Certus Senior Living

So far so good! My wife was living at another community that I won't name and we were deeply unhappy. After CERTUS opened up, we loved what we could see and that they are designed just for dementia and Alzheimer's. Since moving in, my wife is doing as well as can be considering she has Alzheimer's. We are very happy with the staff and care she receives.

Cleanliness of the facility: 54??, The lobby and offices, as well as the town center is always spotless. They could do a better job in the bedrooms. Friendliness: 5??, 99% of the staff are incredibly nice and very thoughtful. Quality of care: 4??, I never really worry about the care they provide. Administrative staff: Maybe 4.5??, everybody's very nice. Most things are taken care of quickly, but some things do fall through the cracks. The previous Wellness Director let a lot of things slip through the cracks. She rarely retired emails and was spotty on texts. Housekeeping is one of the biggest issues. Sheets are not changed enough and they do not put the bed back together correctly most times. Laundry can be slow to be picked up & even more so when it should be returned. My biggest concern is the med cart and getting a phone call or text at the very last minute that my family member is out of something (not getting low on something, but completely out of something) & that can be incredibly frustrating! Sadly, this happens way too many times. The front desk receptionist, [name removed], is amazing and wonderful! She is the glue & the gatekeeper with a heart of gold. After doing a lot of research on different Memory Care options, this was by far my number one option. The fact that there is so much science that goes behind so many things that they do and the choices they make, made a lot of sense.

When you are looking for memory care, a lot of places tell you that they specialize in it and that is not the case. CERTUS truly specialize in that type of care, everything is catered to the residents and they are always doing studies to make things better for them. If you have loved one who needs memory care, this is the place to go, it is the best that I have seen.

I think this is a great community. My loved one is happy here. I think this is a good place for my loved one as well. Recently there has been a breakdown in communication with the community and the family. Overall I am still impressed with the staff and the community.

Communication with staff is difficult so that could definitely be improved. The facility is great though and very well adapted for people with dementia. They have a support and education program that is fantastic. We come together monthly with other families who have family members in the facility. It's a great opportunity to learn from each other since our loved ones are all at different stages of the disease.

Good design and much room for people. Living rooms, activity center, open area with tables for games, coloring, special events, couches by windows, place to shoot basketballs, Large screen TVs, outdoor court yards, little alcoves for sitting or watching TV, open space, not at all claustrophobic like some places I've seen. The the caregivers are very good, kind, helpful. The rooms are ample in size butost people do not stay in them during the day, but do other things like the activitiesor move around. Really a nice place. Not perfect, as no place is, but really quite good.

I feel comfortable she is being looked after but since my view is just maybe an hour a week, it is a small view. [name removed] is a very well to do woman and I'm pretty sure her care isn't what she was used to. On the other hand her mental condition may make that moot. I have no comparison reference. So Certus may be far better than average. Communication from the staff is poorly.

My mom wasn't at Certus very long when her POA and Health POA (not her daughters), chose to move her to a different facility---an Assisted living facility with a memory care unit which is where she was placed. I was distraught over their decision. In my opinion, I view a memory care unit within an Assisted living facility a back hallway warehouse---a place for your loved one to go to die! And that's exactly what happened! I would highly recommend a family looking for a memory care facility to take a hard look at a place like Certus---a facility dedicated to memory care. The concept of Certus is science based. Main Floor living allowing the residents to move about freely. No stairs. Coordinator was informative, helpful and supportive. Nurse was the same and kept family members informed. Facility was clean. Activities available and residents encouraged to attend. Friendly receptionist. Food was average Often difficult to reach resident on the facility phone. Thanks for your help on the front end of this journey and on the backend. I know you'll use these comments to help other families do research for their family members.

Certus at Mount Dora was a beautiful place for our parents. They worked with us financially and with their Hospice care. Unfortunately, their stay was cut short due to declining health. Our biggest challenge was the food and frequency of falls. They did not care for the food. However, our father entered Certus overweight and taking insulin shots. He lost a large amount of weight and did not need insulin. Our mom was kept clean and beautiful. She was on oxygen and wheelchair bound, that was heartbreaking. So often she was seen not using her oxygen. The portable unit quit working and she never got another one. We requested another working unit. Not sure why she never received one. Her health declined more rapidly afterwards. Both parents have passed away.

It's a tuff business! There were some issues with the amount of paperwork. All business is having help issues and turn over. It's always the sales pitch to get the beds filled. Over all everything went well. There probably wouldn't have been a better place. Plus it was a good size. She had several falls. There is always room for improvement.

My family and loved one had a good experience with Certus. The community is small and this was one of the reasons we choose Certus for our loved one. The staff have been great with every concern from the family and our loved one. Overall, this is a community we would recommend to others.

It's a good place. It's a memory care facility. It's easy to get to, and very close. The staff is very friendly. The food is good. They offer soup, an entree, and dessert. It's nice and balanced. My loved one gets a lot of attention. Everyone has been great. The place is very beautiful, it does not look like assisted living. They have a lot of memory activities daily, and my loved one goes to most of them.

Some of my loved ones things have turned up missing, and they are not always well shaved. We picked this community because, one community was unacceptable, and the other was ok but had too many add-on which would raise the cost per month. In speaking with Certus I felt it was the best solution overall and I still feel that way even with all the issues I mentioned before. Communication with families needs to improve.

I believe this is a beautiful community. They take great care in training their staff. It can be a difficult transition for the family and the loved one in moving into the community. They are good at supporting the family and our loved one during this transition. The community was able to assist us when things have popped up and handled it very well. It has been a good experience for us overall. Medication management is able to be handled by the community for our loved one. The community is able to be completly secure for the residents to roam the hallways. There is even a secured courtyard for my loved one to get fresh air. There are lots of activities for the residents to partake in. All the meals, housekeeping, linen changes, laundry, utilities, and the room are included in the monthly price. My loved one enjoys the food. The community does keep track to make sure the residents get the needed calories each day.

They are helpful and caring, it is important to have a good staff to resident ratio. The facility is very nice. Good size rooms and bathrooms. Lots of light. They need to increase staff to resident ratio.

Our family had an in-person tour and it was just not the first impression from the start so we knew it was not going to be the place for our loved one.

We had our own caretakers stay with our loved one. Thank god we did. They never answered call buttons for help. Didn't do anything they promised to do like wash our loved one x times per week, come get him for meals and check on him. We found staff sleeping on the sofa at night. We had to fight to get some if our money back when we pulled him out. There is much need for improvement.
