My loved one seems happy here

Overall things have gone fairly well with Canyon Creek, although they haven't completely met my expectations. The facility itself is very nice, well kept, and clean, and the people that run it are dedicated and very nice. However, they do seem to have a problem with having a high turnover rate in their care staff, and not everyone they find seems entirely qualified. But overall they've done a good job, and my loved one seems happy.

Caring staff

After visiting many assisted living facilities, we found Canyon Creek to be the best place for our parents. Most were clean and beautiful inside and out. For us the staff was the deciding factor. They were so friendly and professional. We knew our parents would be in very good hands.

Liked the way there was more outdoors parts. Mom has always been more of an outdoors person, has outdoor courtyard area. Didn't like that in the winter, she would have to crossover outside from her apartment to the dining room. Apartments were very nice. Mom is not fancy, so it was simple.

It has gone pretty well, we are pretty happy with it. I would give the food a four. It's clean and the staff is pretty friendly. I can't think of anything that could be improved or done better.

Dads just fine thank you

It is clean but needs touch ups. Friendly for sure. they made us feel like dad will be treated like a family member. They have all the services they listed on the brochure but the activities aren't always fun for dad. They do however recognize every holiday and occation and are sweet with residents. I wish I lived closer.

The had assigned seats at meals to avoid little clashes. I used to help out with seniors and they can get a little snippy with each other so to avoid that they have assigned seating. Where my paretns went there is no assigned seating and they've found that to be better. They make more friends that way. It was the structure of the building that my mom didn't resonate with. It's a little closed off and dark. The director was so charming - you almost wanted to go there just for her!

The staff were real standouts. Compared to other communities that we toured, the management was pretty friendly, and so was the other staff. There's a doctor on call, and they have CNA's on site as well. The grounds and the building are very nice, and in terms of cost, Canyon Creek's comparable with the other communities we saw. From traveling to in-house entertainment to hiking to games, they're really good with activities

The rooms here were nice, clean and spacious even the studio's seemed big enough. The center seemed more homey and mom liked it better. I loved the outdoor space with the pond and turtles and fish. The gardening area is great. Tons of safe outdoor space even in the memory care area. The dining room was very little and smelled like a cafeteria, but it wasn't awful. I liked the emergency pull stations in the bathrooms and the pendant that pages to a nurse. We liked that there was a spa area and a salon. Also loved that it was so small and close. The staff seemed amazing and very caring. I love that if mom wandered or needed more care we would not have to move her out of the center, just to a new room same staff and building.

Good And Bad Parts To This Community

My wife stay at the Wentworth was an okay experience, she has more care then what they are able to provide there. So I am now looking into taking her home with me so she is with someone who loves her and will take very good care of her and her needs. I wish they would provide a better diet for the residents the food tends to be very starchy with is not good for her. The community had its good parts and bad parts, the staff was okay for the most part.

Could have better food

They have listened to the needs of my Mom and tried to accommodate that. Overall, the food is the biggest problem. They could healthier choices, better variety, and better taste.

It was kind of the structure of the building that we didn't like. It was a little dark and not as open. They have beautiful views and I liked it overall. They have one resident dog there. I though that was such a charming idea. Another lady who was the nurse there brought her bigger dog to work. My parents like that.

Review for Valencia at Cottonwood Heights

There was High staff turnover, mediocre food, slow response times on the call button. The room size was good. There were some activities going on. Valencia is substandard.

Review for Valencia at Cottonwood Heights

It's getting better under the new management. I just know that overall, my mother is doing better than she was under her previous facility. Her friend has said that Valencia is more involved. There hasn't been such a high level of turnaround in the staff. I take that as a good sign.

Currently Understaffed

It's been up and down. A wonderful few months and then staff changes, then it's downright scary. Very inconsistent. The first 6 months were great and would have been all 4-5 s. The director and staff changed in November after that, not good. Started getting a little better, the last month. As assisted living goes (person doesn't need much help) it's fine currently. But an unhealthy person should not live there because currently they do not have a nurse (he left with most of the staff) they say they're still looking, but it's been 4 months. My mom gets transportation back and forth to meals and her medicine dispense twice a day and that is [amount removed] extra a month so [amount removed] a month! Luckily she has home health and they help her out.

They have a new Executive Director and things are improving. The staff that work there are extremely caring. My answers would have been very different a month ago!

Our family visited Escalante at Willow Creek, it seemed nice from pictures and all that had researched on. Just didn't feel the right connection for us while on the tour, it was nice but many residents seemed to be unhappy and not as cheerful as expected. Not certain what was the issue or if was just an off day, but did not end up choosing this facility for my loved one.
