Improvements needed

The facility is disorganized with the whole billing piece and they do not have a good payment system. They never give my loved one invoices and I would call to figure it out and it is hard to get a hold of anyone. During covid there has not been any activities to keep the residents busy so they are just sitting in their rooms. My loved one tries to make the best of it, but we have not been pleased. The required documents for move in are missing many pieces and there is no timelines. Overall, I would not recommend this facility, we have been very frustrated.

Gull Creek - Beware

My parent currently lives at Gull Creek and has been a resident for several years. Sadly the current management company based in Chicago implemented changes that impact residents, staff retention and care. Food is very low quality, staff turnover frequency is rampant. Administration is abysmal. Recent staff hour cuts have led to poor resident care.

Disappointed

My mom is in memory care. My mom was there for a little over a year. Things declined over that time. They have a high turnover rate for staff. A lot of the families volunteered to do things to help. The room size was great, she had a nice room. My mom never saw a doctor while she was there only LPNs. We were never able to get a Dr. signature for our legal and medical paperwork.

Not so sure

The good things first: Lacey Creek is a newer facility that is clean and well kept. The rooms are spacious and in good condition. There are activities to keep residents busy. The not so good: Medication errors: My family member experienced medication errors several times ( in regards to amount and dosages). This I see as most troublesome. While most of the staff are pleasant, there are some who have been abrupt and rude. The building, although new, has had a breakdown of its elevators, which led to residents not being able to do some of the activities they like.

New facility with some disappointments

At first, I was very excited about my mom finding a facility that is fairly new and not extremely far from me. My excitement has worn off as I am beginning to see some of the faults of this place. A major issue was that the staff who are supposedly managing her meds have messed up her pills and dosages several times even after my mom informed them of the correct dosing. Very disappointing, not to mention downright dangerous, as many elderly take heart medication. Another disappointment is the staff. My mother went to the health staff office once as she wasn’t feeling well, only to be treated rudely and without compassion. I have seen staff hanging out chatting or on their phones, seems to be the norm nowadays. Although the building itself is fairly new, a set of elevators broke down almost 2 months ago and has not yet been fixed. The residents used to be able to go to the library, beauty salon, use the exercise room and watch movies in a theater in the lower level of that building. Since the elevators have broken dowm, they lost access to those activities. Disappointing considering the 5,000 per month they ask for staying there. Food quality is average to less than average. Overall, disappointing.

Must be highly functional to live here.

I do not recommend Heritage Woods unless you are highly functional. There are not enough CNA's if you need any additional care or help with taking medications or have any personal hygiene issues, dementia or memory issues. Only one CNA for each floor. If you're placed on the newer/annex wing of the complex, those residents get left out of many activities that are mainly held on the other side of the building. It's too far of a walk for some of the residents and CNA's aren't helpful with getting them over there because they are too short staffed. Felt that some CNAs are not very engaging with their residents, but found them talking to their fellow CNA's more than to their residents. Once any residents begins to have confusion or dementia they immediately have you take urine analysis which is good to check for Urinary Tract Infections, but could be used later as reason to have you moved out because your are not considered a "good fit". Found that some of the nurses were rude and unprofessional when dealing with resident's family. They were also having staffing issues for CNA's and difficulty hiring house keeping. Was paying for some services that were not being provided as promised due to staffing issues. Noticed that there were some rooms that were a revolving door with new residents that were soon moved out and replaced with another new resident. The rooms are nice and the food was very good, but you must be highly functional to live here or they will be quick to move you out.

Do Not Like The Way They Do Business

At this point, we are looking for a new place to move my mom. I don't like the way this community does their business. They have raised the cost of the nursing care cost that my mother receives if she receives it. She is in a wheelchair and they don't have a handicap van so she can't go on any of the day trips or be taken out to lunch or doctor appointments. Mom has a lovely balcony off her room that she could go sit on and enjoy the view however she is unable to because it is locked all the time and we did not know that when we toured the community. All of the staff covers meal times so if a resident such as my mother needs something in her room she has to wait until after mealtime to be attended too I just feel that for the amount of money my mother is paying she is not getting the quality of care or services she is paying for.

