poor communication between shifts. unexplained injuries to my spouse with severe Dementia. When I asked for a meeting concerning these injuries, no one had a clue how they happened, and at the same meeting, the cost of care was increased so much that I was forced to relocate him. Dogwood is cosmetically nice. Dogwood has wonderful commercials, BUT... it's all about the money. I would not recommend Dogwood Forest to anyone who has a loved one in their memory care unit.

Dirty. Floors throughout stained and I vacuumed. Was shown rm with clogged toilet (yuk!) and dead bug on floor (double yuk!). Nice views from rooms of trees and outdoor patio. One room had screened porch. Resident dog is awesome. Long corridors with old yellow ceiling lighting made it look dismal. Nice nooks for reading. Good looked terrible..canned peas and something in identifiable. Memory care unit for transitioning.

Lack of Communication/Dirty

Put my Mom in for Memory Care. Fell after 4th night and was never the same. The Caregivers there were great but there was a severe communication problem between staff. Directors, Nurses, Med Tech's they all did not pass on information to each other. There needs to be a daily log for each patient as to how they are doing, changes in meds, etc.... If there is one, they don't use it. I even told caregiver that patients was choking. They said the patient needed "Thicken it" and her family had not brought any in. Another caregiver asked the person in charge and she said "Oh no, she doesn't get that anymore and hasn't for about a month now". The Caregiver asked her if it was in the log book and the person in charge said no it wasn't!!! The Memory Unit was also pretty dirty! They have one person cleaning and maintenance and he does not do a good job. At first glance it looks nice but look again at the filth!

Not impressed by this place

We toured this location when we were looking into care options for a loved one. We were immediately turned off by what we saw and did not stay long. The facility just seemed to have a general lack of cleanliness, and there was a noticeable odor when we walked in. It was enough that we did not stay for the full tour and left after a few minutes.

Memory Care Unit

The memory care unit here was not a good experience for us. Our loved one was there for 7 month and fell 9 times. It seems like the there is just not enough staff to take care of the amount of residents. The staff is super kind and the community was really clean. The food was well prepared as well. The problem was with the care services, they just did not have the amount of staff they need to run it properly.

Was not impressed by the reception staff. She was very helpful about getting us in touch with the director because there was confusion about the appointment, but other than that her professionalism lacked. Really appreciated the director, and the individual rooms were wonderfully updated and appointed. Not impressed by the memory care facility nor the staff of the facility. Memory care was not "locked down" but had an alarm on the door instead. When the alarm went off, they didn't pay any extra attention to it. The Memory Care section was very smelly and didn't seem overly clean.

Bad and getting worse

Yes, Northlake Gardens is dated and a bit shabby. However, that's not the worst thing. The worst thing is the quality of the care. While a few of the care givers do seem to really care about the residents, most don't seem to. They are rude, unfriendly and don't smile (maybe because they are under paid and under staffed). There have been many days where my mom was left wet in bed all day. There is high turnover at all levels of the staff: from the director to the nurse to the caregivers. Much of the time there was not a nurse on staff. The corporation that owns Northlake is cutting costs on all levels and does not have the best interests of the residents at heart. We are moving my mom.

My sister wrote the not so nice review below. An Oaks representative responded. I must say the response is inaccurate. My sister did not give inaccurate information to the Oaks regarding my mothers admission. She provided the information she had. The Oaks admitting team was supposed to meet with personal care home nurse & ASSESS my mom & get the accurate information. They failed to do so. Also, they did in fact charge the full amount even though my sister had to hire private care givers to care for my mother while she was there. I handle my parents finances so I know this for a fact. What makes it worse is they fail to admit their error but rather try to put the blame on our family. They told my sister they would give a partial refund due to the circumstances but did not. I just wish they would quit their excuses & take responsibility. Stop blaming others for what you put us through.

Don't do it. Keep looking.

