Aegis

The staff is all very nice but I found the pricing to be very vague. In the memory side I feel like they don’t have enough staff to toilet the residents and there is no bathroom that they can use outside of their rooms and all rooms are locked. They do engage with residents but not enough to toilet my husband on a daily schedule. My husband does not like to be lead around he needs a slow and steady and patience to get dressed and cleaned. Even if they had an extra pair of hands to just help with the ADL’s all day I would be happy. Like I said the staff is very nice and helpful.

Aegis is better than most but still has problems. Aegis, as with all the facilities I've stayed at, is lacking in being adequately staffed . . . and the staff being adequately trained. The administration seems to have holes too.

Much of the food was canned, tasteless, overcooked. My heart broke for my husband who had to eat it. The caregivers were excellent and when [name removed] was actively dying they were exceptional. The problem was communication: too little, too late, if ever. Staff turnover was astounding. Clearly Aegis is all about profit: bloated salaries for those at the top doing not much and peanuts for those at the bottom doing the work, caring for the "family". Ha! What a joke. When [name removed] needed round the clock care, the monthly fees went to $[removed] per month. A visit from his son with the manager reduced it to $[removed] all inclusive. Please explain how, from a business standpoint, that works. A lovely facility. However, I will not recommend. What is painfully clear is how critically important an advocate is. I can only imagine what [name removed]'s care would have been like if I hadn't been screaming all the time; I ached for the poor souls who have no family, no visitors, no voice. I expect that this is true everywhere. It was a painful, heartbreaking experience for both of us. My tolerance was, accordingly, low. However, he was safe, which was what it was all about. They, and the hospice team, were wonderful during his final days.

Overall our families experience was good, sometimes the care was questionable - on the memory care side we felt at times our loved one and the other residents could have a little more supervision. When it came to the meals they were great - our loved one did not eat certain proteins so they were very flexible with them and would change up their meals if needed. We did see a few activities they would have movie nights and different puzzle games.

There are some staff who are very good and some staff who are very bad, and you never know what you will get. They have a low response rate to the call button, you can wait for 2 hours. When I had an emergency, I would just call the front desk. They could've improved on a lot during my stay. Sometimes they ran out thing for weeks, like black tea and regular sugar. They were full of chemical substitutes, but I did not want those.

we toured Aegis Gardens and we didn't think it was a good fit for my loved one. they seemed to be culturally one sided and it was located further away from family. we chose another community because Aegis Gardens did not have what we were looking for.

I did not feel like I got the whole tour with Aegis Lodge. We felt that the facility was too big and so the care would not be as personalized as we were looking for. It is also very expensive.

Good community, not memory care only.

Aegis was more than what we wanted for the amentias and price for our loved one. The rooms aren't as spacious or modern as some other communities. The kitchenette is small. They have an older building. I thought it was unprofessional of the staff to try to get us to come to them, after we decided on another community. They offered to lower the buy in after they found out, and this made it unprofessional to me.

Memory side the residents are not allowed on the patio very often. The billing makes no sense I was always getting different amounts on my statements, med techs are not experienced, except for some who are excellent. Tables are not even on the floor, placemats are thread baron, not enough utensils or plates and bowls. Memory side is like a forgotten child. A lot of staff don't speak English very well so you can't understand them. Don't get me wrong they have some staff very competent and compassionate. I do not recommend this facility.

Some of assistants were very cold and unsympathetic. I caught a uti due to improper cleaning. Longer than 2 hours between being moved from one position. On positive side: food was very nice. Room was attractive as well as overall facility. I think my weight added to issues. Most of staff are small women who cant change someone of my weight(266lbs)

Moving in was a breeze, care is what you would expect, but the point system they use for charging for care is deceiving. I feel we’ve been nickled & dimed. There doesn’t seem to be any recourse or reasoning.

This review is for the memory care unit. I have little knowledge of assisted living. The good: Nice facility with some kind and dedicated staff. The bad: Consistently understaffed. This has impacts on services ranging from toileting to laundry to general cleanliness of the rooms. Further, they constantly inflate the amount charged, based on new services that they never perform. It’s a scam - once your loved one is in there you tend to be hesitant to move them, and big corporate Aegis knows this and takes advantage.

My loved one is currently a resident at Aegis of Ventura. You have to ask a lot of questions, as they are not forthright with information. The communication with the family is not great. I would not recommend this facility if someone is shopping price. It is extremely expensive for what you get and one is clearly being overcharged.

They are not responsive/communicative about what is going on with loved one. Leadership does not take responsibility of their duties, therefore, staff doesn't either. I think their main concern is profit. I would not recommend this facility to family and friends.

Initially Aegis looked perfect - the setup and decorations, and the staff running the place. But ultimately where care was needed, there was a charge for everything. There was too much salt in their food, and to accommodate a lower salt diet for my mom's high blood pressure, they were going to charge $500 more per month. She kept falling in her room, so then they required us to pay for a 12-hour shift of a caregiver at $35 / hour, on top of what we were already paying for her stay. There were other charges as well. There was another fee for toileting help. Another for help bathing. It got so expensive that it became more than double the cost of the initial care fees. It was obvious that they were running the community solely as a business. She fell seven times in four months. The final straw was with one of the last falls, nobody knew how long she had laid there on the ground. It could have been up to two hours. And then they just shipped her off to the hospital in an ambulance, because nobody knew what had happened. That’s not the kind of care a senior citizen needs.

The facility is beautiful but it's all smoke and mirrors. When you first meet they give you all the service and care they will provide but they do not follow through with that care. Every additional thing they do is charged on the bill the cost is very high. Beware of the salespeople. I would not recommend this community to others.

My mother has been at Aegis Lodge for about 5 1/2 years. When my mother entered Aegis Lodge it was a well maintained place with good food. As the years have gone by the place has become unmanaged, the housekeeping is horrible and the food is awful. It is definitely not chef quality as they advertise. My sister has complained repeatedly about the housekeeping and food with no avail. I just recently visited my mother and her apartment was filthy, her sheets, clothes and towels after being laundered were all crumpled up in a pile and thrown in her closet. Her refrigerator had mold along with her bath mat. Employee turnover along with management is overwhelming. They have an elevator that hasn't worked in months. I do not recommend Aegis Lodge!

It was impersonal, overpriced and they charged for services they didn't provide. They even made mistakes on meds that could have life threatening consequences. The turnover was constant and the contact with loved one was never consistent. Often things came up missing.

I had a bad taste in my mouth when I looked at the cleaning lady named [name removed], how she charges for some items that guests benefit from and her work always with a very despotic and arrogant attitude. The stay was short for my family member and due to these reasons I decided I will never use their services again and I would not recommend them