Could have better care !!

My mother was only at this community for a short period of time and honestly I am not very pleased with how things went for her. She had fallen multiple times and the last time actually put her in the hospital and she could not return to this facility. I wish the staff could have provided better care to her and they where more attentive to her needs. They had told me that they could take care of her and that was obviously not the case.

Bad Environment

Hearth at Tudor Gardens in Keepsake Village is scary. One resident yells for help ALL the time while staff and aids just ignore her. She's either shouting in the middle of the activity living room with residents around as staff text or staff leave her alone in her room yelling. Staff don't seem to care or want to work with seniors. It's troubling what care the residents receive when no one from outside is there watching.

Not Comparable To My Last Residence

I am now staying at this community and so far it is going well. I have housekeeping come to my apartment once a week and she washes my sheet too. The staff are very helpful, happy, and informative, they say "Hello" every time they see me and answer any question if I call them. There are activities available like exercising class that I enjoy. A local library sends me books once a month based on what I like. My only complaint is the food, it does not taste good to me and the options are limited. I also don't like the assigned seating in the dinning room, I thought people could mingle during meal time.

My parent lived there for months. While the facility looks great and people are friendly they are not prepared or willing to assist with certain needs. Arden courts is so far superior. This facility is not prepared to deal with a resident with worsening memory issues. I actually had CNA's tell me that they did not know what to say when a resident got confused. The staff is very young and not fully trained to deal with memory issues. Without exaggeration 90% of the time the residents are sitting and sleeping in their chairs. They talk a good game by listing activities that actually never took place. Arden has skilled nurses and aides that deal with memory impairment and can handle when your parent gets worse. I caught a certain nurse in lies three times with regards to my parent. When the parent gets sick they notify the MD by fax first. The nursing care is sub par. Make sure you have a plan in place when your parents memory gets worse- you will be forced to hire another company to assist or be stringly encouraged to move. Seek elsewhere. There are better places. I am a health professional and I regret having placed my parent there. Rent went from $5800 to about $6300-6500 once at full capacity. I saw no difference in the activities.

Not Happy With Care

My mother has lived at Heritage for just a few months and I can honestly say I am not pleased with the care given. We are looking to move her elsewhere due to the lack of quality staff, especially when it comes to nursing. It seems their CNA's change on a regular basis which can be confusing for my mom. Not to mention the fact that her laundry is frequently lost, medications are not given on time and it is not uncommon for her apartment to be unclean. I used to hear nothing but good things about Heritage prior to moving mom in, I am upset as to what it has turned out to be. This age group deserves much more for the money we are paying them.

Not my friend

They were not my friend. It is not even assisted care. It is below that. They say it’s assisted, but it’s not. Last winter my loved one was there for six months and they – she fell, and fell, and fell- she went to the ER nine times - they wouldn’t call me. Finally she broke her back and had to go to rehab.

There is a problem with nursing care being administrative and not hands on with the clients

My loved one had been there about a year, and overall they did a good job with her care. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and the aides are friendly. My loved one was totally independent and only needed meds passed and help with showers. Although I had asked for showers at least twice a week, I had to constantly ask the nurse to make sure the aids did this. Earlier this year we had an incident that was horribly handled. My loved one fell, and an xray was taken of her foot which didn't show anything. After that, the on-staff nurse did not get directly involved. Instead she acted in a more administrative role and let the aides give her feedback. My loved one kept complaining of pain in her ankle. The nurse did not ask for an order for an ankle xray. When family members called to check on the loved one, they were assured by the nurse that she was monitoring the situation. When a family member was able to look at the loved one's leg several days later, it was obvious her ankle was in fact dislocated and broken. The family member arranged for the loved one to be taken to the hospital where surgery was performed.

No community fee. Cost is $3425/mo. Nice rooms, but only studio apt. available at this time. Not much outside for residents. Question mark about staff.
