Right At Home

The first girl we had was good, but not very reliable. The first day they couldn't get the girl to show up. They weren't very reliable in general, since the next person they sent wasn't very punctual either. We weren't able to keep a consistent person. Another caregiver that came out wasn't very professional. We just didn't have a great experience with them.

It's only been a month since attempting to utilize services with Right at Home. We've already had 12 different caregivers and none of them are very informed as too what their job is or what they are supposed to do while there. All that I really care about is having someone there to make sure my Dad is safe while I'm at work and there has been times when they didn't even show up! I am not even sure that I will continue working with this agency at this point!

When you a loved one gets to the point where they need At Home Care givers, you want someone that you and your loved one can trust. You build a relationship with your loved ones care giver(s) and a bond is formed... The caregiver essentially becomes a part of the family. This caregiver learns the best ways to care for your loved ones and knows what does/doesn't work. They become routine and the duties of the job don't need to be reiterated every time they come to your home. They know how to help your loved one from the bathroom (because it can be challenging), once they learn and know... your loved one trusts them. 1 solid caregiver is ideal, 2-3 other REGULARS will suffice. With that being said... This agency is great if you don't really care who is treating for your loved one... they will be cared for by different caregivers every other day. Your loved one with have to repeat over and over the duties to each and every new caregiver that walks into their house... because believe me. there will be alot of various different ones. So don't get too attached to just one of them, because as soon as you do the people that are behind those desks at the agency will catch on. They will take them away from you and send you brand new ones for your loved one to deal with. Repeat everything and anything they need because those caregivers haven't build the rapport and they just won't know the routine. They won't have that opportunity because they will get moved to someone else's home the next day. All of this can be a very frustrating, emotional and draining roller coaster ride for your loved one. I wouldn't recommend this agency to anyone who needs care like my mother needs. I want my mother to be at peace and live a life without hassle, worry and confusion. Needless to say, my mother has since moved on to a new agency and is now, unfortunately, experiencing similar situation again... So soon we will be doing a further investigation on the next agency we choose to go with. It is so hard to make conscious decisions if no one writes honest reviews... Good luck with your search... P.S. Spanish-speaking caregivers are not currently readily available with this agency. Only a small fraction of their caregivers are bi-lingual.

The person I spoke with when I was looking into a home aide for my Dad was very unprofessional, and did not inspire confidence in this service. I did not follow up with them after that.

the company is owned by a husband/wife team. Wife is lovely...couldn't be more helpful. The .husband, however, is a nightmare. At one point, he actually cursed at me over the phone. Far from professional behavior!

There were a lot of issues. They would be on the front porch with their cellphones and my loved one would be in the house on her own. They did clean and they somewhat cared for her. We did two split shifts and the aids would be fighting over whose job it was to give my loved one a shower. I had to get them outside because they were fighting in front of my loved one and making them nervous. They promised us a fresh nighttime aid that wouldn't sleep, come to find out she had to take a day job and wasn't fresh like they promised. Plus I was paying double the price, way double the price and they didn't even give us what they promised. We got the same sales pitch and didn't give them a second chance. They tried to throw the blame on me, claiming they did inspections, I never saw anybody come in.

I am feeling a little frustrated with Right at Home right now. We had a permanent aide and they were just great but went that care giver went on medical leave; all I have been getting is piece meal. They send a different person each day and it is making really difficult for me. I have to train and new person everyday on what we need and how we need it to be taken care. It has really been a pain for me. I hope that they get their act together or we will have to start looking elsewhere.

Staff skill level is questionable, as they pick from nursing students. Staff takes an online honesty test. Fees range from $19-$25/hr, with four hours minimum.

We had this company for my mom.Very disappointed.Aides fell asleep on the couch, they were late showing up so it made me late for work.The person on the phone was very unpleasant.

Nice care givers, poor office management. In less than three weeks we've had late shows once or twice each week. No backups available. Office must change.

The services as listed on the polished website (with stock photos) are not at all what we experienced. Caring was the furthest thing from what took place and my spouse was often left alone while an aide claimed she was in the home and was paid. There are no background checks done on employees and this is very dangerous as we sadly learned from our experiences with aides working under stolen identities. COVID testing was not done as the agency owner didn't want to pay for it. We learned from others in town that they were robbed by aides and care was sub par and erratic. This is not a business I would trust to "take care of" a loved one. The verbage on their website is just that; it is not reality. Lies and cover-ups are rampant. Please, we urge you, learn from our awful experiences with Right at Home.

I would never recommend this place to anyone in CT. Or elsewhere. The lady they sent spoke no English and couldn’t communicate with me or my mom whom she was suppose to be caring for. She was lazy and flooded the basement by clogging the toilet. She even overloaded the washer and almost had it in for repair. When I asked her to wipe the stove after use, she complained to you people on the phone saying I told her to clean the oven. Your company is a JOKE.

