Best facility in town for the value. The super elite places may be better but are generally not covered by insurance.

My best friend had a horrible past experience in another skilled nursing facility so we toured the facilities before choosing Westminister Manor Health Center. They were far superior to the other local facilities. It is clean, most of the staff is cheerful and helpful, although they do get frustrated too. The rooms are nice and homey and do not have a hospital feel. The food is decent and they allow you many choices. The physical therapists work hard to help the patients improve. I will mention the one bad review stated mixing rehab patients with long term nursing patients, so I think they may have had mixed up the facility with some other place. This is a rehabilitative skilled nursing facility, not a long term nursing home.

Just Right

My mom and I visited several properties in the area. She had a budget but could afford most. There were fancier places, but they made her feel uncomfortable. After visiting this location, she said she had found the right blend for her. [Removed], our sales representative, was kind, not pushy and honest. My mom suddenly become excited about this stage of her life and all the choices vs. limitations. She's been there for a few months now and has thanked me several times for pushing her to move into an independent living facility. Couldn't be happier that she's happy and safe.

I am disappointed with the clarity of the facilites medical care and it's certification: to do certain care procedures in Assisted Living. e.g. 1. therapy care and the need for outsides services to continue therapy; what kinds of procedures can/cannot be done in house. 2. Poor communication with the "house " doctor and patient needs. I am still unclear about billing procedures for medicare, pharmacy, housing costs, and rate increases. Have to be vigilant on the costs. I am having 2nd thoughts about Auto-Pay.

Need help? It'll cost you

This is a community for rich people and my mother was not comfortable because of the exorbitant cost. My parents no longer live here, they had to leave. This community would not provide help for my parents including NOT being able to put my dad's wheelchair on the trolley cart - they were not willing to do that. My mother had to go out in the rain multiple times just to get their food because they charged her if it was delivered. They were very rude to my mothers and treated her in a condescending manner, so I don't advocate Westminster!

Westminster Shores review

It's a lovely community and the residents care for one another. The nursing staff in assisted living is overwhelmed and not able to provide the care we pay for. It seems to be a universal problem in every assisted living we've encountered. The care is a mixed bag of bright and compassionate employees who go above and beyond to assist a growing population of new residents who have been with this institution for years and angry and uncaring staff who would not take an extra 30 seconds to help your loved one stand up or put their shoes on who should not be working in healthcare or any industry involving human interaction with vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, the uncaring appears to be multiplying and winning at the Shores, and unless management makes intelligent choices on vetting, selecting and training new hires wisely, this assisted living is honestly a one fading star review at best.

30% rate increase in 6 years

This facility used to have a long waiting list. Now there are occupancy issues which they seem unable to resolve. 30% rate increase in 6 years has put it out of my price range and I understand has caused residents to seek other living communities. There are ongoing dining issues including cutting back on meal portions, choices and planning to eliminate breakfast all together. My parents were in a high end CCRC and I would have moved them immediately if they had half the rate increases that Westminster Shores has had. These increases are significantly out of proportion compared to other like facilities in FL.

Do not recommend

The community I bought into five years ago is not the community I live in today. Employees are performing multiple tasks not commonly associated with their position description. The Activities Director is driving a tram not to assess needs but to deliver meals. The new Director fired the nurse, a beloved, trusted care giver who was providing care in accordance with case management standards as spelled out by the American Nurses Association. Monthly cost has risen steadily and far outstrip the cost-of-living adjustments and used to pay a 5% increase to executive salaries compared to the national average of 2.8 to 3%. The redeeming quality is a dedicated group of employees whose loyalty to residents is stellar. [removed]

Great PT department, lacking in other areas

I got my knee replaced and was here for [date removed]. The administration is pretty good and tries to resolve problems, but they're problems that should not have been an issue in the first place. PT was so good, it has let me walk pretty independently within the week of surgery. Physical therapy is out of this world, super great! It's a pretty location.

Not worth the money.

I have not had a good experience with them. First of all, I don't think they screened my loved one appropriately. And then they tried to move her out of independent living within 35 days. It seemed like a money grab to me. I think her living space is terrific, but she hates it. She thinks the residents are a bunch of busy bodies, and she doesn't like the food.

Tour of Westminster

I liked that Westminster offered all types of care. I knew my loved one would most likely be moving to the nursing home portion of the facility pretty quickly and it was way more expensive here than some other places that we looked into which is why we decided against them.

We didn't find this facility very inviting and the sales person did not seem very interested in us. Also didn't see any residents walking around the grounds and enjoying the beautiful location. We are interested in paying monthly so the very large buy-in was not for us.

Disappointed after 6 yrs

Has diminished in value--over the last 3 yrs. I have lived here 6 yrs. And getting less over the years in quality/ quantity of dining choices and variety of activities since Jan. 2018 and Pre CoVid Time Period. Key staff position turnovers/resignations in all depts multiple times over the last 8 mos. due to corporate demands/stress. Chronic understaffing in maintenance and housekeeping. Waiting weeks, sometimes months to get simple requests done in the senior independent living which houses 62--80+ yrs clients. Staff employees really try and are friendly.

Levels of care not what I expected

My big concern is the escalating levels of care available to my elderly parents. They have been living in a home in Waterbridge subdivision which has been wonderful for them. They have their independence, yet have the services of The Towers, when needed. That was until Dad fell. He just needed someone to look in on him twice a day to assist with little things he couldn't do while he was recovering. The only option the Towers offered was to move him into assisted living in a two room apartment with no kitchen. Well, my parents were not ready for that. They just needed temporary help and the Towers doesn't offer that. So just be sure to ask what they offer and know what you are buying into.

Not as Nice

They were very nice. That was our second choice. Very, very nice place. They were more expensive for what we wanted and they didn't have near the amenities. They didn't have people to do laundry, but they did have light housekeeping every other week. None of the apartments had washers or dryers. They just were not as nice.

Saw Westminster Shores today, 4/5/13....

Saw Westminster Shores today, 4/5/13. Not right for my mother ... ALF is very limited, which can be OK, but all apartments are like individual garden apartments; one must go outside to get to central location. She is already sequestering herself in an active community where people go in and out of her apt. now ... this will not solve her non-social situation. The person who showed me around was only an employee for 90 days and admitted that she was 'winging it'.

Be careful. The view will WOW you. I loved my apartment and the GORGEOUS VIEW. But LOOK PAST THAT. They are demolishing all the wonderful villas and apartments to build expensive high-rises. They will be charging a lot more for the monthly fees for the new condos. It is NOT "what you see is what you get". And they do not let people know before selling to them. I moved because I did not want to live next to a construction site with my windows closed and the sea wall sidewalk closed because of the construction. Also, I wanted this to be my last move. My apartment was cleaned by housekeeping once in the 3 months I was there. The food is breaded, cheaper cuts of meat, lots of carbs and sugars and with rich gravies, not necessarily heart healthy. Buses for doctor visits are 2x per week between 6am-3pm and only within a few square blocks. Buses to store and bank once per week. Need a car if there. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED that I needed to leave the apartment and view, but the amenities and the future of the community were a disappointment.

The residents are VERY unhappy

The Shores is a perfect example of Corporate greed. Rates are going up as services are rapidly eliminated. You are on your own to evacuate for a hurricane, they now want to charge for meals that are of poor quality and quantity. If you have a cardiac history look elsewhere NOW. They have a Corporate policy AGAINST automatic defibrillators on the Independent Living campus. The Corporate office, in Orlando, lives in Lala Land and is astounded when they find out what is REALLY happening at the local level. The residents are frustrated, angry and dismayed.
