Educate yourself on real capabilities of the facilities regardless of sales pitch

While [name removed] will promise to let your loved ones age in place as a selling point on the front end, ultimately it's not her call and is up to head of nursing how long they stay and when they go. Deceptive sales. Other than that, pretty good place.

The staff is not trained well, and the leadership is more concerned with money vs patient care. They are not equipped to handle memory care patientence but they say they do. They basically lack professionlism, they are not able to deescalate situations among the residence.

Cadence Marietta

My father transferred from a new community near by to Cadence Marietta. Cadence also a lot closer to the hospital he was assigned to less than five minutes away, which was a huge benefit. We never saw any issues with the community's cleanliness. The issue here was with the staffing because there was not enough well trained staff. After 5 o'clock and at night, the staff gives much lower quality care. We think this is because they didn't have the budget to pay better people because they were paying so much to keep the building looking nice. During the day the staff is great. They are very friendly, accommodating, and responsive to visitors and families. After the day staff is gone, families are still allowed to come in 24 hours a day, it is much different. For one thing, it is very dark in the parking lot because some of the lights are out and they have not changed them after repeated requests for them to do so. We feel that at night, there isn't enough attention given to the residents by well trained aids. The meals were excellent. There is definitely someone in the kitchen who cares about the presentation for the residents because the food was great. The dinning room is like a home. We would eat there often as a family and we always enjoyed that. My dad didn't often participate in the activities, but there was definitely an effort to organize things for them to do often.

Cost Beyond Our Reach

It's still a nice place, but the costs are at least doubling on Jan. 1. It will be more if one needs more help. What we liked about Elmcroft was that all care was inclusive, but the facility was sold, and now the costs are sky-rocketing.

Look around especially if your loved one needs assistance

Our family was new to the concept of assisted living when we started with Elmcroft. There are friendly staff here and they do care about the residents. The facility itself is also nice. However, they are understaffed and promise to do more than they are really able to do. There were significant gaps in care. Accounting was never consistent and often a process of rechecking bills to verify their accuracy. This process itself was scattered and not consistent. After leaving this facility our family member stated over and over again that they didn't want to return due to not feeling properly cared for with medication and supervision.

Not Even Doing The Basics

It has been a few months and I have noticed they are not providing the basic care for my love one. In the beginning I asked what I needed and they said they were able to do it all. Now I am exhausted making sure they do as they are suppose to. The director has a great personality and ensures things will improve but they it don't last. They have a mixture of good and unprofessional workers. To improve they can screen their employees better

promises made but n ot kept

We put mom here in July. Told the staff about mom's dementia. They said they could handle mom with a little prompting. We were paying the lowest rate $71 per day. In October we were contacted and a meeting was scheduled. We thought they would probably want to increase her rate to the next level. We were told after they said they could handle mom and only 3 mos there we were asked to leave. Told us they were not a memory care place. The move in was tough on all of us but the move out has been very inconvenient. Be very aware of promises made and promises kept.

Care was not appropriate

We ended up not having a good experience here and moving my loved one out. The level of care was not appropriate. When we were touring they made it sound like the care they provided in assisted living would have been sufficient for my loved one, but it was not. The facility itself was clean, and the staff were friendly, but be sure the level of care if appropriate for your loved one.

We had a terrible experience here. They are understaffed. Level 4 patients get no care. My dad suffered falls 5 times during a span of 2 months. They were required to check on him every 2 hours with level 4 care. When we came and visited him each day no one showed up to care for him. They would leave him in the cafeteria alone for hours while people went back to their rooms because they were short staffed. Hardly any showers/baths. He was left in his own urine daily. I mean hours upon hours of urine. His diaper and wheelchair would be soaked. We were not the only clients to have their loved ones not well cared for here. At least 2 other people had experiences like we did.

