Abode Care Group

The staff was very caring and friendly to deal with. Our mom's health declined rapidly in recent months due to advancing dementia and other health related issues. It was recommended we place her under hospice care so she could stay in her "home" until she passed away. We did not want her to return to the hospital and rehab again, as in the past. Those difficult experiences made her more confused and declined further. Mom got excellent and loving care by the Above and Beyond staff, along with the Ascend Hospice team. We were very pleased with the activities Mom got to take part in when she first moved in and was still able to enjoy. It did take her some time to adjust in the beginning, but we were grateful she moved in before she began to decline and needed 24/7 attention and care.

They are very welcoming/hospitable to family members on visits...could do better with providing updates on health, specific needs.

I have been visiting Atrium for almost 4 years now. A lot of changes have happened over this time period. The staff change overs are very hard on the residents, but are necessary to get this place in tip top shape. Very nice to see a previous staff member (admissions) back in Atrium and helping to make things run smoothly. I have had some issues that have been resolved in time. I have learned to start with the problem and move up the ladder as necessary & if needed. As a care giver for a client that has been here since the beginning, the changes that have been nade (higher up staffing) have had some difficult times straightening out and fixing issues that were left behind, but are on the mend.

There are lots of nice, caring people and lots of friends to be made. Abode hosts lots of fun activities daily. They do activities inside and outside of the community which offers a nice change of scenery

The staff is wonderful. Very caring (most everyone). [name removed], the activities director, is full of energy and great ideas. The food could be improved.

Definitely get a direct contact number for the Director and head RN. It's difficult to get directly in contact with the facility with general phone numbers. Don't be afraid to ask questions even if it's the same question several times until you get an answer. Make special requests clear and follow up. Example would be an in house hair salon appointment. We asked several times for mom to be scheduled with the salon & unfortunately she never was.

The activity director is outstanding communication between nursing staff, and myself is nonexistent. I have noticed a lot of changes throughout the last year that they've been bringing in a lot of new people and I think it's going in a positive direction. Cleanliness and price is why we chose this community.

The facilities are beautiful and well kept. They are always short-staffed and the health team is often unresponsive to messages. If their loved ones medical issues aren't critical, it's great. We chose it because it starts with assisted living and residents can move to the memory care wing if dementia progresses to a point where they need 24/7 support.

The reason it is lacking is because the communication is not always the best. We often say the right hand doesn't always know what the left hand is doing. However, everyone is lovely and tries their best. As with many other businesses, they are sometimes understaffed. The facility is beautiful, it is a very comfortable place for my loved one thinks so too, and feels very blessed to live there. She thinks so too. She feels very blessed that she is able to live there. The biggest issue is communication. There are usually hiccups after someone leaves a job there and they have to rehire and get the new person up to speed. Things can fall through the cracks in the interim. The thing that would help this facility so much is a portal where families could communicate with the staff and see notes and updates about their loved one. Families could see appointments with PT/OT, when they've been bathed, what medications they are currently taking, what time of day they are getting them, etc. It would be so helpful to the staff because families could update the portal with issues for their loved ones (doctors appts, prescription info, etc) much more easily than trying to track someone down over the phone, etc. Mistakes happen when communication is poor and a portal would solve all of those problems for both the facility and the families.

The staff at Atrium of Allentown has been extremely helpful.

Overall it is not a "fancy" facility, the staff is very friendly and helpful, the facility is older, the food is exactly what one would expect for the clients. The administrative staff is in an upheaval so it is not fair to judge one way or another. Abode is a great value for the money and my mother in law is happy and that is the bottom line.

Relative Affordability + adequate staff were the main reasons we chose Abode Care of Allentown. I would like updates on general/specific state of being since I live 2+ hours away.

The Atrium of Allentown facility is new and well maintained. It is a two story building with resident rooms around the perimeter of a large, central dining area and courtyard on the first floor. The recreation room is on the second floor. Most residents seem happy with the food activities. Atrium did not work out for us as our mon now uses a well chair. Her room was very nice but not geared for someone in a wheelchair; she couldn't reach the sinks. Plus her room was far from the central admin center. Atrium was not staffed to deal with the amount of assistance our mother needed with medications and movement. She passed her initial assessment to enter Atrium, but we shortly had to move her to a higher level of care facility.

We chose that community because of the friendly staff, and the amenities all within his budget. I believe we are getting what he can afford. The challenges we have had he been mostly with his behavior and not the staff. Mostly.

We chose Abode Care of Allentown because of the cost and the location. It is a little tough working through prescription issues. I would recommend this facility to others. It is a good choice especially for the price point.

When Mom needed a place to go to, we looked at a few places. Abode Care was very welcoming, staff was ver nice and residents looked happy. The cost was also a factor in our choice. Since Mom has been there, she has looked well cared for, clean and happy. Her mental capacity won’t ever improve, but as she progresses, I feel confident Abode will be there to support her and us.

Mu moms bathroom was disgusting, the sink had soap scum in it, it was black. The toilet had crap on the outside of it. My mom is to old to clean it and she shouldn't have to. Workers sit around playing with their phones. To much money for that.

Everyone loved my mom and took good care of her. Safety was always a concern with the front door being unlocked.

I would like proactive updates since I live in New Jersey and told them I am not going to visit often Regarding activities I would encourage group TV for events like big sporting events, etc Size of the facility is not too big or small, adequate staff ...which is why I had to move him, affordable

Im glad we found l such a nice place for my mom where the staff treats her like family.My two sisters chose it and I agreed I would recommend Abode to others. While the majority of the staff are great, there's been so much turnover that there seems to be a need for formal training. Transferring my imobile mother had been a challenge for new staff, causing unnecessary falls and scrapes for my mom. On the job training should be on be after formal instruction and practice gave occurred and proven acceptable.
