A Place for Mom has scored Aegis with 7.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 81 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Aegis has 143 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.4 out of 5.
My loved one is always saying the food is good, this is important since my loved one is in assisted living. The community also will bring food to the room so I can visit with my loved one in their room. There are lots of activities for the residents, in the assisted living area. The staff knows to sit my loved one with her girlfriends in the community that are at the same level of memory as my loved one. I have no worries that my loved one is being well cared for. This is a blessing I found this place and I was able to get my loved one into the community. [name removed] has been a godsend to me and to assist in navigating and understand the stages of my loved one's care plan path. The community was ready to assist me in getting my loved one settled, setting up and decorating their room.

The community is very clean, and according to our loved one the best thing about this place are its staff members. They are very warm, friendly and helpful. Our loved one does say the meals are a little small, but overall good. The value for cost is great, we feel that we get the most for our money here. Another huge reason we chose Aegis, was because they had aging in place. It was comforting for us to know our loved one never needed to leave in their health worsened.

They were spectacular. It's an excellent place. They really care about the people that are there, both their staff and their patients. They were very helpful. They were accommodating during the Covid challenges. My friend got very antsy being there, and they allowed me to take him out for rides and keep him occupied. So while they were very careful in their protocol to keep everyone safe, they were not so rigid in those protocols that they were not able to work with people individually. And their care staff was phenomenal. The health lead was superb, just wonderful. The food was really good. During Covid lockdown, they still had some activities that were well monitored for safety. And those who couldn't leave their rooms got visits and interaction all the time from the staff, including the head director, who was very good to my loved one.

In the short time she was here, it was a great experience. We chose Aegis because of the amount of care that they were capable of giving, the atmosphere, the way they had them housed. It was 10 residents per house, so they were their own little community. Every time I went in here the staff members here were just wonderful. We could not have picked a better place for her. It was expensive but worth every penny. I would tell others to just check it out and you will know. Just going here you get the feeling that everybody cares and is like a family. I would recommend to others looking.

Their assisted living is totally different than their memory care unit. We were originally sold on and moved my mother into assisted living, and it was a nice facility with lots of activities and a restaurant-style eating area that was fantastic. Mom was excited to be there. But shortly after moving in, she needed to be moved to the memory care unit, which is like night an day when compared to assisted living. The memory care unit is more like a dorm with a little hallway, and not nearly as elaborate as the assisted living. They're served different food. I have not been able to try the memory care food, but she's not fond of it and is having a hard time with that. And unlike when she was in assisted living, she now begs me to get her out of there now that she's in memory care. It's a shame that they can't model memory care closer to the assisted living side. I've had some communication issues with the administrative/billing departments, but other than that , the staff are great people. I have been getting a lot of calls about issues though - she broke her hip, there was an instance where another resident wandered into her room and there was an altercation, and some of her belongings have gone missing. I understand it's more difficult to keep up with people with dementia, but I've been kind of disappointed with the issues that keep arising. That being said, I appreciate that they call me and let me know what's going on with my mother. They are generally very responsive to emails, and I'm having to take it on faith value that they're following up and doing the things they're supposed to. I've also had issues with the finance department, specifically bills not being correct. I've had to talk to them over and over about discounts and credits that have not been applied. They say they can't change current invoices, so I have to wait for the next month's invoice for corrections. Outside of those issues, they're friendly and very personable. And they're always very welcoming when I come in.

We chose Aegis at Ravenna at the time because. Aegis has a reputation of memory care, and they do have that available, I do believe some residents in the assisted living part of the facility are waiting to get into the memory care side of the facility. If you do not need memory care, you may run into people who are waiting because they are not separate. Other than that we have had a positive experience here and I would recommend to others who are looking.

The community is very clean, we have never had any issues and the staff members have been fabulous. The only reason we did not give the community a 5 was because our minor issues with the billing department, but everything has now been straightened out. Our loved ones room is beautifully set up. The residents can pick and choose what they would like to eat. Our loved one is vegetarian so they have been very helpful and accommodating with coming up with different food options for her to eat. We absolutely think the value is worth it.

