Avanti Senior Living

Avanti Senior Living at Flower Mount is a wonderful place. My mother-in-law has been living there comfortably for more than one year. Her apartment is lovely and clean. The staff is caring and kind. Her needs are met beautifully and she has been very happy there. The most important aspect of life there is that they were very careful to protect the health and safety of the residents during the pandemic. My mother-in-law did not contract COVID because of the rules put in place at Avanti. This was remarkable particularly as Dallas was hard-hit by the pandemic. My husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and I are most grateful for this. The cuisine needs improvement but they are always working on that. Fun activities are available if the resident chooses to participate.

I wish I had better things to say about Avanti. At first glance I was wowed by how beautiful, new, and clean this facility is. But I quickly learned you can’t judge a book by its cover. What pains me most about not giving a high review is that the majority of the staff members are wonderful! However, they were severely understaffed. This resulted in many falls for my father. He spent way too many hours in a wet diaper causing chronic UTI’s and skin sores. He didn’t receive frequent showers as promised. I had to take his clothes home and wash them myself or they would just pile up smelling of urine. The food was terrible! They were being fed sandwiches and soup more often than not. If not that it was usually frozen foods. There were no activities for the memory care residents to partake in. They were left unstimulated and often frustrated. Communication was poor between caregiver shifts, the med tech, and nurses. Many miscommunications regarding meds and care instructions occurred.

I probably would not make Avanti my choice in the future. A lot of things are promised, but not delivered. I would definitely check other facilities out first.

People are generally nice and appear happy. Food was good as I remember. I think there needs to be a better variety of activities and more rigorous PE sessions. Not higher intensity just more priority

The staff, for the most part, is great! There has been a lot of turnover, so the new staff is constantly trying to learn protocol and resident needs. Their attitudes are excellent though. It is a hard job, and they give their best. They could make more fresh food instead of instant. Example eggs, mashed potatoes. Less canned vegetables, more fresh.

Overall I was not happy with our experience, the community was clicky, and we experienced my moms deliveries were misplaced often. The community was very clean and beautiful. The staff was always friendly. I was concerned with the med tech. She was disoriented one time I met with her due to headaches. She said they happen sometimes, and refused to go home. Even though she could barely function. Also she gave my mom a wrong pill once, in which my mom refused to take it. My mom was not happy with the food. The only activities I witnessed were exercise classes, a wine social, and trivia. When I first got to the community they were so excited to tell me about this masquerade party they were going to throw. It was one of the reasons I signed, how fun for the residents to get events and activities like that! Come to find out the residents weren't invited at all, my mom had to watch the staff have a great time and couldn't go, she was very disappointed. I also had difficulties having them send the paperwork to the insurance company. I had to come out of pocket for months until it go cleared up. Also it took weeks for them to send in maintenance to help my mom get her tv and internet set up. I had to put in like 4 requests.

The staff is very nice and willing to help. They just need more of it and less turnover so that the residents KNOW their care givers. Housekeeping has been better, there has been a turnover and the housekeeping has suffered. Laundry not done and items lost, trash not emptied. Communication with the family is nice with the caregivers, but nonexistent with the higher ups, ie, the director, the medical coordinator the fitness instructor. The food is good. And delivered on a timely manner to your room, although if you eat in the dining room you will WAIT. Again, it is not staffed well enough. I would recommend the place, just be very mindful of what is going on.

The staff members at Avanti Senior Living are pleasant with the exception for [name removed] and [name removed]. There is a staffing issues - poor pay is an issue. We never do see the executive director. The property is going downhill and they have dirty hallways. Also the food is awful.

The folks I interviewed made promises that have NOT been met. I would ask many questions of them as to their needs & expectations. If they need attention please be advised, that they will need to hire additional help.

There is an issue with some of the supplies that I have purchased going missing, the room sizes are good and they offer different floor plans. The food is average but there is not a lot of variety. I would recommend the facility to others.

I spent four months from January to May 2017 at the Avanti. THE COST FOR A SMALL ONE BEDROOM UNIT WAS $4740. PER MONTH. THEY NO LONGER BRING MEALS TO YOUR ROOM, A SERVICE THAT I PAID FOR. CONFRONTATIONS ARE OCCURING REGULARLY BETWEEN SOME RESIDENCE AND THE MEAL STAFF IN THE DINING ROOM. VERY UPSETTING. I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE ELSEWHERE NOW.

