They do fun family events, they do seem lighter staffed on the weekends. I would have liked some support with the transfer process, however we were left on our own through that

I continue to be grateful for the care that the staff give mom. She is doing quite well, as demonstrated by our nearly daily phone calls. Mom is clearly in a great place.

This is now a Brookdale community. They have all new leadership and it shows! The people were friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms were recently remodeled and they have the cutest memory care unit. I think my mother-in-law is going to love it here. One of the best things about this community is that they have continuing care, so mom will never have to go to another facility as she ages. I really enjoyed my experience.

Lots of Staff

I don't go in every day, but from what I have seen, I am very pleased. When I have gone in they have them involved in some sort of activity, and they try to engage as many people as they can on the level that the people can engage. It seems like there is a lot of staff per patient. They don't really let them go to their rooms during the day that much, so they are all out in the common area. They have a lot of people involved taking care of them and doing the activities. They are very informative. She fell a couple times, and tested her for UTI right away to see if something would be causing the falls.

a really good place for my mother

I would recommend this community to others. The communication is very good between the community and the family. They communicate via email and the phone including photos of the activities, and any covid updates.

Hawthorne Inn and Estates of Brandon

Overall, our experience was reasonable, though it’s clear that a higher level of comfort and services would likely require paying more elsewhere. The facility itself is relatively clean, and we didn’t encounter any major issues with cleanliness during my mother’s time there. The staff members are very friendly and generally try to be helpful. However, because the facility is owned by a corporation, there seems to be a limit to how much the administrative staff can do. Staffing levels appear somewhat limited, but the employees we interacted with were kind and approachable. One thing we noticed is that many of the residents tend to keep to themselves, so the social atmosphere can feel a bit isolated at times. The activities offered are fairly limited and not particularly engaging, which may contribute to that feeling. The food was one of the weaker points. Meals tended to be bland and repetitive, with little variety. In terms of value, it doesn’t feel like the best value for the price, though it may be more manageable for residents who receive financial assistance with rent. Monthly costs ranged from about $[removed] depending on the resident, and that does not include additional charges if extra aide services are needed. This review is based on my mother’s experience as a tenant and the feedback she shared with me during her time there.

Tried and true

The staff is pleasant and attentive, it is clean with average amenities, the residents are friendly, and there are plenty of activities. The rooms are good sized and they don't nickel and dime the residents. Communication can be an in issue at times, so I'd recommend to keep all correspondence handy, but we had a great experience and my mother is settling in just fine!

Don’t Rush Memory Care—Advocate for Proper Assessment

I want to share a personal experience that may help others navigating senior care decisions. My mother was placed in Memory Care when Assisted Living would have been a more suitable option for her at the time. While the care staff were truly wonderful—kind, attentive, and professional—the environment wasn’t the right fit. She was cognitively more independent than most of the other residents and often felt compelled to help them, which caused her a lot of stress and anxiety. This wasn’t a reflection on the quality of care, but rather a mismatch in placement. I encourage families to advocate for a thorough evaluation and to ensure their loved one is placed in a setting that matches their current needs. Memory Care can be incredibly valuable—but only when the timing is right.

The apartments are very small and expensive. The people that live at this place are nice. Not just with me. At the moment I would not recommend the community to other families.

Pros and Cons

Be persistent when asking for anything. It can take a while before you see results. Housekeeping should be cleaning the rooms regularly and they don't. I have activities a 5 so there is no need for improvement. The food can be improved by cooking the vegetables longer so they residents can chew them more easily

Overall a nice community

My father needed assistance with showering, and attendant put wet clothes & towels in hamper. We felt it would have been better to allow them to dry on towel bar, or side of hamper. My mother would move them to dry when she came to visit. The toilet was always messy, and we felt it should have been cleaned more often. Facility itself was older, but kept very nice. One thing I wish this place had was an area to go for a little walk outside with my dad. There isn't room on the property for it, but my dad found it a little frustrating he couldn't get out a bit. There was a cover porch with rocking chairs, which was nice. Overall was good experience.

Review for Brookdale Palmer Ranch

I would reccomend Brookdale Palmer Ranch to others, with a couple of provisions. If the person in question can get around on there own and likes to go outside, then another location would be better. A place with a secure outside area. Do not use a location that caters to memory care only. If at all possible, make the living quarters private, not shared. Pick a place that is bright, not dim. If the person in question can be moved to a location where family can visit on a regular basis, by all means do so.

Would recommend this community

Our loved one really enjoys the friendly atmosphere and the accessibility of the executive director. This community recently had a change of ownership so the only thing our loved one is unhappy with is the new staff changes they are making.
