The staff is caring, competent, and takes their jobs seriously

Make safety first. Always have the call need near the patient. If a patient has a need address it but look around and see if you there is something else the patient needs. Only leave for an emergency in another patient room. Understaffed. Like every other place, but a call light shouldn't go unchecked for an hour. Also they need to be sure and leave a way for the residents to contact staff. The staff is caring, competent, and takes their jobs seriously. They treat their patients like they were caring for their own family.

Beware!!!

It was a clean facility. It was good in the beginning but things changed towards the end. It was more expensive. We picked because it was close to my job. I'm giving these numbers because it was the first place, it was a very tough decion putting my loved one here, and I don't feel like they were as compassionate with how I felt. I did not feel comfortable with my loved one being here.

Improvement in Communication Needed

I haven't given them high marks in some of the categories, but I also acknowledge that my family members and I may need to adjust our expectations when it comes to long-term care. Like any facility, some of the caregivers do a good job. That said, my biggest "complaint" is that they have not done a good job of communicating with us. I tried to contact the director of nursing several times to schedule an initial care- plan meeting. She didn't return our calls or get back with us when she said she would. By the time we met, our loved one had been at Kesslerwood for a while! I consider that unacceptable. When we finally met and went over our loved one's care plan, she was prepared and did a good job. I'd also say the staff hasn't done the best job communicating with us about our loved one's medications. Times when our loved one has fallen or had other issues, they've been prompt in making us aware of the situation. But when it's involved changing/increasing our loved one's medications, they haven't kept us well informed.

Not a good experience

The response time from staff is very slow- even when I visit, I have to track them down. They were neglectful with the medication administration. They were not forthcoming about injuries received from an aide. Thankfully the hospice nurse was very informing, otherwise we wouldn't know anything.

We didn’t really care for Bloom at German Church. The staff and everything was fine. We just didn’t care for the set-up. Outdoors, right out front, there’s a pond with geese that frequent it, and consequently there's lots of goose poop.

The tour itself was great. But their community was significantly less active than the place we chose There was no one walking around, and no one in the eating area. It was just very empty. And it did not sell my loved one on making the move to assisted living.

During the week is pretty good, but the care crew on the weekends was subpar. Appearance-wise, it seemed to be clean and a good facility for as small as it was. Cost was a main reason why we left. They got us in at one rate, and then bumped us up a care level as soon as we moved our loved one in.

Overall a good community!

Our experience with this community was good until COVID since we weren't able to visit our loved one. The staff members were very good. Our loved one enjoyed the bible study. We would recommend this community to a family or friend.

I had a good tour of this community. It is a nice place. From what I saw the community looked great, and everything appeared to be well maintained. The staff I met was kind and friendly. It was a good experience, but it wasn't the place for my mother and her needs.

My Stay at Bloom in Bossier City, La.

Having been in the hospitality industry for many years, I must say the the menu planning, presentation and service were not up to par. Meals are something that these folks who live there permanently look forward to, but they kingda don't. The wate staff needs to be retrained. The chef need more large party training. The service staff for the most part are pleasant. However, their ability to serve a large dining room is limited by lack of training. The Bloom just took over this property, which was half filled. The facility is now almost fully rented and the larger dining crowd seems daunting to them. The whole dining room experience needs to be improved. The cleanliness in the public areas seems to be fine. The activity young lady is quite good and is open to new ideas.

Nice place overall, with room for improvement

This is a nice looking community overall, and the care staff are friendly and professional. We're generally satisfied with the service, but I would like to see them improve in a few areas. First and foremost I feel the communication is somewhat lacking. Whenever I write them an email instead of responding to me directly they try and relay the information through my loved one, which does not always make it back to me. I'm often out of the loop. They also could use a bit of work on their activities, my loved one says they do not have many and that the participation is low. My loved ones biggest complaint is the food, which is generally just not impressive, and she says the portions are small.

Terrible food!

The staff changes frequently. They are caring... But, the food is terrible! Enlivent corporation, the parent company will not authorize healthy options. They serve the same cheap unhealthy meals over & over again. The clients complain all the time & nothing changes.

I was not to thrilled with how the set up was at this property. I thought that everything was very small and compacted. The floor plan also was a little awkward, how they had the bedrooms, common areas, and dinning room was not impressive. It just was not the right fit for my mother.

Dangerously understaffed

Sometimes only ONE caregiver per floor. Not possible for safety, let alone care; especially on the Memory Care (dementia) floor. No apparent interest in raising staffing ratio. Most of the new hires are not interested in patient care, & the (mostly exceptional) older hires are becoming rapidly disenchanted. Other issues I won't go into, as they just took over recently, & need time to address.