Everything That Looks Good, Isn't Good

The staff are friendly when they want to get your resident into the community. Once your loved one is in, the community doesn't care. There are residents dying there, and there are residents being transferred out to other communities. My loved one has fallen several times and my loved one laid on the floor for a few hours because the call button didn't work. The community stated that the call system went out and they are bring a new system in for the residents to use. There have been COVID breakouts over the last couple of months. When this happens, they place the residents on lock down and they aren't able to come out of their rooms. There isn't enough staff to care for the residents, properly. I feel there is some prejudice going on in the community. My loved one was discriminated against and the staff member that brought it to my attention and the director's attention was fired for bringing this to the forefront. The community doesn't have a proper dining room and no proper meals either. The residents are receiving cheese sandwiches for meals for example.

Incompetent

They don't have many activities. I wouldn't recommend Carriage Crossing to others for their loved ones. I don't care for the community as the staff doesn't listen to the concerns of the family. They don't answer questions that I have about my loved one. I feel like they didn't truly understand what is causing some issues with my loved one.

My review of Cadence

We did not have a good experience at Cadence Marietta. While we were here they changed personnel many times. There was one night we went to visit and my loved one was at the table waiting to get served and was never served so the front desk lady had to bring the meal to the room. My loved one was very sick at one point and they never communicated it with me or went to check on him. They also had major issues with the AC going out during the summer time.

My families experience

Some of the staff members were great, and somewhere not that great. Our experience with Cadence Assisted Living at first was great, but then they really started to mislead us. The communication was great, but then all of a sudden everything went quiet. Due to the extremely high level of medication that gave our loved one, they called us saying she needed a higher level of care then what she initially needed. We were disappointed in them at that moment. The workers themselves were great, but after that experience that was caused by them, the staff administration became less accommodating and less helpful.

Beware

My mother was here for several months, with many MANY scares occurring. One thing I observed more than once was her unsupervised, eating 2 and 3 slices of pie with her fingers even though she’s on a 1500 calorie a day diet. Also, almost every time I came to visit, my mother didn’t have her cane (ultimately falling a couple weeks ago) and they never called an ambulance or asked the doctor for an X-ray of any kind. The nurse on duty didn’t even know which one of my mothers knees was fake, and didn’t bother to inspect the injury before calling me. She simply stated Your mother fell and I think her knee is possibly out of place. I can tell through her jeans that it looks lop sided but I’m not sure. She then asked which knee had been replaced. Just wow. How do you not know? My mother LIVES THERE. Another tragedy. My mother has vascular dementia and MUST wear her Cpap at night because without it, the next day her mind is that of a small child that has outbursts. Her cpap averaged 3-4 hours a night which was PROOF that she wasn’t getting enough oxygen to her brain and PROOF that they weren’t placing it properly or checking on it regularly. Instead of fixing this very simple problem, the facility went behind the family’s back and asked the doctor for my mother to be given a sedative for her “behaviors” (medication that we as a family already declined a month prior to this). So rather than do their job and make sure she wears her mask properly at night, they wanted to drug her. Also, they lost her prosthetic breast more than once, several pairs of glasses, and countless amounts of clothes and jewelry. Yet every time we would ask about these items or ask why my mom didn’t have her cane, workers (particularly [name removed]) would blame my mother for losing or forgetting things, which is completely ludicrous since my mother can’t be held responsible for these items hence the reason YOU as a facility are getting paid $4000 a month to care for her. Another major issue is they contract their nurses for a few days at a time, so the nurses aren’t employed by life’s journey. For this reason the nurses never get to know the patients, and this came straight from a nurses mouth. Also, most of the staff here are not CNA’s, they are “resident specialists” who have NOT had the proper training at all (and again, this information came from a nurse). The day we moved my mother out last week, one of the cna’s actually apologized to me on behalf of life’s journey and on behalf of [name removed], who was more than rude every time she blamed my mother for something and showed no bedside manner. To top it all off I found out that their DON walked out as well because of the mess that is going on. The straw that broke the camels back for us was that last week my mother swallowed finger nail polish remover, and rather than call poison control they called her doctor (who was already on a log to call back for something else and was extremely busy). Well 45 minutes after I got the call that she swallowed the remover, while I was on my way there (because I live an hour away), I called to speak to [name removed] (director) to see if the doctor called back. He was very flat and almost irritated, and stated that they were still waiting on a call back. I said “Well in a situation like this you should call poison control”. He simply said he’d look into it, and got off of the phone. We moved my mom out of that place that night. During that time I heard 4 stories about what supposedly happened with the finger nail polish remover, but I do know she drank it because someone finally came clean and said they saw her drink it, and that my mom was saying that her throat burned. This is a long post but it is truly just a few of many MANY incidents that happened at Life’s Journey. Please, PLEASE do not bring your loved ones here. The good news is that my mother has not had ONE “behavior” since she left! My mother is one of the lucky ones that made it out. I feel sorry for anyone that is still stuck there and their family who mistakenly (just like us) trusted these people.

