Avalon House on Gerard Court

My step-father, a Korean War veteran, surgeon and Type A personality, was forced into retirement at the age of 86 due to the emerging consequences of dementia. We cared for him 7 years until the symptoms of the disease kept him up at all hours of the night, making routine sleep impossible. He stayed at Avalon House on Cawdor Court for 22 months and passed away 6 weeks shy of his 95th Birthday. What stuck with me is although his short-term memory had an upper limit of less than 3 minutes, something about the care they provided meant upon returning from excursions he recognized, smiled and embraced 2 of the staff nurses tasked with his care. This detail and his interacting with them as he did me (jokes, direct questions, patience he reserved for a select few) eased my worries about his wellbeing.

My mother was at Avalon Cawdor Court for several years. She had previously been at some larger chains. After constantly getting calls about my mother falling and visiting her and seeing her unkempt I made the move to Avalon and couldn’t have been happier. My mother always looked her best, the environment was always clean, warm and friendly. The homes are located in neighborhoods and residents have their own room. When visiting it felt like visiting someone’s private home. There were only 8 residents with two caregivers. They took good care of her until she passed away. [name removed] was a superb caregiver and I keep in touch with her even 10 years later. I have recommended Avalon to many of my friends and patients. I will continue to do so. They are miles above the larger chain facilities.

I am so thankful for the wonderful care that my mother received at Avalon House #5 on Cawdor Court. The staff are extremely kind and very knowledgeable on how to care for someone with dementia. They truly care about the residents who live in this small home, which is in a very nice neighborhood. When I brought my mom back to Avalon House after a stay in the hospital, my mother said. “ it feels good to be back home.” That brought tears to my eyes because I knew that I had made the right choice when finding a place for my mom to live. My mom lived there for about 5 years. I will always be grateful to the staff and owners who took such great care of my mother when I no longer could.

My mother-in-law has been at Dominion Crest for nearly two years. They have provided the best in personalized care for her. The team is attentive and responsive in a way that provides her with comfort and satisfaction. It has been a nearly miraculous experience for her and for the family. They are the very best.

The staff have gone above and beyond caring for our mother. They are kind and have helped our mother in making the last stage of her life a loving and friendly environment. I highly recommend Avalon House.

The caregivers at this home share and care with each individual resident. What a great feeling walking in the front door and seeing smiling faces on the patients. My mother’s cousin is dressed neatly, smiling, and enthusiastic about a visit. Her personal needs are met so graciously, in this loving environment.

We had our mother in this house for about eight years. We could not speak more highly of the care that she received. The staff became our family, and close friends. There is no other place in the country where I would want my mom who is 94 years old and ailing with dementia to live. The staff there care for my mom was such grace and compassion edits like she is one of their own.

We had our mother there for about seven years. All the staff took incredible care of her, we felt incredibly safe to have her there. We could not have been happier with this whole establishment, and all the staff who work there. Extremely professional.

The Avalon house team of [name removed], [name removed]and [name removed]are a special group of Gods Angels. There care and attention to detail is unmatched we have experienced for my Mom. They also have a special gift to care for each family member. There understanding of the aging process and the various stages provides great wisdom an care. They are care givers for the family in every area. I would hope that the Avalon team would get the recognition they deserve as they are quiet, humble care giver that demonstrate Godly Love and care from special Angels. Words cannot how great full our family is for the Avalon team. They are way above 5 stars in there personal and professional care. Took amazing care of my grandma since the day she arrived. They were detail oriented about her safety and comfort. They took the time to organize her HUGE Med list to ensure her comfort and care. The staff was so friendly and did the best to make sure family could communicate to loved ones through window during covid. I am at peace knowing that my grandma took her last breath in the care of these angels.

The Avalon house took incredible care of my grandmother while she was in her final years. They made sure she was comfortable, content, and happy. They always had different activities going on within the home and my grandmother’s room was always tidy. During COVID, they allowed us to call on the phone and talk to her through the window, which really lifted all our spirits. During her hospice care they made sure she was the most comfortable she could be and really showed exceptional care. The care they gave her was more than just for a patient, but they treated her as if she was family. I cannot thank them enough.

When my Dad's Alzheimers progressed to the point where he needed more care than we could provide him, we chose Avalon House for him. Avalon on Laburnum became his home away from home with lovely Sharon as the head of the house and care. He was there for a few years and received the best level of care under [name removed] and the other caregivers who worked tirelessly to tend to his every need. They made sure he was safe and comfortable, and never bored, scared, or lonely. [name removed] also oversaw his medicine and could pick up on even the smallest health detail that others might have missed. And she was a great communicator, working with me to keep me informed and address his needs. This was during the pandemic which took a particular hit on the nursing care industry. But Avalon took many precautions to keep residents safe and families informed throughout. Maybe the best part for my Dad were the home cooked meals everyday. [name removed] is an amazing cook and the meals were wonderful!

Very good of maintaining schedule for bathing and eating.. Charming house. Modernized house. Nice neighborhood. Good atmosphere. Friendly Staff. Good Food. Good nursing care. Easily to communicate with staff and manager.

We were very happy with the care of my mother at Avalon House. The caretakers seemed to truly care about her. They treated her with respect and affection, getting to know her and enjoy her over time, in spite of the fact that she could be difficult at times. They were always very accomodating to us, the family, when we visited.

Avalon house number 6 is a great place for individuals who are frail or suffering from dementia. The staff has great experience in dealing with all types of situations. Furthermore, the staff displays fondness for the residents and provides that personal touch.

We could not be more pleased with Avalon Homes. Our mother lives at Dominion Crest and receives wonderful care from loving and patient providers. The communication is outstanding. The home is beautiful and is always immaculately clean. We highly recommend Avalon to anyone who is making one of the most difficult decisions for their loved one.

My husband is late stage dementia. I moved him from a reputable chain that was no longer meeting his needs. He had become a round peg that no longer fit in the square holes. A Place for Mom referred me to Avalon 10 and I signed within 24 hours. The Staff makes the House a home. They are caring, efficient, knowledgeable, approachable and loving in dealing with my husband...and me! They really care for him and help him to look and function the best he can be in this time in his life. They shower the residents daily, which was a huge plus in my mind when dealing with someone who has sensitive skin. That, and changing linens daily speaks to their dedication to the residents. Within a month, my husband's dry, irritated, rash prone skin took a 180 turn because of their knowledge, working with me so that he would have the right soaps and lotions to meet his needs. He is always dressed nicely and I don't have to worry a second anymore about the care he is getting. The staff is awesome.

It’s hard to describe how wonderful everyone was to my Mother and to our family at the Avalon House. The staff treated her expertly, and with dignity, as if she was part of their family. The house and yard were beautiful. There was a daily routine with home-cooked meals, exercise, games, and sitting with other residents. They bathed my mom every day, put lotion on her, did her nails and hair. They fed and cleaned up after her, and even did her makeup on special occasions. Her room and the entire house were always immaculate. It was especially difficult because of COVID and her Alzheimer’s disease, but they always made a way for us to visit through window or bringing her out on porch for a visit. When my mother was actively dying, they ensured she was comfortable with the right medications. They coordinated with hospice, clergy, and doctors. I cannot express my thanks enough to everyone that cared for my Mom. I wish we knew about Avalon House sooner.
