Ascension Living

I am still getting unpacked but I have been able to enjoy some of the activities offered. The food is good and there is a variety of choices. They keep Casa San Carlo clean and I am able to enjoy the grounds. The staff are beautiful and there for me if I need them.

The administrator was very friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with her time. I was looking at assisted living options. The facilities are very clean and in good condition. Residents are out and busy; there are lots of good scheduled activities. Studio apts are small but adequate with good closet space and excellent bathrooms. There is a lot of communal area and access to the larger communal areas at the center of the shared facility. The entire staff is very friendly and busy. This is a top-notch place.

There were similar services as the place we chose for my mother. It was a smaller community too. Everybody knows everybody. It's a warm atmosphere becauase it's not 25 floor and hundreds of people. I liked the size.

Super nice facilities! I did not see a lot of interreaction, socializing among staff or residents. Activities seemed somewhat limited.

Nice! Did a tour/lunch but I am interested in apts in the lodge.

The staff that i met was nice and attentive. The tour guide was knowledgeable and explained the activities and amenities the community offers. It was clean and well organized. This place is a pet friendly community. They also offer healthy meal plans for the residents.

Their new setup was not ready for new residents. There are 4 hallways with 10 residents and a minimum of 2 nurses in each hallway. As they filled up each hallway, they would put new residents in the next hallway. That meant 2 nurses for the new hallway and they were always short staffed. My mom was supposed to have meals and activities in her hallway but because of the staffing shortage she was taken out of her hallway and into a different hallway. Because of her dementia, she didn't know where she was at or what was going on and she had panic attacks almost daily. Moms's Medications were my responsibility and they were to notify me when she was needing more. Her meds were on autoship so she would get them when she needed more. Some nurses instead ordered medications from a pharmacy they contract with, which caused my mom's insurance company to deny the charges since I already got the meds on autoship. I ended up with a bill over $[removed]. Their pharmacy would send the bill to my mom and she would open it and then hide it and I didn't know about the bill for months. My mom would get headaches, an upset stomach, be dizzy and overly tired. I found out some nurses were contacting her doctor for prescription meds and the side effects were causing these symptoms. I had just been to her doctor for a medicine review to get her off some meds. One nurse was very mean to residents and did not treat them with respect. One of the male residents was bullying her in the other hallway she was taken to. They would just tell him to stop. After I talked to the nursing supervisor and some things still continued. I moved her to a different facility. A lot of the nurses and therapy staff were very good.

Residents are very happy and welcoming. Dining staff are cheerful and friendly. Food is delicious and activities are plentiful and enjoyable. Apartments are large and pleasant. For the things we wanted most, healthy eating and active socialization, Alexian is a home run. Regarding the administrative aspect of signing up and moving in, Alexian was not as organized and communicative or helpful as we expected.

This is a lovely community however, it is not well maintained. They have activities like walks and walks a long the river but with covid things are currently limited. They had things scheduled like dinners out and plays but they had to be canceled due to covid.

Not suitable for my needs and my loved ones needs. This was not an independent living facility and they offered more services than we really needed for our loved one at the time. This was not as new of a building either as the facility that we choose for our loved one. The staff were nice it just wasn't the fit for us.

This is a good retirement community. The food and food service could get better and I hope it does.

Nice visit however my mother would prefer more independent living options/amenities and updated 2bed/2bath, underground parking.

My mother and I had a good tour of this community. Everyone was very kind, and friendly. The community looked nice, and well maintained. Our questions were answered, and they were informative. It was a pleasant experience. The choice was up to my mother, and she decided to go with another community.

I had a pretty good tour of this community. I toured it for my mother and her needs. Everything went well, and I was satisfied with my tour. The community looked clean. From what I saw everything appeared to be well-kept. The staff was nice and friendly. It was a good experience.

I toured this community for my mother and her needs, and everything went pretty well. It is a nice community with friendly people. From what I saw everything looked nice and neat. They do a good job with the cleanliness of the facility. It was a pleasant experience, and I enjoyed my tour of this community.

More of a nursing home feel

We were not very impressed. It was dark and gray and chaotic.

The food is dreadful and deplorable. The biggest problem is the food. The meat is overcooked or undercooked, and the veggies are overcooked. My loved one has not partcipated in any activities. There is a handful of people who are helpful. The residents are nice. There was no hot water for a few days. They are understaffed, and on their third Executive Director. They have a lot of features in the building, that are pleasant.

We pciked this community because it was recommended. After a frustrating first 6 six weeks with slow progress and resolution we moved my lovedone out. They were working on improvements when my loved one moved out. As I said initially, they were really in a state of flux with old staff leaving or having been let go and many of her new resident needs not having been met. Hopefully they've worked that all out, but my loved one wasn't willing to wait and find out if it would improve.

They were one of the few places in the area that did have a specific memory care facility. But their prices were increasing, and they would have bee considerably more a month than the place we chose. Yet they offered a fraction of what the place we chose did. And the facility was also more dated. I just didn’t feel their facility was as equipped to deal with memory care. And it felt more like a nursing home vs. the home-like feeling we were looking for.
