Dissapointed with this community

We picked this community because, I needed to get my loved one into a facility quickly. My loved one was there a short period of time. One issue, I had was they did not answer the phones, and they returned my calls a few days later. They did not have sufficient activites available for the residents. It was not structured very well. Overall, I was dissapointed.

Ranson Ridge had very nice staff but the facility itself was older and had more of that institutional feel to it. The room sizes were also small and I knew my dad would not be happy here.

Good with Reservations

It's so hard to say because Covid has cast such a shadow on our experience. I would say visit a lot if you can. We have not been able to so far due to Covid. There are times when there wasn't enough staff, and other times they're staffed well. The staff will definitely go out of their way to help you, but often there's just not enough of them there. We looked into more expensive places, and this seemed like a good value. I think they're doing the best that they can.

Decent Tour

My tour of this community was pretty decent. From what I saw the community looked well maintained. Everything was nice and clean. The staff was friendly and nice. There were many factors that played into where to place my husband. This was nice the place for him and his needs.

Tread Lightly

This place is so new that they really don't know what they are doing. Nobody is in charge, the caregivers are not certified, the administration keeps changing and promising to change things, but nothing has changed. I would recommend that this place only be used for a temporary situation until a better facility can be found for your loved one. Also the food is frequently disgusting.

Not having activities is really bringing things down.

We aren't real satisfied right now. They don't have a lot of activities, they don't have an activities director. It's really boring right now. They have assured me that they have a new activities director and they will change things. It's a very nice facility, and if you have a problem they are right there to address the issue, right away. It's a very clean place, and the staff is really friendly.

The leadership is trying but biggest issues is with work ethic

The staff member are all pretty friendly, and they are doing more activities with the residents which is a blessing. However the food is mediocre and the med techs are not doing the best job. The care is just not constant, for example our loved one dentures will go without being cleaned for a few days.

Ask questions about restraints for protection

My father was recently in this facility. The staff were very nice there. My complaint is that my father fell there three times and the last fall resulted in his death. The residents suffer from dementia and require more care due to possible fall risks. I was told no restraints can be used on residents to protect them. Yet as my daddy lay dying at Hospice I was told the doctor could have ordered the use of protective measures so my father would have been in safer environments. My heart is saddened that I was not told this because they knew daddy was fall risk. Please if you are thinking of placing a loved one here make sure you talk to the staff Doctor regarding protecting your parent in this manner. Restraints are very good if they are used properly to protect residents from injuring themselves. A Geri chair could perhaps have saved my daddy from standing and falling.

CONCERNS

We are having a VERY hard time communicating about Mom's pills. She may be forgetful, but she knows her pills. We have requested them to be given at breakfast and dinner MANY times and they still are not. Also, she is not getting them all. What else do we have to do? If they are not given properly tomorrow (Sat.) and Sun. we will call whomever is above the director at Saber in Green Ridge. We thought we were getting good care as far as everything is concerned. We also signed a blank care plan which we were told we would get before we left for FL. Did not get this. Please advise - are thinking this was not the Assisted Living to place Mom in.

needs improvements because they do have the opportunity to make some changes ...until they do that I would NOT .......

Friendliness ....to residents 2...to family 4. Quality of Care... 2 big gap in communication between the aides the med techs and physical therapy. Administrative staff... there have been 3 Exec Directors since my father got there mid November... and either one or two interim ED's. Quality of care... as we know in this industry it is very hard to find employees who truly care about the elderly and have a passion for respecting the residents as well as have compassion at the same time. Their " tasks" should not be a check in the box but an opportunity to make a difference in the residents day. I think there is a lot of opportunity for training retraining and then supervision and follow up that the new skills are being utilized. Friendliness... I would say poor as far as the staff to the residents.... their lack of respect for the residents as people .. rush rush rush from their meals to changing depends etc... As far as the staff to the family... as a general rule very kind... one or two that could improve but you can't change attitude so I would say thorough interviews... would be an added best practice Activities: They just got an activities employee within the last month... previous to that there were not activities that I personally saw and no activity calendar posted. Value for the money... if the staff were doing all the things they were supposed to do I would say yes good value however so many corners are cut. Needs improvements because they do have the opportunity to make some changes... until they do that I would NOT recommend putting a family member there.

