My Mom has been there for one month. The welcome and warm attitude of the staff has been been very comforting to our family. In addition to the staff the residents all seem very happy which to us says alot about the quality of service. Thank you for making this transition more helpful.

The best of the best!!

I thought this place was one of the best I had seen out of all the different tours I had taken for my father. The staff have done a great job at making sure he comfortable and his needs are accommodated in his new living environment. I am very impressed with the overall experience and would defiantly recommend this place to anyone interested.

Gratitude Long Overdue

When it becomes clear that your loved one can no longer live independently it can be an overwhelming experience. My search for an Assisted Living Residence began with A Place for Mom and their courteous, and helpful assistance. They guided me through the process of choosing a residence best suited to the needs of my Mom and myself. The first place I visited was The Arbors at Islandia-West. Upon arrival, I noted the "bed and breakfast" feel of the residence. It was here that I was provided with all the information I needed to make an informed decision with compassion and understanding of the emotions that go along with leaving your loved one in the care of others. I visited and investigated several other adult residences in my area, but was continually drawn back to The Arbors at Islandia-West. I knew deep down inside from the beginning it was the best fit for my Mom. My Mom became a resident at The Arbors at Islandia -West in January of 2015! The residence itself is very well maintained. I have found the entire staff at The Arbors-West is friendly, patient, kind and attentive towards it's residents. The Doctors that provide their services are very good and make themselves available to any questions or concerns about the care of your loved one. I am certain my Mom is safe in their care. My Mom is very happy at The Arbors at Islandia-West and participates in many of the activities they have to offer. After all, her happiness is all that matters!

1st week at The Arbors in Bohemia

Finally came to the conclusion that my mother needed Assisted Living care. She will be 90 in September. Incident took place two weeks ago today that made me realize she needed to be in a better place. Went to The Arbors in Bohemia, only 10 minutes from my home. Met with Melissa who met with me for about an hour and a half. We discussed my mother's situation and she showed me a room that I felt would be perfect for her. Luckily there was a resident at the site who my Mom knew and Melissa and I arranged to have my mother have lunch with her the next day. My mother was impressed with the facility but thought she did not need to go there. We had a discussion that afternoon and she agreed to go. Made the final arrangement a few days later and my mother moved in a week ago. It has been a tough week but the staff has made the transition as easy as possible. Everyone and I mean everyone from Melissa, to Cindy and all concerned (receptionist, recreation and wellness division, housekeepers and maintenance personnel) have been so nice to her and me. She is still in the period of adjustment but is eating better and beginning to socialize with the other residents. Many more obstacles to go for her and myself, but thanks to The Arbors, life it beginning to get a bit easier again.

Great experience for my dad.

We originally took my dad on a respite basis for two weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks, we picked him up. By the end of the evening, he wanted to go back to live there on a permanent basis. He loved it there! He made great friends and he missed them. He enjoyed the activities there. We moved him in a week later and is having a great experience and is happy. I visited several assisted living facilities in different locations (not all were The Arbors), but found this location to be the best fit for my dad. We also like the all inclusive pricing and the ratio of men to women was much greater at this location than others. Also a greater population of italian speaking people. We made the right choice for him.

A Standout Community

The caring, attentive staff at The Arbors makes this facility a standout among assisted living facilities. I have had the pleasure of interacting with the employees of The Arbors on numerous occasions. Each time Nancy, Meghan and Howard have been stand outs in their field. The setting is clean ,bright and updated with a huge amount of daily activities. Each day there is bus trip that residents can participate in that takes them out of the community as well. I believe that the staff makes or breaks an assisted living facility and this one is a winner.

Very nice place!

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one. Overall I thought this place looked very nice! The community itself was clean and well kept, and the staff all seemed very friendly. We liked all of The Arbors communities, and actually ended selecting one for our loved one! This place is very nice overall, and definitely worth a look if you are looking into care options for a loved one in the area!

I would be a resident if needed!

My mother was here for 6 months before she was hospitalized and moved on to hospice care. The staff is caring and will encourage residents to participate in activities and be involved and will get resident out of their room if necessary. The rooms are large enough to navigate with a walker if needed. Menus were varied and not repetitive. Nutrition will work with residents for any dietary or medical problems. The decor was lovely and security acceptable. Doctors were there a few days a week. Laundry was nicely done and there were no losses or mix ups. When the time comes, I wouldn't mind being a resident as I found The Arbors to be warm and welcoming!

Going well

They are clean and the staff is friendly. There have been a few complaints about the food, the way it's cooked. They are very good in communicating with us, and taking care of my dad, they have been very accommodating, and responsive to us. We liked the location, we liked the one story building and the nice grounds. They didn't have a lot of smoke and mirrors.

A GREAT EXPERIENCE

This was my first experience trying to find a new home for Mom. The Arbors At Hauppauge were wonderful. Megan was helpful, supportive and gave us such a warm welcome during our visit. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very friendly with the other residents. It is a place you could call home. Thank you all for everything.

Friendly management and staff

The facility itself is very nice, it always looks well kept and clean. The people in management as well as all the caregivers have been friendly and easy to work with. It has been a very pleasant experience working with them, both for us as the family and for my loved one who is staying here.

Very nice community

We toured this location when we were looking into options for my loved one. Everything here was very nice! It looked very clean, the food was good, and the staff were all very friendly. The only problem I had with it was that it was a very large community, there would have been too much walking for my loved one to mange comfortably. It would be too long a walk from the rooms to the areas where they have meals and activities.

They are good for recreation.

They are good for recreation. Their wellness department is not as good, I would have to beg them to shave her and they wouldn't cut her nails. The Arbors was good if you don't need any help. Karen who does recreation here, she is the best! I've heard people complain about the food but some people will complain about anything. If you are fairly self sufficient this is the place to be. We loved it!

They pay attention to detail.

They pay attention to detail. They do seem to have a lot of activities and they follow up to see that people do participate. I had looked at another community and I chose this one because it was clean and all inclusive. Keep getting the people more involved and address any issue or complaint at all would be my only suggestion. My dad sat with some people at dinner and one guy who wasn't very nice, but he didn't want to say anything. This community also seemed brighter and more upbeat.

Absolutely wonderful

Several days before my mother-in-law was going to move in she passed away, but they were wonderful to us. My mother-in-law would have signed up for a painting group and there was a singing group that she was interested in, there would have been a lot for her to do and she was excited about it. It's a great place, it's a great value, it was close to our home, it was just the right fit. It was sort of low key as well, more all inclusive than others (they also had veterans discounts). She went on a lenghty ttour of The Arbors and fell in love with it right away.

A move for Mom

After visiting a number of Assisted Living facilities My choice was The Arbors East in Islandia. I’ve been asked, “ What helped me make the decision?”. I would like to say it is a very difficult decision to make for anyone, but specially my 100+ year old mom whose mind is good, but body is changing. The Arbors East is welcoming from the start. All employees are hands on, knowing individuals names and needs. If one is “social” and wants to participate in activities, they are available. Time spent in your room is doable with staff members checking in or inviting one to a soon-to-be activity. Mom will say the food is good and plentiful. Mom’s room is comfortable. When checking other Assisted Living facilities there were additional charges for a number of items (cable, additional medications, telephone…). Most items are included. Fingers crossed that mom continues to thrive here.
