A Pleasant Place!

It is a wonderful establishment and there are many levels of care for every individual depending on their situation and needs. The staff is quite attentive and friendly. There is not a lot of younger handicap residents, but there are a lot older than me and some younger and i am 86. The service and residence is great overall, and i am very pleased with my stay.

Things to know about Hearthstone Village

Most of the people are very friendly! There are only 2 maintenance people to care for 3 large buildings so sometimes it takes a bit before some things can be done. They try very hard but they really need to employ more maintenance staff. The office are always welcoming and ready to listen to your concerns. They need to have some different activities ! No I think the cost of here is not worth it! Plus the appliances need updating or better quality.

I signed my lease over a week prior to moving in. At that time I also gave them a list of things that would need to be addressed by maintenance and this included hanging pictures, put a folding door back on its track as well as the screen door, the balconynlight doesn'twork, the foor to the balcony doesn't lock. I requested a hand rail by the toilet. I was told that the kitchen appliances would all be exchanged with new ones. I moved in and the apartment had not been cleaned. Yesterday I mentioned this to the office and they immediately called their contract cleaner who came over right away to clean. I have now lived here 2 weeks and not one promise has been kept. The only thing that was done was to clean the place. I am getting annoyed!

My Experience

More than half the staff is new here because the other staff was fired or quit since I moved in a few months ago. It's hard to get things completed - for example I had an error in my rent calculation for the first month and I didn't get the credit until December because I asked every week what the status was. I have had maintenance requests put in and were closed without being fixed or I fixed them myself. Communications are not done timely or in print that people could read (large). There is a residents team that meets with the staff, but nothing seems to come out of it. The new residents' meetings have been cancelled every time there is one scheduled. This is important information and it doesn't seem important to the staff. There has been one town hall, but that was to announce the changes in the meal plan and that took a bad turn so everything else was kind of put off to the side. There is part of the roof that is not covered with shingles and it seems that there is no plan to fix it. Housekeeping is good; they keep the general areas nice and clean. The garbage removal is a whole different problem; it is often full and it stinks, people complain but just last week, trash was all over the parking lot, like an animal got into it. There is not enough handicapped parking and it seems the entrance way is always blocked with parked cars that are only supposed to be there for 15 minutes but are there much longer. The move in process is all on the renter, no bins are provided to transport large boxes of items or the carts that are available are very small for groceries only. There were some admin issues with my entrance badge but I got them fixed. The meals are hit and miss in quality and temperature. They recently raised the cost of the plans, which is a pretty high cost for the meal you get. There could be more automatic doors for the folks who use walkers, the downstairs bathroom doors are very heavy and they have a really hard time getting in and out of the door. I would not recommend the facility as it is now and I am thinking about moving to a different apartment and buying out my lease. Too much to be done and it seems that it's handled at a snail's pace.

The Lodge is fantastic in accommodations. However what was represented by the leasing agent is not all what was said. I asked specific questions and received answers that confirmed my questions. In reality many things are not so. I was led to believe that there were people to handle some needs, like taking an RX to the pharmacy or coming to help you for quick help. There is no such help. There’s the phone “concierge” and the maintenance staff of two. I was told they could help installing shelving, etc. after I moved in. They do not. This is a lovely place. The restaurant is very good. I would be careful if you needed assistance here and there. It’s non existent. Other people have experienced the same.

The apartments seem clean but the facility smells like smoke..

The apartments seem to be clean but the facility smells like smoke. They allow smoking. The hallways are not clean. The carpets are dirty. Other than that it's a safe place. Its not on a bus line which is difficult for some residents. The cigarette smoke is the reason why I gave it less of a rating. The apartments are spacious and clean. It's just the facility that needs work. The cleanliness is my main concern.

Loved living here for a year until the new management took over in October 2023.

Services are being cut dramatically while the rents remain the same. Our pool has been closed since early October. We are told it won't open for 6 more weeks. Our breakfast program had been reduced from 7 to 5 days a week while the owner is continuing to collect full rent! Stay away! There are lots of other choices in the area.

Better take caution!

We are very disappointed with the declining concierge service we are experiencing here for our loved ones. There is not around the clock concierge as promised in our contract. Forget holidays. They just simply close up. I could go on and on, but I recommend ANYONE thinking about renting talk to ACTUAL residents first. Safety was a huge concern for our loved one, but with no one at the concierge, anyone can come and go straight up the elevators to apartments, enter, the what is now, a PUBLIC restaurant and all premise areas. We expect what was and still is advertised in there brochures and ads today! You do not get what is advertised! Oh, and expect to be charged extra for any holiday festivities to attend.

Don’t believe the hype

My mom was so excited to move here. Being told all of the activities, foods, social events, etc. nope. It’s not at all what they hype it to be. [removed]k a month for nothing basically. Patio feels like a prison. The whole place feels like an office building.

This was the worst place and the worst experience I have ever had. Fire alarms, going off constantly day and night. Broken elevator for three weeks in a building that has basically cripples. Lousy food. very limited menu. Short notice cancellation of activities. dogs over the size limits. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Do NOT move here

If you care about your elderly loved ones do not place them here. The office staff consists of young men who are out of touch with the senior community. Elderly tenants are expected to shovel their cars out after a storm and they don’t even provide a shovel. The snow freezes and it is a very dangerous situation. Someone is going to get hurt again. One of the garbage areas has a mattress and furniture in there from months ago. Dumpster area icy and dangerous. Garbages in front of buildings are often overflowing. If you bring concerns to the office staff you are often ignored. The smoke alarms are outdated from when the building first opened 20 years ago. They do NOT have 24 hour maintenance as they claim. Inside of buildings are deteriorating. The balconys that have been replaced were not done by professionals and it shows. New tenants already want to move because the basic amenities are not even being met. They only want your money…they do not care about you.

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE

This community is absolutely a nightmare!! The company that was providing the food up and quit, they took the residents money!! Now the poor residents have to stand in line for almost 45 mins to wait for food that is brought in from local places and its awful!! The new company was supposed to start on 09/30, and guess what? They are not starting. Now they have to endure these conditions this month? My grandmother went to go use the shuttle today and it was cancelled because they had no one to drive it!! Most of the time the activities are also cancelled. The place is falling apart. No landscaping, decks are falling in and a staff that does NOT care!!! DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE WE DID!!!!

The elevators are broken again

If you are in a wheelchair beware . They do not keep the elevators running . You will be stuck in your apartment . And the only help you will receive is from other people in the building