Do Not Recommend

When my Mom entered Gabriel Manor the staff both in care and administrative were excellent. Starting Jan 2024 there has been constant turnover with care workers due to administration treating these people badly. Unfortunately, the care has deteriorated. If my mother wasn't in such a deteriorated state, I would move her. I would never recommend Gabriel Manor.

Meadowview review

I was deceived believing that I would have physical and occupational therapy in a gym equal or better than the rehab facility that I was in. I was also told that I would have transportation to and from my doctor appointments in Chapel Hill. Neither were true. Therefore. I had to find outside services and pay [fee removed] one way to my doctor visits. I left because for me I did not see the value for what I was paying. Besides meals were barely decent or nutritional for diabetic. It was an overpriced hotel with assistance. The Executive Director is aware how disappointed I was directly and through her staff. Although she never addressed how my stay was going. There were several staff members that respected and truly cared for the residents. Not many residents were satisfied with the food or accommodations with there needing repairs for several bathrooms. Maybe for the resident population the OT & PT was adequate , however for a higher functioning person they will need to have to get outside therapy. It's hard to say if I would or wouldn't recommend. I know definitely I would not recommend to those needing memory care to become a resident at Meadowview. They do not have the staff to take care of them or the accommodations.

Poor Management and Care

Do not let the nice looking pictures fool you, this place has major problems! There is currently a Class Action Lawsuit against against Gabriel Manor and other Saber Health facilities. They are on their fourth executive director in two years, staff turnover overall is ridiculously high, complaint by loved one that CNA spoke to her in a demeaning way, medication errors and failure to give meds, failure to notify family when loved one is sick or seen by the "doctor", BM odors in the hallway, inconsistent with ADL's, food and liquid spills on dining room floor two hours after a meal. Meals were great when there was an actual chef but even this has gone downhill in recent months. I have personally seen all this and more!

Not like it's advertised

Where to begin...I'm a family member. I'll start with my initial reactions. The grounds are awful, messy and no place to relax in this nice weather other than a couple of seats in front and they are always filled. The patio areas seem to me like big cages with broken furniture. Not sure what happened with those. Inside, it's a clean, newer building. The front desk woman, Bernece, is lovely and very helpful since day one. The home is not very creative in it's design choices inside but still has that new feel. No obvious smells in the hallways, no signs of issues at a glance, it seems clean. Having talked with some of the other people who live there on my visits, they seem fairly pleased with the physical living arrangements as they are. Spent a little more time there and spoke to those residents and some issues became a little more apparent. I'm semiretired so I make some visits, usually in the morning, but also have visited during the evening a few times. I will add that I'm retired from health care so I know a little bit about regulations. Staff and staffing seem not so good (actually in all honesty, it seems bad). I heard someone yell and saw someone sitting on the floor in their room one day. I was the one who went to find a staff member and it took forever and apparently there is no nurse in the building. No one is even in the hall at night and a couple of lights were on for a very long time several times and staff attitudes seem very cold. I've heard them complaining in the hallway. My family member told me they complained to the administrator of the place and his attitude was "even worse". I've actually witnessed him admonishing loudly someone in the hall. I won't go into it here but it was mean and very inappropriate for me to hear. I hope that doesn't happen often. I do know about HIPPA and common respect. Other residents nearby during a recent visit heartily told me that nothing they have asked for has gotten done. "we asked him at a meeting but nothing ever changes" "he doesn't even talk to us""what are you going to do, other places in the area are worse" "the food is terrible but they don't care, they're cheap" "I don't want to complain, I'll get in trouble with him" I know they seem to have a big turnover because everyone is different often. It seems to be getting worse there instead of better. I don't make the decisions for my family member but I know it's expensive. I suggested a move at one point but they don't want to and that part isn't my business.
