Savant of Jurupa Valley review

The people are very nice and caring at the facility. When they don't forget the schedule or to bring items their care is good. I feel if I'm paying for a service to look after my father I shouldn't have to remind them to give him his medication. They have lots of activities for the residence, but at times they tend to lock them down as punishment or send them to the rooms if they're having special events. Their dining situation is a challenge because they've undergone new management and drastically increased pricing because that is their main focus instead of taking care of repairs and cleanliness which is what needs to be done. It seems now they're only doing leaks and things of that nature because individuals from the city and inspectors have come onto the property.

Our Experience

Studio Royale is a nice property and the physical upkeep is very good. The food is good quality, well prepared and tasty. The day-to-day staff is very good. However, upper management staff has changed frequently in the past year. A year ago a woman named, [name removed], was in charge and did an outstanding job. Since that time, upper staff management has been widely variable in performance. The medical staff has declined enormously over time. Getting meds on time and in the correct dosages is a struggle. This could be due to poor management and/or understaffing. The Director, [name removed], and the manager, [name removed], are hard to reach with undependable follow through. Although I have seen both rise to the occasion, it is not the norm.

Nice but needs a lot of TLC

They had a total change of people and didn't let anyone know. There's too much deferred maintenance. They've let it really rundown cosmetically. Recently had a major water pipe burst, and when the floor tiles were replaced in the common area, they didn't even try to make it look aesthetic. Looks awful. Water rot from the rains on the doors, and the carpets need to be replaced in the hallways.

Disappointed

The Executive Director was amazing. She was extremely informative, personable and really cared about my loved one and the other residents. The staff have been extremely friendly and helpful. The menu options for meals is excellent. The residents can choose a meal just like a restaurant. The Director and I spoke again last week because the bookkeeper and corporate office were trying to raise my loved one's rent almost [amount removed] more a month starting in January 2024 when my loved one had only been there for ONE week. My loved one moved in October 25, and the Director said it wasn't a problem, we were moving into the model suite, they do tours in. My loved one moved in and was so excited. The bookkeeper is now trying to make my loved one pay for October 1 to 24, when she wasn't even there. The Director assured us not to worry, it would be corrected. We found out today that the Director quit and left crying. The main Chef also quit last week. Now the bookkeeper is after my loved one to pay October 1 to 24th or be evicted. My loved one has been there only one month, has made friends, and feels at home now. We would never have moved her in if we knew that in 2 months they were raising her rent, because she's on a tight budget and charging her for October. We are extremely disappointed in the bookkeeper, who approached my loved one in front of others and humiliated her, making people think that she is not paying her bills. We may have to pull my loved one out, after only one month, if they don't go by what their Director informed us. Very sad for my loved one if she has to leave. Right now, I would not recommend the facility. It's been very stressful for my loved one and us.

Our experience with Brookdale Valley View

My loved one is currently a resident at Brookdale Valley View. Right now, the facility is understaffed in several areas. The hospice nurses do most of the care. The meals that are brought to the rooms are unappetizing looking and are served with plasticware. The drinks are served in Styrofoam cups. However, the people at this facility are very friendly and they try to be accommodating.

There activities are good. My loved one does need help with cutting up their food. They don't always get help from the staff. They alway seem to be short staffed. There is a new director. So far not very impressed with her.

Our Experience

The staff is amazing! They are extremely helpful, friendly, but sometimes they do need to pay a little more attention to detail. Things tend to not get done as quickly as they should. The facility is very nice. The price is exactly right for what you are getting - you are not getting top notch. It is not the most amazing place, but it is a very nice facility.

Staffing issues

They are having quite a few staffing issues, and continue to keep changing weekly or every two to three weeks. They need more staff that stays on board and would be better for the residents. The food is sometimes good but at other times is not. Consistency is not great in the kitchen.

We had a good tour at Villa de Anza. I liked that they had a very large dining room. And the gentleman who gave us the tour seemed to be up-to-date on all of his information. But it was just too far away from where we live.

Its okay for the price.

The food is terrible. They just have really inexpensive cheeses, and they'll serve cheese dishes three days in a row. The housekeepers are friendly and nice though. Really it was the Santa Monica weather and the cost that got me to move in here. I got one of the bigger units, so I'm really happy with it. They do offer activities here, although I haven't participated in much.

Clean, Modern Community with Chinese Speaking Care Staff and Residents

The community is well staffed, clean, there are a lot of Chinese speaking residents and care staff and meals. The billing is a nightmare due to broken communication from the community to their corporate office. This seems to make it more of a nightmare for the families as well. There is limited parking; however, the community is willing to work with you during the move in process.

Too Corporate

I think you should consider looking around some more before deciding on Brookdale Alhambra. We had problems with billing. We were promised a certain amount for rent each month when we moved in, and invoicing has not been accurate. Food was an issue - it wasn't really geared toward the needs of the residents. Rates are raised significantly every year. The executive director has been working with us to address our concerns, and she's been helpful . But the main office has been giving us grief.

Memory Care
February 7, 2020

This former hotel is showing its age and was currently undergoing some renovation. The Manager, [name removed], was very nice and accommodating and gave us a tour of the memory care building across the street from the main building. It seemed to be adequately secure and clean although lacking in any charm. The residents in both buildings were just sitting in their wheelchairs staring forward--not engaging in conversation. It was a tad depressing.
