I would highly recommend The Gardens at Park Balboa. The staff is always so nice. I think my mom's only complaint is that she wishes the activities were more varied.

It was very nice. I like there cafeteria. In fact, I thought their cafeteria was outstanding. The place was very pretty but this was for a man, 80 years old, that really can't hear. He's got prefect vision but he just needed more care than I thought he would have been able to get here and he couldn't have negotiated himself with the layout of the place.

Just wasn't right for our loved one. We would like to see a better care giver to resident ratio. The community and the staff did a good job and took care of our loved one. They were friendly and helpful and we would recommend them to anyone.

My parents very much enjoyed the visit at this complex. We toured 4 apartments and had a great lunch. The Director is a wonderful person and my father was very impressed with her as well as the staff. I really think that her and her winning personality "sold" the Gardens at Park Balboa to my father. The facilities are dated, but everyone was so friendly including the residents that my father has decided to put down a deposit to secure an apartment. My mother is having so much difficulty navigating the stairs to their current apartment that my father wants to move as soon as possible.

just dropped in for second tour, friendly staff, rooms were brighter, nicer bathrooms, smaller dining room, noisy/busy street, parking for guests limited, bigger elevator

When I first started looking for a community for my Uncle I had choosen this community but my Uncle's care needs had begun to change and they did not have memory care at the time so we were not able to use their services. I would definitely recommend this community for their assisted living.

They are willing to talk with me regarding any issues that need to be discussed, though I often have to follow up myself as they are not as good as I would like regarding proactive feedback on issues we have discussed. Communication needs to be improved. They are very friendly though, and willing to do what they can to help. They just need better communication and follow-through.

The quality of care is uncertain. My mother fell in the middle of the night and it was unclear if they were responding to the call system. There were issues with medication management. My mother told me the quality of the food was the best part.

The staff is very friendly, but they tend to placate a lot. When asked to do something they smile and say they will, but I usually have to ask 2-3 times before it is done. The meals are good, my loved one likes the daily homemade soup. Family communication is good letting me know what's going on, but not when asked to do something. Housekeeping is not thorough and scheduling with them is erratic. The medication management is questionable. Once, I was there with my loved one in the dining room and the tech tried to give her someone else's medicine. Very concerning.

We placed our loved one here at a board and care home because they have Armenian speaking staff. It seems like a pretty good fit so far. You get what you pay for. They really need to hire more staff to help out though. I think it is a good place for those who have smaller budgets.

On the whole, it's positive. But I think you get what you pay for. The staff is not necessarily as friendly or as helpful as I would like them to be. And the building is older and a bit dilapidated. But it is affordable. So it's a mixed bag - but on the whole, positive.

I would encourage others to go someplace else. This community is very restricted with their own rules that you either have the vaccine or take a test every 7 days before seeing your loved one. The communication with the staff is fair. I would change the communication due to the telephone line because the line breaks up and you can hardly hear what the person is saying.

We toured this community for care for my sister. The staff seemed to be nice and were able to answer the questions that we had on the care that is offered. We did not get the feeling that we were looking for here. We would suggest that families your this community for the care of a loved one.

We toured this location when we were looking into care options for my loved one. The residents here all seemed very happy, and extremely active. When I visited I saw all sorts of people walking around interacting, there was a band playing, and a (very competitive!) bingo game going. I wasn't as impressed with the aesthetics of the place, the inside seemed shabby and worn down, and the carpets were in need of replacement. And, although the rooms were very spacious, they also just seemed worn down and gloomy.

This facility is nice. Will take mom to see when she arrives. Mom wasn't real keen on this community. Felt like a hotel.
