Avoid Emeritus at Buford

Do your loved ones a favor and avoid Emeritus at Buford. Why? The reasons are many. They could not administer my mom's medication properly; that's a huge concern! Their food is no better than a school cafeteria. (ask a community how much their budget is per person per meal). They have been promising high speed internet access in the residents rooms for 15 months and every time I ask for an update no one including the Executive Director knows when or if it will be installed. Why is high speed important to me? So I can show my mom family photos on FB on my IPad. Communication from the facility to the residents family is poor. For example I never know when a doctor is coming for a visit. The facility does not have an email distribution list of the residents family. Trust me this facility has serious management problems. On a positive note the staff is friendly and caring

Similar to the rest

We were hopeful that this place would be better than the rest. It was clean and the staff seemed nice. Unfortunately, nursing homes are only as good as their staff. During my mother’s stay the nursing staff didn’t follow protocol and it resulted in my mother falling and having to go to the ER due a hematoma from the fall. Luckily, she recovered well but it could have ended badly, especially as someone with a history of falls and a brain injury from the year before. The administration knew she had a severe fear of falling and extra precautions should have been taken. I was really disappointed.

Do not recommend!

While there are many wonderful caregivers working at this facility, there appears to be very poor management and training. They are NOT able/willing to care for some patients until the end of life. We were told we had 30 days to find my mom another place to live the day before she died, so the last days of her life we had to spend looking for another place to care for her.

Lack of communication!

I would not recommend the Brookdale Buford to anyone! They had the sales guy do my loved one's evaluation. She was only there for 3 weeks. They have a misrepresentation of what the place is like. The girls who work there have no idea what they are doing.

A Sad Life for an Eldery Person

Their fees are based on what they do for them. She has macular degeneration. They were supposed to help feed her, fill out the meal forms, and they would leave food on a tray and not feed her. She was starving. Some of the staff weren't as nice to her as they could be. She was terrorized to be there. They brought soup to her one time, dinner was never brought to her. This is because no one filled out her menu, if my husband wasn't there she would have starved. They would take her into the lunch room at 11 or 12 at night. This is while the people were laughing at night and doing their jobs, due to her hollering for assistance. They would leave her in her wheelchair during this time. She was tired of sitting in her wheelchair and not what she was supposed to be doing. This is one of the reasons she was scared. I picked this place due to my grandparents being at this community after my grandparents had been there when it was under private ownership. I would not recommend to anyone. They touched her room, but didn't clean the room. Activities including singing, and on Sunday they would be someone to read the bible, and even had bingo. I feel that if we left her there she would have been dead.

HORRIBLE PLACE

I cannot even give this place a rating. My mom lives there and tells me that they have cut down on the amount of food the residents are given. If they have to go to the doctor they have to stay in their rooms for 14 days without seeing anyone. She had a plant that she had for a few years and had it hanging outside. Someone there gave it away. She said that yesterday for lunch she was given 1 chicken leg, and a little rice and beans. She said the food is aweful, and she should know because she is a really good cook. I am trying to get her moved somewhere else. She said the assistants yell at them if they ask a question. DON'T PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE.

Brookdale of Buford

I would not recommend Brookdale of Buford. My mother was there for 7 months and although the individual caregivers are attentive and wonderful, the Administrative staff lacks compassion, and professionalism. They will tell you whatever you want to hear to sign on the dotted line. We were told many services would be available and provided and they were not. Constantly had to fight for simple services that we were told she would receive. Lied to over and over, always unprepared when we requested meetings to discuss situations. Look into other places before you put your loved one there!

Horrible Experience - only lasted 2 weeks there

My mother was in the memory care unit of this facility. She is 91 and has dementia. She shared a room with another resident. We were told that the woman liked to 'touch things'. They failed to mention she [Removed] the things she 'touches'. I realize it's common among [Removed] of dementia, but if it's known that a person does this (and it was), they should be in a private room instead of having them room with another person. After less than two weeks, I was greeted by my mother clinging to a pair of her pajamas and saying "These are MINE!" Her roommate took Mom's diapers (because there was no place to lock up her personal things like diapers - even tho the contract stated that there was - and they never made an attempt to provide a lock even tho I requested it several times). She took Mom's clothes, photos (my wedding picture), towels ... The unit has 14 residents. The weekend we moved Mom in there was ONE person on duty to manage all 14 of them - that includes feeding them. Extremely understaffed. Very chaotic place too. The administrator LIED to me on at least 2 occasions (about the number of people staffing the memory care unit at ALL times and the fact that the room Mom was in had NEVER been shared by two people previously) I can't STAND it when someone lies to me! After two weeks of pure [Removed] I gave them our 30 day notice and moved Mom out immediately. It was well worth it to just get her out of there. I felt I had to go every day to protect her belongings! Now Mom is in a very calm environment with no one taking her things. The caregiver to resident is and amazing 3 to 6! She gets good home cooked meals. I would NEVER recommend Brookdale Buford to ANYONE!"

One person can't fix it all

Has the potential to be an excellent facility the executive director and business office person are ruining every opportunity for this place to thrive. They are extremely rude and unprofessional, they have the worst customer service and you can tell they do not have their heart in their job. The only reason they are receiving one star is because the new nurse manager. She is trying to fix everything but she can't do it by herself. [Removed]. She has the most caring heart and is working all the time, she is there at least one day every weekend and you can really tell how much she loves the residents and their families, when there has been a problem she has had it resolved within 24 hours and if not she calls with updates so that we know she hasn't just let the ball drop on our concern. We adore [Removed], we just wished she had the team that she needs to support her and as long as the current executive director [Removed] is there she won't be able to change a lot. Friend of a family