We brought our sister-in-law to Aegis after the hospital. We did not feel safe taking her home. Aegis had “respite care” for anyone needing temporary help. The staff was wonderful, orienting us on what needed to be done. They provided a room fully furnished for us to move in right away. Through their care, my sister-in-law felt safe and at home. She has recovered to 90% now.

My below opinions/responses are based on my week stay with my mother, when she moved in, as well as email/phone conversations with various staff members over the past year. My mother, however, may have differing opinions from mine; she often can be selfish, moody, insistent, unrealistic, controlling and stubborn. From the moment I was introduced to [name removed] (Marketing Director), I was convinced that Aegis was the right and best place for (now, only) our mother. It was clear she believes in the company and quality of care available. My brother had the same reaction when he spoke with her. We were also very relieved that Aegis Granada Hills provides a setting for aging in place, and, especially, that Memory Care services are an option for when (if) she reaches that point in her life. The entire facility appears to be well-maintained and clean. Every member of the staff with whom I came into contact was very friendly, welcoming and helpful, which was very much appreciated. (My mother has been very quick to accuse some staff members of theft. While I was there with my mother, I was amazed at the quality of care. She couldn't want for anything that wasn't provided her. She needed help hanging a picture? Someone came right up. She needed help with something else? A staff member was right there. Even the movers that Aegis provided her, who had to handle very large pieces of furniture, worked tirelessly to place everything just where she wanted it, including assembly of a gigantic bedroom set. The nurses that come to her apartment for her initial assessment were patient, understanding and kind. (This was a particularly difficult time for our mother, as our father had just passed away only 9 days before move in day.) My mother, however, complains that people show up at any time day or night and just come right in her apartment to check on her, or take out her garbage or, some other interruption that bothers her. My family and my brother and sister-in-law were treated to a lovely Mother's Day lunch on my last day staying with mom last year. The food was delicious, healthy and ample. The staff was kind and attentive. (My mother often complains about the Meals/Dining experience. She says the portions are too small (though she could probably simply ask for more), the hours are inconvenient (having to eat dinner by 5p annoys her). She doesn't (or at least didn't) enjoy the company of her tablemates with whom she (believes) was forced to dine each meal (apparently, she felt their conversation wasn't stimulating enough). She might have expressed this to someone in charge and had her table changed recently; I am unsure. I appreciated seeing the menus posted, which appeared to offer a good selection of dining options. I also thought the casual help-yourself coffee bistro in the lobby area which provides drinks and snacks is a very nice amenity. I am impressed by the number of daily activities offered at Aegis and the adorable movie theater on site. I often find myself encouraging my mother to participate in as many activities as possible, but she complains. Again, she is still grieving the loss of our father, to whom she was married almost 69 years and is often depressed. I believe she enjoys the movie theater, since acting is in her blood. She has been in the business in some capacity most of her life. Her general complaint about activities is based on the lack of interesting conversations amongst other residents. I think she wishes they were all more like her. It is difficult for me to assign a rating of the value of cost, as I have nothing to which to compare it. Unfortunately, assisted living is quite expensive and the one-time move-in fee at Aegis Granada Hills was exorbitant, at [fee removed]. That said, Aegis is the best place for Mom. She is cared for, safe, well-treated and close to family. I would definitely recommend Aegis Granada Hills. It remains family-owned and run since inception, which shows in the care. It is also a smaller facility, allowing for more personal attention.

My loved one is a resident at Aegis of Lake Union. Most important is to clearly understand level of staffing. Is there adequate coverage during day and night? It seems like they are not always fully staffed. The staff that they do have is excellent. A second issue that drives me crazy is how the laundry works. Every day there are strange clothes in my loved one's closet and I have no idea where many of his clothes are. Once, I saw a resident wearing my vest (not my loved one's) from my work. The laundry is a small issue. but it drives me crazy. I haven't seen the new grey towels that I provided since July. Food prep is also important- we never ate fried or junk food at home. There seems to be more reliance on this type of food now than there was in the beginning. They don't seem to have as many salads. Overall, I am happy and grateful to the personal care and attention that the staff have provided to my loved one and his care.
