The staff was very nice and caring but a little too familiar. My mother who is very formal would not have fit in.

Bad experience. Family member left sitting on toilet for almost one hour, twice. Felt more like nursing home rather than assisted living.

Poor management communication. Low staff to patient ratio. Most of staff good. But some sit around on their phones and don’t help residents like they should. Noisy, too many alarms going off. When they do it takes a long time to shut them down. Lost many items of clothing and personal items in laundry or other patient’s rooms. Not much cooperation in getting them returned.

I had to move my mother out of this community. She had out grown this facility, and needed more care than they were able to provide. There are not many aids in this community. My mother had an accident where she landed in the hospital. While she was there, they informed me they did not want her to return. This was no longer the community for us.

Welcomes you with all sorts of assistance they will provide but falls way short once you are in. My brother is a resident and has his full social security check paid directly to them. Medicaid says he should receive a minimum of $[fee removed]a month spending but so far he has received two checks and nothing for the last four months. Phone service payment was overdue so his phone has been turned off and he cannot afford to pay his life insurance bills or buy a soda from their machines. Went without TV for weeks until they installed one for roommate which no one seems to have knowledge of how to install. Numerous requests related to these issues just gets shoulder shrugs and "see Administrator" comments. Administrator hides in office and never returns calls. Just wonder if they are holding on to other residents money especially those with memory issues. If you want to abandon your loved ones this is the place.

i lived there for four years. in july it was sold and went from being a family owned business to being part of a giant corporation. it definitely shows. they have massively cut services in independent living. the management team has been a revolving door. shortly after the sale, the executive director, the memory care director, and the activity director left. it’s been a real mess

Since the change of ownership, May River Landing has cut many of the services independent residents have become accustomed to. New owners have made it clear their priority and their resources are on adding an AL unit. They are paying for this partially on the backs of the independent living residents. I will be moving my mother out.

This place is a joke. A literal nightmare to navigate or find your way around. I'm a middle aged, of sound mind & bodied person, not in need of any kind of senior or Assisted Living & I can't even find or figure out how to get my way around once inside! Not to throw the hard working underpaid, marginalized staff working the floors, but even THEY agreed the bizarre design from which to navigate makes no sense at all!!! How in the world do they expect the people living there to effectively manage their way within this maze? Walls, hallways, doors & decor, all institutionalized creme color absent of any color scheme sensibly expectant within such confusing, floorplan. Its an abstract of confusing hallways, with no indicators displaying where you are or which way you're going. Only dominant feature are Exit signs riddled atop every archway, every turn, every bend. Nothing telling where these Exits lead! Room #'sfor resident's? Not sequential & unseen until finding door. Why?? My only Q?

Outside it looks like an awesome facility for the elderly population. I have a loved one that has moved here to be closer to family. We toured before Covid and we were getting ready to move my loved one in. I called and there is a whole new management team. I learned that they let their new sales person go to bring back the one that walked out on the position a few months back. I can’t recall her name however she was the first person we spoke with and we’re not impressed with in the very beginning. We were considering moving my loved one in after meeting and speaking with the executive director . Her name was [name removed]. She has since left and they now have a new one . This is a hard time for everyone so consistently would be a plus. Not very reassuring to hear about all the changes and the fact they would bring back someone that walked out a few months ago without notice is surprising. I live right outside Valdosta and the word of mouth is nothing positive. In fact it’s very troubling.

I went by the middle of last week and I will say the design and outside of the facility is beautiful. However the staff member I spoke with greeted me at the door .She said the lady I needed to speak with for information was not there but she would be back shortly. It was as freezing but I waited outside anyway as she made it sound as if she would be pulling in at any moment . I waited for several min.then I walked back and knocked and she came out of the side office with what appeared to be ufrustration in her eyes. She had on a mask so couldn’t see the rest of her face. I asked her for a brochure. She handed me a packed but when I arrived home I opened it and there wasn’t but one price sheet . So I still have no idea about anything and I felt like I was brushed off and to stand in the cold. She didn’t even ask for my contact information so someone could call me and talk to me about moving my mother in . I will definitely not being moving her in At The Canopy.
