My parent have lived here for 3 years. The cost has gone up almost $1,000 per month since then. The food is awful. Kitchen staff do the best they can, but the quality of food purchased is horrible. My mom has had stomach issues since she moved in. Management constantly make empty promises to improve. Thankfully, my parents are moving out of this over priced, poorly managed place.

I would not take my dog there to be taken care of. There is not enough help and the ones that do care, and i use that term loosely, do not do anything but the bare minimum. The corporate office is more concerned with marketing and getting the rooms filled than with good care. They ignore prescriptions to be given (only to find that they can't find them). They don't seem to be able to do the rudimentary extras that we pay for at the tune of $5k a month..... The activities director, [name removed], is awesome and so are a very few of the staff, but for the most part, it is sub par care for a very high price tag. As far as i am concerned it is verging elder abuse, and we will be removing my parent from the facility asap. We would not care for him the way they are, i.e., shaving (never), nail trimming (never), nail cleaning (never), etc. Sitting in diapers that haven't been changed for hours, just disgusting. This is after repeated notification to the Care coordinator, Administrator and other staff members. Clothing is missing, or not done effectively, leaving no clothes to wear if an accident. The list goes on....but I am sure that you get the just.

My father has recently made the move into this community and he is not happy at all. The staff seem to be okay but they are not great at working on pleasing the residents needs. My dad has had many poor dinning room experiences where they never give him what he orders and when he receives the meals they are burnt or very poor quality. The thing that I am bothered most with is when he would complain to try and get it fixed they would give him lots of attitude. I also think it is odd that the housekeepers are also the waitresses, they just seemed very over worked and tired. With how things have gone my dad has decided to remove himself from this place and would not recommend it to anyone.

Very friendly. Management and staff are sensitive to individual need and go above and beyond to meet those needs. Excellent!

We have had a relative who has lived at Thornton Place for a few years. Until the last year or so, it was a great place to live. It is quickly becoming a frightening place for seniors. Staff has been cut to less than bare minimum. In fact, now there is NO STAFF in house at night and we know for a fact that there are falls and other unforeseen problems during the night for which residents need quick help. The food used to be very good, but now is mediocre at best. Bus service keeps being reduced. Plus, over the years we personally know of residents who were unsafe in independent living conditions, but instead of encouraging, or demanding in some cases, the resident find safer accommodations, we have seen managers do what they can to encourage people to stay, even when it was not in the resident's best interests. Are there no regulations for this type of facility? 2 years ago, we would have considered living at Thornton Place. Now we would not consider it unless these and other problems are corrected. Please be careful when considering this place.

This place is the last place I would even send a parent or loved one. My mom has been in the hospital more since she moved in to this place. The manager Larry, should not be a manager at any place that cares for the elderly. He is not a nice person. I will say most of the staff are caring, especially the nurse staff. Other than that, all this place wants is your money. Highly advise to not send anyone here

My mom lived here. Be careful to fit into the mold here, they will push you out or evict you if you don't fit in. They have been absolutely horrible to a few of the residents, including one who is a great help to and loved by everyone at the residence! They are really looking for residents who are half comatose and just want to nap twice a day and stay out of their hair. The management has turned over about every 6 months since my mom was there. Although they remodeled after the earthquake in 2014, the rooms are pretty dumpy and have tiny closets. Getting your food takes forever... don't know why they can't serve each table as folks arrive. They have a messed up system for feeding the residents. Plan on every meal taking 90 minutes. They don't offer a building wide wifi. There is no pool or much of an outdoor space to relax for the residents. Both times I used the restroom near the dining room, there were smelly, disposable adult underwear in the trash. Washing machines are down the hall in a separate room.

My mothers stay there wasn't as good as it should have been. I still feel that the managers at the facility do little for I'm sure what they get paid for and there over all attitude to the residents and guests is less than acceptable.

They could improve on everything. They did nothing well. At first it seemed like a good choice, it was convenient for family visits and the initial price seemed reasonable but most of the services that were promised were all very, very sub-par. On top of that, when my mother passed away, the last two and a half months she was there, she was hardly there at all. And though I didn't expect them to give us a break on the rent, they said the contract was terminated when she passed, but after she passed they held us to the 30 day rule and tried to keep our deposit. So they were deceptive in their business practice. After they refunded me, they tried to electronically withdraw it again. On top of that the management was very unresponsive. [removed] Overall it was a very negative experience.

Some of the kitchen and wait staff are great and so friendly. However, the staff seems to turnover quite frequently which would indicate a management problem. The food lacks in quality and I would expect more for the cost.

Indigo Pines is horrible and incompetent! I was almost hospitalized due to stress for all that I had to deal with. Giving them a half of star is generous. They had no managers their every time I visited, when I asked why I learned that they had floating managers, so they had a new manager about every four day. They don’t even help to make easier for when family comes to visit. They are understaffed every time I looked around everyone was left to themselves. They talked me into enrolling into a program where she would be watched and help by a person for 24hrs a day for an extra $300 a day. When I went to visit the person who was supposed to be watching her never showed up they didn’t even know who my mother was. My mom had a broken hip and was put on the third floor. So when she couldn’t get her food no one ever helped her if you missed a meal you just didn’t eat. I had to constantly bring her food. There is a fight between the residents every time I get in the elevator because they are rushing to get to the cafeteria so they don’t miss there meal. The bedding on the beds is horrible as well, it’s worse than the cheapest bedding you can buy. I purchased bedding for my mother so she could at least be comfortable and they told me that if she used that bedding I would have to clean and strip the bed myself and was the sheets they would not maintain or help. All this combined with the fact that they missed her medication a couple of times, made this experience a total train wreck. I love my mom and just want what’s best for her. I had to miss so much work so I can go take care of her while she was their. I have moved to a new place now “Bloom at Hilton Head”. They are incredible. I had to wait three days before I could move in mom to Bloom because I had to wait for her T.B test to come back. I was going to call in to work all those days. Bloom said that I wouldn’t have to miss work and helped me find someone to come to the house to take care of my mom for those three days. They also worked with her on making a meal schedule that better suites her needs. They even put her name on her door so it’s easier for to find and they make it a point to learn everyone’s names residents and family members. They are great at helping her transition into the new surrounds. They had no issues with me brining in better bedding, they even washed it and had everything set up for when I moved in Mom. I had to pick her up for a doctor’s appointment the other day and mom hates going to the doctors. They had her ready for her appointment and they even managed to keep her calm so she wouldn’t fight me on having to go like she usual does. She is no longer scared. Bloom is worth “5 STARS”!
