Not a safe place for seniors!!

My grandmother lives in the villas and she is so scared that she wants to move!! There is not enough lighting on the property, especially around the clubhouse, making it impossible to do anything in the evenings. [removed] No one in the "big house" seems to know what is going on out in the villa and if they do...they do not seem to care. We are looking for another place for her. Safety is our main concern.

Disappointed

When mom and dad first moved in, it was delightful. In 2 years, there have been 4 managers, 4 head nurses, and at least 5 chefs. Prices went up, service and food quality went down. Mom passed with out even so much as an I'm sorry for your loss. Very disgusted.

Worst Place.

I am deeply disappointed with our experience at The Barrington. My parents lived there together, and during an already devastating time, the lack of compassion and communication made everything far worse. When my father was placed on hospice, his final wish was to return home so he could pass away next to my mother. The Barrington refused to allow him back unless he was disconnected from the medical machine needed to drain fluid from his lungs. This decision forced my family into an impossible situation and caused my father immense suffering in his final days. No family should ever have to make a choice like that simply to allow loved ones to be together at the end of life. Just days after my father passed away, my mother suffered a fall and was taken to the hospital. She was cleared for discharge the same day, yet The Barrington refused to allow her to return, stating that she was now a “liability.” How do you treat someone like this.

Very disappointed

We never physically saw the facility. Our daughter did a tour and had on video phone. We were impressed with the facility so we decided to move there after the first of the year [date removed]. The representative that took care of us, [name removed] [name removed], was very helpful and considerate. He told us they were running a special in [date removed], if you signed up by [date removed], you would get 3rd and 10th months free. My wife, [name removed], had been in the hospital just before Christmas. We thought she would have a normal recovery and we thought we move in by end of January. This being said, they were very thoughtful by letting us have January free. So the last week of[date removed] we paid a community fee of $[fee removed]+ February's rent of $[fee removed]. This is where the trouble started. [name removed] recovery took longer and more complicated. I started having serious back issues so we came to the conclusion that neither of us was in any shape to be making a move of this magnitude. So we had given them $[fee removed] in December and it was now the end of February, so we had to give them March's rent ([fee removed]). In each March, [name removed]was diagnosed with colon cancer. I spoke again with [name removed] and explained all our issues. I asked him if could treat this as a move out. The problem with that was you have to give them 60 days notice. I asked if that could be waived due to our circumstances. He referred me to the general manager a lady named [name removed]. I asked her if they could waive the 60 day notice. She conferred with corporate and they agreed to waive the 60 day notice but we would have to pay March's rent of $[fee removed], which I unfortunately did. So now we have given them $[fee removed] They did agree to refund us the community fee of $[fee removed]. I then asked if they could refund the whole amount due to our circumstances. She said that we signed a legal contract and they could not refund the full amount. So that ends up to us having paid them $[fee removed] for absolutely nothing.

Terrible first impression

First, I must say that I run two businesses. I was looking forward to stopping by and checking out the facility. My mother is currently at an absolutely beautiful facility with EXCEPTIONAL staff, but we wanted her to be closer to our home. Upon arriving, I was greeted by two young small children standing at the desk. I had to speak up to ask for some help from an “adult.” I then had to ask if there’s anybody that could answer some basic questions. It seemed like a bother to the young person who came out to help me. Then, another woman came out who had brought the children to work and was unable to answer basic questions. I was told she was the office manager. She then said that she would try to see if the marketing director was available. I waited in a side room and upon entering the room, the “Marketing Director” was snide and rude. She asked me if “I had an appointment?” I could not believe my ears. I was walking in and was essentially about to give them business…..

Horrible place

The aids are rough and dehumanizing and will treat your loved one like an animal. My mom still lives here and looking to move her out. But where? All of these places are the same. I’ve complained to the head nurse about aids yelling at my mom, being rough, cursing, and all she did was blame my mom. My mom who can barely speak and walk.

Don't put your loved ones here

Do not move your parents or loved ones into this place. I just visited my grandma, and im gonna talk to my parents into moving her out of here. She was telling me how she loves the friends she's made and how the activities people are so much fun, but then she began to tell me how the front door has been broken since before Christmas, and that during that time it was extremely cold throughout the building. Apparently there is no heat. The building AC is constantly being worked on so it affects everyone's AC as well. This past week they shut the water off to the building and the electricity went out. She also told me the most disturbing story of someone dying during lunch one day, and the staff moving her body back to their apt. I dont know who is running this place, but jeez they need to be fired.