Caregivers are in constant flux and in general they are not very good. The first one sat in another room because he was 'giving space' to my dad. He had no involvement with him and did not even talk to him. He was supposed to leave at 3:00 but I caught him sitting in his car at 2:50. Saw this on my ring cameras. He did this for weeks until I figured out what was going on. 'Caregivers' are never trained or aware of what they are supposed to do in spite of writing up a document for them. On Monday, we had 3 different ones, and the first one that came, needed us to be the caregiver for her as she was so out of shape, all she could do was sit on the couch. Steer Clear

After my grandmother needed constant help we hired hired this company. From the beginning the people they sent were awful. They would show up late, or not at all with no prior warning. They would do the bare minimum when taking care of my grandmother, and sometimes even less. They would forget to feed her, refuse to clean up after she had an accident, refuse to talk with her unless she needed something. Otherwise they would be on thier phone in another room. Complaining to management did nothing as the next person they would send would be just as bad. I can not say enough awful things about them! We had to look elsewhere for help.

Caregivers, if you can even call them that, were constantly on their phones. They didn't help Dad to eat or drink and then afterwards, they didn't even help clean him up. They didn't encourage him to do any of the group activities, they just sat in the room all the time. They left him outside on the porch on a hot day for over an hour without water. The final straw was one of them falling asleep! Then they had the nerve to bill me for his time even thought I provided a photo of their employee sleeping. Don't use this company unless you want your loved one ignored. Absolutely disgraceful.

My Mother had 3 different aides since my Dad passed in 2014. The first one was ok but was reassigned once my Mom had surgery and rehab and was out of her house for 6 weeks. The 2nd one had diabetes, was incontinent, peed on my Mom's chair and denied it. She was also defensive, lazy and stupid. She couldn't bend because she was too fat, therefore she didn't like to clean anything. She couldn't count either but drove ok which I was happy to hear. The final one before my Mom passed in May unfortunately had to become a live in the last 2 months. She drank in the middle of the night, left the kitchen light on and blamed me, my brother, cousin, etc. She forgot to turn the oven off and close the garage door when she brought garbage out. She was 30 yrs younger than Mom and Mom had to remind her to do everything. Every night I called I had to make sure oven was off and garage door was closed. This is just a profit center for RAH, for $13 hr with no medical benefits what do you expect the get? All RAH aides "play" their clients, they think they are all rich widows. The owner was very defensive about her aides. Meanwhile she has a very shady background as a "former" lawyer. I miss Mom every day but glad we don't have to deal with this company any longer.

The aides are all lazy and "play" the clients whom they think are all rich. If they can sit all day and watch tv they will do so. Ask them to clean and they say not today. They want to do so on their schedule and are often defensive. One aide was incontinent and had diabetes and peed on my Mother's chair and denied it. My mother was sitting on the couch and does not have this issue. The last aide drank almost an entire bottle of her amaretto which was in the back of a closet. She denied it and said my cousin drank it. She left the kitchen light on in the middle of the night which sealed her fate. She also forgot to turn off the stove, close the garage door, take the clothes out of the washing machine....and still blamed my Mother. The aide swore on her children's lives that she was telling the truth. What do you want for $13 hr with no medical benefits? The owner has a real attitude and thinks are aides are all wonderful. Even her husband left her employ to get another job. What does that say about her? Stay far away from the RAH in East Brunswick.

[Name removed], Owner of Right at Home, is a very poor and unaccommodating businessman. The majority of the caregivers we have experienced are poorly trained and irresponsible. The website is all fluff for PR and falsely depicting the agency, there is nothing "exemplary" about the dozen or so caregivers we have experienced. We have had folks who arrive late, need to leave early, step out of the house while leaving the client unattended, arrive to work sick, bring in their germs into house, incompetent with minimal social skills with lower IQ than the elderly patient they look after, etc. More disturbing, the agency fails to check in with the family or aides to ensure a positive experience. I understand it's a business, but the lack of compassion or empathy is a major turn off. It has been a merry-go-round of poor aides, one after the other. Not a reliable agency, I would suggest looking elsewhere!

My experience here didn't get off to a good start, and never got better. I started with the director of one location, and was expecting to meet with him. When I showed up, it was this locations director that I met, as I had been transferred to this location without a word. Communication is a big issue with this agency. From my experience their employees aren't very well trained either, especially not with dementia. The first person we had was bossy, and didn't know what to do. They had to ask about what to do for almost everything. Along with that, they were unreliable. Because of the lack of communication, nobody showed up for two days. I never even got a phone call. Luckily, we came to see my loved one on the second day of someone not showing up. I would not recommend this agency to anyone. We have since changed agencies, and are much happier.

We had a difficult time with Right at Home right from the beginning. We didn't end up using this location but we started here. They transferred us to a different office, and never said anything to us. I thought I was coming to meet one director, but instead it was a completely different director from another office that showed up. Perhaps this should have been my first clue to a larger consistent issue with communication. We were transferred to their Northwest location, without word. The people they sent were not well trained or even exceptionally friendly. They were also not reliable, as there were two days that nobody showed up, or called to inform us that nobody would be showing up. Luckily we happened to be there for one of the days. I would not recommend their service, having dealt with two different locations, I can say that the communication issue at least is not isolated to one location.