My mother's been living there since Spring 2017. The first 6 months or so were fine. Then staff began to quit. It's been floundering ever since. And this facility is less than 2 yrs old! The staff that has toughed it out are amazing. Love them, but they are spread very thin, and its not fair to them or the residents. Hate the management. My mom requires more care than the average resident. I don't really want to say more that may identify her. Management is bottom line oriented, and profit motivated. Probably the only AL facility that requires care givers to also prep and serve food. Management repeatedly refuses to hire dedicated wait and kitchen staff, which is crazy as for one, we're paying over 6K/month. Be open in your search to private care homes, they maybe old but your loved one will get more attention and it will more than likely cost less!

We toured here, and liked the community well enough, but I found out that they stopped serving meals. I feel that that is a necessary part of these communities. Families want their loved ones to have relationship and social opportunities as well as good nutrition, so the community seems incomplete without meal service.

I have been here often to visit my mom. There is very little activity throughout the day. Art is twice a month, though they told us they had "lots of art and Spanish classes and music" when we toured. There are no such things. The residents are in their rooms by 4pm, everyone set up to watch TV. Communication between staff at change over is minimal. Medication mistakes, poor housecleaning. The staff are super sweet to my mom, but there is so much turnover, noone really knows her. There are maybe 6 or so residents who play some cards every day, and everyone else is languishing. No music, no celebrations, sad really. They could do so much more. The director sells a good story, but be sure you really check it out to see how little is being planned to give a sense of life to the residents. Also its really hard to get anything taken care of, you have to call and message repeatedly.

We moved my wife out. She was getting very little mental stimulation and the male patients were not controlled well. Everyone acts very nice, but what you ask for up front does not seem to make it to the care workers or they don't care.

Moved parent into Avanti after a glowing review, excellent tour, and management made a great sale. In less than 30 days, the honeymoon was over and real Avanti showed itself. Since being here, my parent has been to the ER twice for various injuries. When we return from hospital, Avanti staff provided no assistance in the recovery. Myself and other siblings had to take time off work to provide assistance in getting pain meds, bathroom details, and food. What does the staff do? From my own eyes, it looks like they enjoy hanging out in the main lobby chatting with each other. We had to track down staff to remind them of meds and getting meals delivered to the room, otherwise my parent would have been ignored. Admin keeps avoiding us, can't provide answers when we do catch up with them, and facility is understaffed. It is a shame that the residents don't get better treatment for the amount of money paid each month. We are filing another complaint with the state.

Our tour was not good a good experience. We were just not at all interested. They did not seam nearly as customer service oriented as the place we chose. The facility is older as well..

I would tell others that the biggest issue that we had is that they are not equip for nursing and or medical care. They will kick you out to a mental hospital the minute you have any dementia or physiological issues. Even though she was in memory care they were not equip for that either. It is very close to a super busy highway so it is also load and dangerous especially if someone were to wander out of the facility. It is more a place for independent living although they advertise it for assisted living and memory care, they are limited on what they do to assist.

Value and honor of the elderly is lacking. What is told to get Sr into facility in false, employees have left due to mgmt expectation/treatment, Exec staff does not return calls to residents, no follow up on community complaints, residents are leaving with ongoing food lack/availability complaints, and long delay in answering emergency pull from bathroom. New management required, LLC intervention(not about money), and criteria for hiring employees that honor, respect, and value needs at this time in elderly life Very disappointed as I watch and hear elderly leave facility when they do not want to move again! These problems can be rectified.??

My mother in law entered Avanti in September 2017. The first two months were awesome. Since December this facility has gone downhill. It seems to get worse by the day and there appears to be no change anytime soon. They have had several turnovers in critical staff and support personnel including the kitchen/chef to the point that meals are marginally palatable, wrong medications have been delivered to residents, housekeeping is non existent, laundry which was to have been provided weekly is now taking longer. She is on the verge of leaving this beautiful new facility. Is it poor management? Poor employee compensation ??? We can’t figure this out but if it doesn’t change soon some corrective action must be implemented on behalf of our loved one.
