We toured the Brookdale Smithfield. It was a nice community the staff was friendly and gave a good presentation of what their community could offer. We chose a smaller community that was a better fit for my mother.

Our experience with Lane Park has been a good one, in general, and I think they are working on improving. It's a newer facility, and they've got a new management staff in that is working on making things better. I saw quite a few communities in the area and this is definitely one of the better ones. However, as is the case with a lot of these places, I feel like things wouldn't be going as smoothly if I wasn't visiting often and being an advocate for my loved one, and I wish I didn't feel like that was necessary.

I have found that the staff is very friendly. My aunt came here for rehab and to our surprise because she always made us promise not to put her in a nursing home she decided she didn't want to leave. She misses the rehab floor because they were more helpful.

I saw this one and it was nice. It was not quite as open as another place I saw. It was a little more expensive, and further away, so we didn't go with this one.

That was not my favorite. It was just not very bright. The lady was very nice and very accommodating - it was the building, the room and the accommodations in general. It was more dark and dreary.

When I moved my parents in I was told they would assist them. They do not appear to assist them with the daily problems they experience. Be cautious of salespeople who over promise. I asked a lot of questions about who would assist with medication, general needs like their TV, phones and internet. I was told they had people who would assist them with the day to day difficulty of aging. It turns out they feed them and house them but do no more. [Amount removed] a month for a two bedroom apartment and meals. I feel like they should do more.

They said it would be an appropriate environment but she ended up needing a higher level of care. Rooms were large. Staff seemed nice.

Room is adequate. The common areas are sufficiently cleaned. Activities are often a video of exercise or a sermon or a movie their ages are not interested in. Residents do not engage with the videos. Animal documentaries would be better than Jim Carey movies. There are some staff who are very pleasant but most of them do not smile or greet visitors. They do their jobs but don't seem happy there. Food is good, beautifully presented and served hot. Large portions.

If your family member is truly assisted living, I think it's a fine place. When you start to need extra help, it becomes more difficult to help. Weekend staffing could be improved. Also the staff turnover is very high. Another difficult adjustment for the elderly.

All I can say is the caretakers were very nice but I went there several times a week to check on my dad and I felt that was necessary. Was disappointed in some of the situations that occurred especially not answering the call bell and the care my dad received after falling.

Overall, experience, the staff that I have come across have been very good and are very good to the residence problems. Are they do not give the patient or their residence their two time a week shower they do not do the laundry two times a week like they said they would do. The food is good. The activities are good. They are short staffed. They're missing a long-term memory care manager/Director they're missing their sales person. These two people have quit recently numerous staff members have quit. I do not know why they don't use some type of manpower service to fill the vacancies until they can hire full-time people.

I would give Merrywood 3 stars. The dinning room staff is so kind. They are understaffed so a meal takes about 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes not even order takes for 45 minutes. Not bad when sitting with friends. The activities are mostly online in auditorium in W building. A long walk. Then depending on staff they don't start on time. The great activities are yoga and Tai Chi both with experienced practitioners The worst is the Care Giving Staff. They run in drop off meals and run out. Forget to take garbage out. Pull covers up on bed and call it made. Sorry they lied and said an RN is in charge if they told the truth I would have stayed at Merrywood.

A Place for Moms made an appointment for us, however, it did not seem like they were aware of the appointment. We were not thrilled with their 2-bedroom layouts. Closet space at a minimum. Activity centers were on different floors instead of being in one place.

Overall I would say I have been disappointed by the experience. They are disorganized and at times down right rude to the people living there. There are some bright spots, but the oversight and follow through has been generally poor. Disappointing. Many of these issues could be remedied with oversight.

Staff is nice I just wish they interacted more with the residence. Especially memory care.

As a resident, I have learned to have patience with others. I am also learning to slow down my pace. I think that it is excellent here. They food you good and treat me with respect. I do think that the cost, is high, but this is home now and I am real happy!

Sometimes there is not an RN or LPN on site. Overall, the staff is friendly and polite. My mom doesn’t love the food, but I think the variety and hours of food service are great. The cost is high, and care is tiered.

At times we have to want a while (15-20 mins) before we can get assistance, help is friendly when they arrive, but more helpers would be good. The food is usually pretty good. We rarely go hungry.

I would like to say when I started my journey at Smithfield Woods I want happy because I wanted to stay home, however as time went by I got a lot better for me. The staff is very nice, the meals are food and my overall experience has been good.

My overall experience here at Smithfield Woods has been good.
