Preferred Care at Home

As long as you have a scheduled time I would recommend using them. They no longer do fill in appointments or assistance that I may need. I would not go back to them since they don't do fill ins for my care. The price is one of the better ones compared to the other companies.

Our experience with this home care agency has been a rocky one. I have actually had to work harder than I did before they came in and tried to help out. The staff here are very inexperienced, is my take yet they talk like they totally are onboard. I had 2 requirements - had to have a vehicle to take mom to drs appts and do errands and had to be able to move mom around. I have gone through 7 aides and in the beginning every aide arrived without a car, 1 aide could barely lift a gallon of milk, 1 aide stole my mom's medication, 2 aides could not communicate well, poor English, 1 aide sat all day and watched tv with my dad, which was a big no no in the instructions and 2 aides were 'ok', one of which I still use but she has no vehicle. I'm still trying to get 1 more aide but so far no one has met the 2 requirements. If I had to say one thing to anyone, be ready to do a lot of work to get a good aide. It's too bad because the people are nice, just not too efficient.

I'm not too thrilled with them. I've not been happy in the last couple of months. They never send me any bills. I have to keep up with that myself. I was using two girls that would rotate. One quit and they replaced her with one and I found out - I'm not sure if they knew this or not - that the girl was leaving at night and coming back the next morning and she was supposed to be there overnight. Here we are paying for 24 hours a day. I also found out she brough her dog with her to work and I leave money for them to buy groceries and she was left with some of it in her pocket.

I called several home care agencies in the Lansing area searching for someone to assist my elderly parents with transportation and light housekeeping tasks. I chose PCAH because after speaking with the owner [name removed], I felt that they were most able to provide care. [name removed] was willing to put their needs first in matching them with a caregiver and was personable and responsive on the phone prior to beginning care. The caregiver spent more time on their phone than engaging with my parents or caring for their needs, did fine when told what to do, but wasn’t really able to be proactive in helping without being asked. Then after just 3 days, they quit without notice, leaving my parents without transportation to a doctor appointment. [name removed] initially said he would find a replacement, but then stopped responding; he has not responded to my emails or returned my parents’ phone messages. I am disappointed; I question the entire industry’s business model of low wages that result in low commitment.

Dependability and accountability absolutely are not what this company is all about. Most of the employees they hire are not trained or experienced. Once we thought we had a good caregiver they were taken away for one reason or another. The person being cared for needs to have someone who is dependability and reliable for taking care of them. They need to feel safe with their caregiver, not this bouncing back-and-forth with a different person almost daily. Training of employees should be done at the business site, not in the home of the client. These clients who are elderly and sick should not be [Removed] for training. It has been nothing but total stress for the couple months that we had employed this company. We were told that they would do the best they could to relieve our stress and leave the care up to them, this did not happen. I would never recommend this company, thank you.

I am incredibly disappointed with how Preferred Care has now handled the situation with my mother. They treat you wonderfully when you are giving them large amounts of money. I had been paying significant amounts of money for the care of my mom since 2014. They were happy enough to send me the monthly bill which I paid although I saw no contract, signed no contract, didn't even know there was a contract. Instead - they had an 80+ year old woman supposedly sign something that she has no memory of and now they are suing her because after stopping their service - she decided to hire a former employee of theirs. Seriously? How do they sleep at night. Shame!!!! I will now have to waste more money I guess fighting their lawsuit for my elderly sick mom. AVOID THEM

We did not have a good experience with this Preferred Care, I wouldn't recommend them.

When first communicating with this agency everything was great! The coordinator was amazing and I really loved her willingness to help. The moment she left the agency things went downhill. There were problems with billing and nasty notices being sent to my Mom when she was never billed to begin with. Communication was horrible and I would never use their services again. They don't get a star from me.

This happened recently so we are still shaken by it. We hired them to care for our physically disabled daughter. After months of girls not showing, and not calling and not arriving on time, we had a horrendous experience a few days ago. The company has still not returned phone calls this entire past week, did not answer a single message when I was stuck with an unruly aide that refused to leave my home at the appointed time. Can you imagine having an aide that will refuse to leave your home at the appointed time??? Why would she do this??? It did not matter how many times or ways we told her to leave, her day was over, she would not budge She just stared at me defiantly when I told her to go. It was like being in the twilight zone. Then the next morning she let let self in an hour early while we were sleeping. We kept calling the owner at the company and our calls went to voicemail and still as of today, no return phone call whatsoever. Think this over very carefully. We found the staff NOT to be quality . How unprofessional can a company be to NOT answer messages or return phone calls at all?