The issues here are the typical ones that arise from having a place with high turnover, poor internal and external communication, and a general failure to recognize the importance of running a care residence with actual care and a commitment to following best practices and implementing beneficial advances. Those are highly important factors when you search for people who are charged with every minute of life, health, laughter, safety, comfort, and peace for your husband, wife, mother, father, sibling or other vulnerable person you love. If your loved one requires or will likely require memory care, avoid this place at all costs (not that you'll find much higher anywhere in Atlanta, including Buckhead, Midtown, etc.). In general, record everything you can (GA is a one-party state, you can record every conversation you a part of). What you are assured in care, costs, etc. will vary from person to person and day to day, with the only constant being the staff blaming either the resident or the family. There are so many options in the area and around Atlanta, with new ones opening about every month. It's tedious, but so worth it to keep looking.

Insensitive

Disappointed with the ownership of the facility. My mother-in-law was there for a total of 4 days before The Oaks required her to leave their facility in order to be hospitalized for a condition they were not equipped to treat. We requested a credit since we prepaid for the month and paid their application fee of almost $1,000. The staff indicated a credit would be issued but required approval from the owner. The owner initially said he would issue a credit but ultimately refused. My mother-in law never returned to The Oaks and since has died.

Cameras Don’t Lie!

We moved my Dad here after my Mother passed from their home in Chattanooga, TN where he and Mom were so deeply loved and respected. The Oaks at Hampton seemed like a good place for Dad in the beginning; however, I began documenting everything due to some questionable things we observed being allowed/tolerated by the staff towards the residents. We eventually added cameras to my Dad’s room, as anyone who has a loved one in these facilities should! Same director, but numerous staff turnovers, including 4 wellness directors in the almost 3 years he lived there. At the end of my Dad’s life, a medtech from the memory care side was filling in and she was callous and uncaring towards my Dad and called him “ridiculous” as he struggled at the end of his life (Parkinson’s & heart failure) before he took his last breath. We reported to both directors (AL and memory care)and shared the videos showing incidents, but no action was taken or resolved-not even an apology. Unacceptable behavior!

He was there and on his 2nd day climbed the fence and got out. The only way they knew about it was a passer by saw him and reported it. He told them he was hungry. I know he had access to food. I think he just wanted out. He was there only 10 days and had to be removed. My sister went to the trying to get a refund and could never get the right person on the phone. She would never return any calls. Also my sister gave her[ amount removed]for haircut etc. and she put the money in a box on top of a cabinet in her office. My sister finally got that back. I have heard that she is no longer employed there. I would advise anyone to never give cash money without a receipt and to go see for yourself how things are on a daily basis. The facility itself was very nice and clean.

Horrible Experience

Do not take your love ones too this facility. It stinks, they don't keep an eye on the residence, if they get hurt they are going to lie about what happened and they are not professional

Review for Oaks at Mt. Pleasant

I left with my father feeling sad that people had to live there. Again it's a cheaper alternative to what is in the area but it is not a good facility. It's a cheaper alternative to places in the area but it is not a good place. I was horrified by my experience there and moved my father out of there as soon as I could.

Poorly run facility

Administration did not disseminate information appropriately, follow up to assure care was taking place, or when necessary contact family timely. To assure things are being done family needed to stay vigilant and share information with each shift and new employee. Even with numerous reminders some services were never put in place. Staff interactions with residents demonstrated limited patience and lack of understanding of this population. Without repercussion, staff was permitted to curse and talk negatively of residents. Rather than relieving the family of responsibilities, more was put upon them.

Disappointed and Disillusioned

Oaks at Post Road has been in turmoil since just after Mom joined the community [date removed]She's lived through a major renovation that has yet to be completed, 4 directors and staff changes that go with that disruption. Staffing is an ongoing problem with more agency staff than company hires. Can't tell how many chefs have been hired and quit/fired, but Mom constantly complains about no fresh food. All in all we stay because there's no where else to go. Long waiting lists at faculties and others that you hear about the same problems as where she is. She's very happy with Empower Therapy that is a provider there.

The food they served the residents seems to be top notch. However, the residents are confined to chairs all day. My mother developed a deep curve in her neck/upper back from being curled up in a chair all day. The place often smells like urine and they promised me a monthly rate for a full year and then raised the rate without warning after only a few months which created an extreme hardship for my family. My mother's health and happiness have increased since she has moved back home. All of her hospice care nurses and aids are so happy that my mother is no longer at The Oaks and always mention how much better she is doing now.
