very nice and helpful

Overall our experience with Orchard Park has been very good. The staff that is there are all very nice and really helpful. I do think that I do think they could have more staff. The staff they have are all great, but they just don't seem to have enough. They could also stand to have better activities. Other than that everything has been great.

Friendly, accommodating staff

Overall I think they do a good job at Atria Hillsdale. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and the staff here seem friendly and professional. We did have a few issues when we moved our loved one in, but the people here are very accommodating and if you bring an issue to their attention they try to resolve it if at all possible.

good overall

I had my mother on the waiting list for Pacifica Senior Living of Bakersfield since last November. In early April she fell and broke her hip while we were still on the waiting list. A bedroom then became open, and they were fantastic at accommodating her and getting her moved in. At first she was moved in to the memory care facility as that was the only room they had available. She has since moved to the other side and there are some challenges with some of the staff there. I am trusting that it will work out in time.

The residents are friendly

My mother lives here at the Orchard Park facility. I really liked the residents. They were very friendly and kind. They are welcoming. I think there has been some changes because things that need to be done aren't getting done. Overall, Orchard Park is a nice facility. For the money, I think it's a good value. My overall rating of this property is 4 stars. It is a pretty good facility. The staff has been pleasant.

I have only visited/toured this community once, but my first impression was that it is a great value. My overall rating of this property is 4 stars. I rated the cleanliness 4 stars, the Care Services 4 stars, the friendliness 4 stars, and activities 4 stars. I rated the Value 5 stars because It is not expensive and you get a great community for a reasonable price. My tour was a good experience and I do not have anything bad to say about it.

New resident

My mother has only been living at Atria for a little over a month. The adjustment has been difficult for her as she really did not want to leave her home of nearly 60 years. But the staff at Atria has been very kind and very considerate of her, and has gone the distance to include her in activities and introduce her to her fellow residents. The only criticism I have would be about the activities. I think Atria would do better to have a set of activities that are more active. As an example, the weekly schedule lists "flower arranging", something my mother did actively. Atria's definition of flower arranging is putting one blossom and a few stems of greenery in bud vases that are set on the dining room tables. For someone who was anticipating true flower arranging, this was a huge disappointment.

really nice

The staff at Orchard Park are all really nice, and always willing to do anything they can to help. I do feel that they could step up their game a little bit on some house cleaning things, and also on their response time when the buzzer is pushed for help. Overall though we are very pleased. It is a really good facility and I would recommend Orchard Park.

Don't even think about it

The staff is very friendly but they have various shifts of people that cycle from one area to the next. So there isn't a lot of continuity. No real "go to" person. In the beginning the laundry started piling up, but they finally got him on the whole laundry routine. I'm not sure that the dentures are being cleaned. ---addendum to original review: Dad mysteriously broke his hip, screaming in pain one morning. The staff called me to ask what I wanted to do. Why didn't they know they should call 911? They wouldn't let him return to Atria after hospital stay because he was now in a wheelchair. They never called me -- even though I was the main contact. I learned from the hospital that Atria wouldn't take Dad back. Dad also had a wicked case of Scabies caught at Atria. They tried to dismiss the problem at first saying they had issues with laundry. Problem is that the aides are technically not allowed to apply the scabies medicine (insecticide) to the residents as licensing doesn't permit it (I was told). So if your loved one contacts scabies or needs ear wax removal medicine placed in his ears at least once a day, plan on taking time off from your job to do it yourself. Also it was impossible to get a pedicure for my Dad's wicked-looking feet even though they kept bragging about their spa service. I felt that the memory loss residents were 2nd class citizens there. Amenities were focused on "normal" people.

So cheerful!

I think it’s a wonderful community. One bright and cheery even in the memory care, a lot of the places we looked at were not as bright in the memory, but my loved has a bright and cheerful. My dad thinks it’s really good quality food. The staff is very, very nice. It’s the nicest and the best. There are always going to be issues and we are finding some issues, but nothing that is threating my mother’s care. There’s a lot of staff changing. My mom’s care is very good. I think people find this community very cheerful.

It’s a lovely setting

They’ve all been good except for one. My loved one doesn’t really participate in activities. When first was looking at it – I was impressed by how friendly and open the person who showed me around was and how the other people seemed to be willing to talk to me. The staff whenever we’ve had a problem they’re very willing to help find a solution, and for the most part very open to our concerns. I’m not impressed, but my loved one seems to like it. It’s a lovely setting and the courtyard is very nice, where people can sit and enjoy the sun.

Great!

They are great, fantastic! The best thing is that their staff is friendly and caring, but there have been a couple hidden costs that I didn't know about going into it, so that's the downside. They have a variety of activities, family events and crafts and that type of thing. They have memory care, and that's where he's at now.

I looked at this place but it was too far from home. I was close but not close enough to where I could run up on the way back from home and also run errands and things. I seemed like a very nice place. It was good but it's a matter of what you're looking for and I needed something closer.

Dementia Care

My parents were there and that was good for a period of time and then when my father's dementia got worse. The problem was not so much the caregiving but the difficulty of the situation. The cleanliness was very good. There were activities available and dementia ones. My father didn't participate but they brought them to musical events with in the larger community. They had partitioned off the dementia care but they would try to bring them in for any activities in the community. They were very inclusive that way.

Good Community

They are currently doing some upgrading and remodeling so you will have to look beyond that right now. They were the best price for what they had to offer. We went to visit it after A Place for Mom recommended it and we liked it. It was within out budget and was a smaller community. With it being smaller it provides a more home like feeling and does not feel overwhelming for our loved one. We are very pleased with them and would recommend them to anyone.