Glenbrooke Review

My second worst experience since selling my home and becoming an old lady who is homeless. Rent raised 12% with only 2 months notice over the holidays and health plan reviews. I loved it here. Perfect for me and my two little rescues. I don't think it is good to grow old in FL unless you are rich or have much family to help. Too bad because the staff who remained after sale of property are absolutely the very best and the living conditions are wonderful and the site incredible. But new management does not care. 90 year olds that have lived here for eons are now displaced. An 92 year old told me yesterday that she has about 2 years of funds left but perhaps she can die before then. She has no car and no family, living at Glenbrook for more than 10 years.

Bad Experience

To sum it up I wouldn't take my dog there. It was a terrible experience, I did my research and was advised was one of the better places in Fort Pierce. Up to a point it was decent, and unfortunately while mom was there it was not a good experience. The administrators are dishonest I believe. Took forever to get her pain medication and she ended up with multiple bed sores as she wasn't turned in her bed. Just a horrible experience all around, not recommended.

Not what was promised

My Grandmother has been there 3 months. We are pulling her out ASAP. No Easter Dinner was done for the Residents. My Grandmother cut her self and they didn’t have a Band-Aid to offer her. The van doesn’t work so she has missed important Dr appointments and relies on her elderly friends to do her grocery shopping. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and I was never notified. She was double charged for services and they literally nickel and dime everything. If you want to eat your meal in your room you have to pay for it. I understand the facility is under new management, however it was under the new management where they couldn’t provide a simple Band-Aid when my grandmother cut herself. I just never got that warm fuzzy feeling I should’ve got when placing my grandmother in their care.

Avoid Lake Forest

I ended up moving my loved one out of the community. The food is terrible. They don't do maintenance on the rooms. The staff don't respond to issues brought to their attention. If they can't do the little things, I don't trust them with my loved one. My loved one ordered a turkey sandwich and they ran out of turkey and brought the sandwich out with no turkey to my loved one anyway. This is an example. Two out of the seven weeks there was no housekeeper to clean my loved one's room.

The workers there are very helpful, I see some workers are over worked. I never see their boss to help them when they need help. The soup they have is left over soup, they have the same food most of the time. The other day I heard their boss yelling at another worker. In the dinning department they need more severs. They only do what they can. Their boss is never seen helping his severs out when they need help.

Absolutely Would Not Recommend for Onset Dementia

It was not a friendly place, staff or residents, and I felt they were very deceptive. When you walk up to the building, you see all these elderly women sitting on the porch staring off into space because they have dementia. Looking back, that was a big message that I should have observed. There was no one there for me to talk to because no one there was talking. At the time I was developing dementia, but since then I have gone to a neurologist and received treatment to stop the advancement of dementia. Currently trying to get out o f my contract with Lake Forest Park is miserable. I was unaware of the contact that I was signing because of my dementia at the time. Management is awful. Don't go here. I was so unhappy that I had to leave, and now they're charging my bank account every month. And I have no money to pay bills. Be very careful about moving in here. If you do not have deep dementia, do not go here. It's designed for people who can't manage themselves at all.

Place good if you are independent. Care is poor.

Don't be fooled by this place. It is nicely decorated, the food is good as well as the activities. There were some untrained CNA's who did not know our mother was on full time oxygen and consequently was left in her room without it. The overworked and few nurses made response time ridiculously long just to get a simple tylenol. Also it was a very long wait to get assistance to get her to the bathroom which sometimes resulted in accidents. A family member had to visit her everyday and we had to hire a private extra care person to insure our mother was eating, given her meds, and monitor the oxygen. At times we would find oxygen tanks left on only to empty out when not even in use. Also a oxygen tank was stolen out of her room. The patients medical profile on their computer was constantly not updated. This delayed her getting the correct meds and doses. Our mother had a DNR document in their system that was not followed properly. She was sent to the hospital before family was notified. If your loved one is mostly independent and needs low level of care, this place would be sufficient.
