Our family had an in person tour with Brickmont of Acworth and during the tour they said we would have to move our loved one into the community to get our questions answered and then hey raised the price.

Loved one is at Brickmont Johns Creek for several months now. The place is beautiful, well priced and well maintained; however, the care is substandard. They just do not provide the care we are paying for. Laundry does not get done weekly. Management is unresponsive to emails and follow up to complaints. They are supposed to assist with dressing and showers, but when I visit, my loved one has on dirty clothes and denies having had a shower. They loose clothes and clothes of other people show up in the closet. I have been struggling to have my concerns addressed. The caregivers are often seen chatting in the halls, talking on phones or surfing on phones and are ignoring resident calls for assistance - the call alarms go off constantly. I have even pushed emergency call for loved one and it took caregiver 30 minutes to show up. This is not what we are paying for.

Skipped meals and dining rating because food was excellent 5/5, but dining room atmosphere is terrible 1/5. The community sales director is wonderful and energetic. The community is pristine. The food is excellent. The executive director is focused more on the overall look of the facility to the detriment of the residents. The care is administered in a boot camp mentality and the residents are getting yelled at everyday for not being able to help themselves. Sometimes residents have to wait in excess of 2 hours for a caregiver to respond to the call button. My mom was told that her name was on a "list of people we aren't allowed to help." She routinely had to wait over an hour after each meal for the caregivers to completely clean and reset the dining room before someone could assist her in returning to her room. She was miserable and has already moved out of the facility.

[name removed] on the dayshift was wonderful with my loved one. But it got bad on the night shift. They didn't seem to know how or try to divert him when he would get upset. I would rate dayshift staff a 4 and nightshift staff a 1.

On paper Brickmont Acworth is a great value and show be a good home. In reality there are a lot of issues. Services are sporadic, meals are mishandled and a huge sore spot for the residents. Activities are listed but really non existent. Turnover of residents appears high and my dad is not happy. He is sticking with it right now because the cost is good and he is hoping things will improve. But if not he will be moving.

My mother has lived at The Claiborne for a little over a year now. The floor plans and facility are quite nice as to be expected for a new building. However, the quality of service, ESPECIALLY dining, has consistently declined. I cannot count the number of times the staff in the kitchen has quit, and they are not provided with decent ingredients when they are there. The latest staff quit again yesterday and the solution provided for dinner was to serve Little Caesars pizza. It’s one thing to have to resort to ordering pizza at the rates the residents pay, but even worse to get probably the lowest quality pizza available on top of that. The cleaning service is as inconsistent as the dining and you never know if they will even show up. Residents were promised door front trash pick up at move in and now must carry it to end of hall bins and management tried to make them take it all the way down and out to the dumpster at one point. I am extremely disappointed at the decline of service

At first I fell in love with the community. The location was perfect, and the facility was fantastic. But I was not pleased with how they handled my loved one's behavioral issues upon move-in. And I had to move her out pretty much immediately. Listening to them, I fell for all of it. I think they probably are a great place, but I don't think they can handle certain dementia-related issues. The director was fantastic, as well as the main nurse. But since then I've heard they've had some turnover. They were helpful in finding a place for my loved one to go, but they just couldn't handle her needs.

Due to the covid restrictions we were not able to get inside the community to see how clean it was but the exterior was very clean. They also still put in a really good effort to keep the activities going which was nice, our only problem we ran into is that in the beginning they did not assess our loved one correctly.

We were disappointed in how run down this community appeared to be, the staff member that did our tour did a nice job showing us around and answering our questions but we did not feel that this would be a good fit for our mother at all.

What started off as pleasant turned into a nightmare of incompetence and apathy. We put my mother into the Avaline memory care in [Date Removed] Everything was pleasant and attentive. But the parent company, Claiborne, started cutting heads around the end of December. Most, if not all, of the people we initially dealt with are no longer there. The current management is well below average in everything that matters. We were in the memory care section. I complained mold on the ceiling for a month. They patched the ceiling once but did not fix the leak so it came back with the first rain. The overnight staff in memory care is the bottom of the barrel. They've got a night nurse that sleeps through her shift and workers known to take things out of rooms. But management largely turns a blind eye to these things. And the night shift workers are given free reign to do whatever they want because the night LPN is asleep. You don't pay for the building. You pay for care. Non-existent at The Avaline

Residents’ rooms and bathrooms are rarely cleaned. Activities are minimal, and there appears to be little effort to engage residents in meaningful ways. Meals are comparable to lunchables in both quality and quantity, frequently served in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Most alarming is the medication management which has no formal process for administering new medications: no written authorization, no signed consent, and no notification to family members. One resident was given a drug intended to induce sleep (which carries a black box warning for memory care patients) without family authorization. There is also a troubling lack of respect for residents’ personal belongings. Laundry is returned without regard for labeled names and is often wadded up in dresser drawers. Personal items regularly go missing from residents’ rooms. In one particularly disturbing instance, items were taken from a resident’s room just hours before her death.

My mother has lived here for just over a year and is miserable. There is huge turnover in staff, the food is almost inedible and they sometimes don't respond to the lifeline button. The Executive Director is in way over her head. If I could easily move her, I would.