Don't waste you time

Elmcroft is a beautiful and well maintained facility. If only the staff lived up to the appearance and promises it would be the place all seniors dreamed of. When we first visited the community we were very impressed. We were told there would be a four minute response time to a signal for assistance, at seven minutes the call would go to the supervisor. The usual wait time was between 15 and 45 minutes. Housekeeping did a great job, just did not come often enough. At one point the bed was not changed in two weeks and had to ask a family member to do it. Laundry was done for the residents once a week. Clothes came back clean and folded. Only problem not everything was returned. The people that work their seemed to have no compassion. It was all a matter of getting in and out of your room as quickly as possible. In all fairness they're are severely overworked. The same people that care for the residence also have to serve the meals and clean the dining room so don't expect help after any meal. In conclusion I would no recommend Elmcroft to anyone as a place for their family member. The caring and compassion is just not to be found with a few exceptions.

I am not happy with the care that my friend is getting at this community. The staff are not taking her our of her room. The community is not as clean as it could be. There seems to be a lack of communication with the staff. I was able to speak with someone who was respectful, but she acted like she did not know what was going on. They have offered her activies, but she does not want to partivipate. I suggest other familes consider the care that is given here and take a tour for the care.

Keep Looking I Beg!

Keep looking! Three directors in 5 months!! Disorganized, slow, the staff has NO leadership they are just floundering. Some staff are good and some are completely ignorant. My Mom has been told she is NOT allowed to lock her door because her roommate loses her key!! Totally against the law. My Mom fell twice in her room and it took staff over 30 minutes for a staff member respond!! Meds are another issue, good luck!! As one reviewer stated the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing!!! Very fragmented!! I wish I never heard of Elmcroft!!! You may regret going there too.

Whats in the ceiling?

Dont let that big beautiful chandelier fool you people, its not what you think. We got Mom in the most expensive room to decorate like her home since she had been down home burning down and rebuild then lost her son in law at TG and oldest son at Xmas and dementia set in. All fine till leak in ceiling that had bucket under it for weeks. Later noticed mold in ceiling and came back to see it was painted over. Trying to move her out of that mold in ceiling room, i was offered another on opposite hall where admin was, only to have her load towels on floor from shower leak and ants that I , a senior RN,had to take about 70Lbs. Never addressed the young AA mgr took responsibility for ball dropped and it WAS hers. At $3700 mo. I came to do all her care daily, it included none. When finally i gave 30 days notice to move her out , i went to biller and asked if paid up so could lv few days early, these people to this day is still billing for those few remaining days after sure its long been written off on taxes. I ran a successful , hold ALL accountable facility for yrs now a retired senior myself, i could have posted these mold In the ceiling and the paint over pictures all over the internet. Who knew yrs later during a pandemic they would try to get blood from a turnip . SMH. Get an experienced, mature, hold your people accountable facility manager! She now has mold related sinus and coughing issues!,
