Review of University House Issaquah

University House offers a pleasant, friendly atmosphere where a couple can do as much or as little as one wishes. My most recent career was as an attorney for 35 years. My Corgie dog and I are pleased with the friendly support we receive. Highly recommended by both of us and my late wife of 63 years who passes away here 4 years ago.

Nice place, overall

Our experience with University House has been a positive one! The place is nice looking, well kept, and clean, and the staff have all been very friendly and professional. They are worth a look if you're looking into senior living in the area!

A great retirement choice.

Aljoya on Mercer Island is a beautiful facility located in the heart of town, especially convenient for seniors who like to walk to nearby shops, parks, and the waterfront. Our own restaurant and coffee area provide good service and opportunity for association with other residents and visitors, a welcome alternative to the lonesomeness that so often comes with aging. There is opportunity for singing, games, including boccie, swimming, exercise, and trips, It is great to not have to worry about the plumbing, maintenance, and other problems so common in most homes. (Even as I write this a plumbing problem is being fixed within a few hours of my report to the front desk.) I doubt that there are many if any better alternatives for retirement!

They're better than most

Unfortunately they aren't participating in activities because they aren't interested. My mother was very reluctant to move ther so she has been reluctant to do anything more than sit in her room and watch television, they are encouraging her to participate. My experience in general has been fairly good, I'm fighting someissues right now with their billing, their billing seems to be confused, but I'm in the process of getting that worked out. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with the staff because I don't know if it's them or their software but we'll find out. I think care is being handled adequately, I don't knwo that I would be getting better care anywhere else either, I've had a rather limited exposure to this type of facility. I have high standards and i'm not really happy with the value, I think they're significantly over priced, but that beign said, I don't know that we would get any better care anywhere else.

I like the facility, the activities, but the price is a bit much for what they are providing, though not out of the range. My concern is whether or not they can maintain this level of care. Friendly staff and personnel.

Best all around

After a long search and many places we had found the perfect place for my Mom. I rated cleanliness only a 4 star only because of a large center piece of furniture that is in the lobby in front of the entrance smells like an old attic. I am not sure if it has ever been professionally cleaned or not. But the rest of this establishment is quite clean and taken taken well care of. The setting is beautiful. I rated activities only a 4 also because in comparison to some other places they had less activities, but the other places do not have an inside swimming pool which made up for it. My Mom loves using the pool. The dining I feel was the best in comparison to the other establisments also. They have a wonderful chef there that really knows how to prepare the best tasting dishes. The layout of the 1 bedroom apartment was design in a better fashion than most that we looked at around the area.

Nice pleasant atmosphere

When you walk into the facility, there Is always a nice pleasant atmosphere. The front desk associates and the maintenance man are very friendly. My mother has not been there very long,(close to a month) and is still getting adjusted to the facility. She has been to the exercise class a few times and seems to enjoy that. There is a young man in the dining facility that is very nice, but my mother has mentioned that the service is slow and the food is not hot enough.

Good community just needed more care

Ida Culver is a good community we just needed a higher level of care that they offered. For individuals who can still find there way around and are mobile this would be a really good community. But if you need more care and are a fall risk then it wouldn't be the right fit.

Review for The Gardens at Town Square

The Gardens would work for people who want just an apartment building. The rooms are bright and well laid out, very clean hallways and public areas. I have to say after looking at so many places this was the best choice for my loved one.

Our Tour Experience

We thought the price was too much, especially considering it was an older, dated facility. It felt like the 80s and didn’t offer as much as other places we looked at. So the value wasn’t there. The people were really nice, and they promised they were going to update the facility. The rooms just felt closed in. We ended up elsewhere with higher ceilings and overall a newer, nicer, more inviting feel.

Not the worst, but not great.

Not the worst, but not great. They got a new director, and she really turned us off, she was quite aggressive. In the beginning we loved the staff, but they had a huge turnover. Elderly people don't do well with change. They aren't very accommodating. There was a lip in the shower that was difficult. They had a mini fridge, but it was on the floor in the closet. It's very old, and needs to be updated, and the newer half is pretty nice. There were only two times you could have dinner, and there were times that they ran out of food during the second dinner. The quality of the food also went way down. They would put on a great spread on like Mother's Day and family days, but that's not what the resident's ate on a regular basis.
