Seemed like a nice place!

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. We ended up selecting another community, but this is somewhere I would have considered as an option for my loved one.

Seems very nice. It's an older facility but appeared to be well maintained. Nothing fancy. They have many activities for the people living in the independent section. There were no odd smells. The dining room was nice and they have a chef on site to cook all meals. Met with Kathy Nance. She gave me a list of the room sizes and their prices. It's nice that they have a beauty salon/barber shop on site as well...

Very nice place

My loved ones have been here for about a year, and I feel like so far things have gone pretty well. The facility itself is nice enough, the food is good, and they provide a few different levels and types of care. And I feel like the quality of care they provide the residents is one of their strong suits.

Good staff and communication

My mother-in-law has been in this facility for a number of years, and they do a great job. Her level of care is high, but the staff are very friendly and compassionate and do a great job of keeping her comfortable and safe. They're very about keeping the family informed about any problems or situations that come up.

Extremely friendly and clean

This was expensive, they did not seem to be willing to work with an insurance company or any kind of facility like that because she's on medicare but they require private pay. They didn't want anything to do with medicare. It was very nice, I was very impressed with it, everybody there was very friendly and it was very clean. I have been in so many assisted livings and nursing homes and I know they smell. I know it's not an easy thing for them to take care of and I also know that accidents happen with older people, but I was just really impressed with the cleanliness.

what is wrong with this......

in the past few months, I have seen some things which need some attention. the oak dining room for instance does not have enough servers for the # of persons to be served without having office staff brought in to wait on tables, some independent persons are made to move to the manor for persons that require special care however one person in fact is getting on fine with border line dementia and is being moved from a apartment to the manor saying they need special care although another person is allowed to remain in the independent apartment because they have a care giver, a person to stay with them and assist if needed while the other person is made to give up most of their possessions they have lived and loved with because they do not have a care giver..is this right without giving this person information on a care giver..????????.

I would give this community a B plus!

My parents are still getting used to the routine at the community. Most of the staff are good most of the time. They accommodate dads dietary needs, however he does not like the food. I have not seen a lot of activities in the memory care unit. I would recommend this community.

Perfect Storm

Our experience with The Landmark started off very positive. The staff at that time as well as the administration were top notch. All went above and beyond before the move in. I was aware one of the administrators would be going on medical leave for a few weeks prior to move in. But shortly thereafter, the director of nursing left without notice. Red flags started appearing with some of the other staff although I continued to prepare for his move in. On move in day, there were interim people trying to fill in for the absent administration staff but none of our preciously completed paperwork could be found. Chaos was very evident everywhere and thankfully I had the good sense to take my loved one back home with me. I’m trusting the Landmark will become the wonderful place I originally saw once the staffing issues are resolved.

The main challenges we've had are around maintenance availability and follow through of my loved one's cottage and horrible lawn care (supposed to be included). Overall though, it's been a blessing. McKendree is also the only facility that we found that offers Independent living AND allow pets.

Tour of McKendree Village

I toured McKendree Village and I didn't feel it was as secure as other communities we saw. There was access to the elevator and that would've only been dealt with by an arm bracelet. We chose another community because my mom was extremely exit-seeking, and I didn't think it would be secure enough.

Less than expected for the money

Our mother has been in long term care a year now. We visit 4-7 days a week. The food is good, she is happiest about that, although they struggle to stay on a schedule. There are some very good employees, but, there is a lot of turnover in "technician's" and this has led to a lot of negligence, especially during the weekends. They only order incontinence "diapers" in size large, for use on every occupant regardless of the severity of their incontinence, or, physical size. Since the family gets charged back for these as "supplies" the least they could do is order the right capacity and size. Too many times we have stopped by for a visit and mom either reeks, or, has a puddle under her, and "techs" are gathered around the nurses station gossiping. Bells and lights ringing constantly. This is supposed to be a step up from public funded long term care, but, it is run like a warehouse.

Staying on 7th floor of 17 floor independent living tower, had toilet back up when just flushing urine! This facility is now non-profit so you must provide all sources of income plus last 2 years of income tax records! The facility is over 50 years old and the independent living cottages, some are in bad/uncared for state!

Felt a little rushed and institutional, not very personal.

The woman that greeted me and took me around was very personable and friendly, but they were the only place that didn't know, or ask, who we were looking for or why. She had to keep looking at the clipboard for her name, it was a very cursory quick tour, and it felt very institutional. The residence in the independent area looked like a New York walk up apartment, kind of dim and dreary.

Not a great experience

We had received great feedback from others about this facility, but we've struggled with our experience so far. Our main concerns being falls and weight loss for our loved one. We've reached out to the Executive Director several times and it's been very difficult to get straight information about our loved one and what's actually going on. We're just not sure how much of it is due to Nature vs Nurture. Communication with the family has not been good. For example, our loved one was at the hospital being prepped for a procedure and we had no idea. We didn't receive a call or notification from the facility. Unfortunately, I think this is the only facility in our area that accepts Medicare. We haven't been satisfied with things here at all. I wouldn't recommend this facility to family and friends.
