Maplewood Senior Living

I cannot say enough about Maplewood at Newtown staff for their outstanding precautions and care given to my mother during this pandemic. My mother along with my father ( who passed away three years ago) has been a resident for nearly five years. During this difficult time they have gone up and beyond to make sure that our family and myself ( who lives in New York City) knows that she is safe and well taken care of. The biggest compliment to the staff is to watch Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Levin honoring wellness nurse [name removed] - for everything she, her team and co-workers are doing for all the residents. That says it all. My mother is an independent, social, and active 94 year old that enjoys all the activities that are offered. I highly recommend Maplewood at Newtown.

I have been very impressed with how Maplewood has been treating my mother-in-law. We enjoy the email feedback from Maplewood that comes regularly, and we enjoy all the ideas that you have all come up with to help the residents feel loved. She seems peaceful every time we visit her. We have no complaints. We know that you are all being as loving as possible. We have always seen that. However, Maplewood has helped her immensely when it comes to the subject of balancing all of her medication and needs. It seems like such a delicate balance, and we are so grateful, and we do not want to mess with that perfect balance that seems to have been achieved. One year ago, she was helping me and we had lunch together and she drove herself everywhere and her memory seemed perfect. Her loss of memory happened so quickly, and she also had broken the vertebrae when she fell down in her condo, so she went from being perfectly self-sufficient to having that back problem with full-fledged dementia within such a short time. It made me feel comfortable knowing that she would be in good hands down there in that unit.

I was very impressed with Maplewood. The place was beautiful. The staff friendly and very helpful. The common areas were well laid out and clean. The food was amazing. Highly recommended.

Maplewood is spotless and their standards are extremely high because they care so much about the people who live there. The food is amazing, they take it very seriously. The food preparation and presentation is clearly a passion. I love that the nurses have great visual access. And they do not skimp on activities either. They are always looking out for ways to add fulfillment and keep up with technology because that is what their families need from them. They have a great location, just off of Rt 8; easy access from anywhere in Akron, its eastern suburbs or the southeaster burbs of Cleveland. The staff is fantastic; proud of where they work. Highly recommend. Go visit. Call them.

As a professional in the senior services industry, I am continually impressed with Maplewood's top notch amenities. From the time you walk in the door, you feel like you're in a beautiful immaculate home. The staff is friendly and caring and make you feel like family. I highly recommend Maplewood.

My parents moved to Mayflower in December 2016 and it continues to be a great choice 3 1/2 years later. The staff is top notch, from the Executive Director who knows each resident, to the head of lifestyle activities who plans a wide variety of activities which my parents really enjoy, to the dining staff who create and serve delicious meals which are beautifully presented, to the fitness staff and health care staff and all the support staff. Last month my father passed away and my Mom received so much support, attention and care from the staff and her fellow residents; she is very thankful to be staying in her apartment at Mayflower. Right now the Mayflower is following strict guidelines during Covid-19, and is focussed on keeping their residents and staff safe. The Exec Director is excellent at communicating with families with regular updates during this time of uncertainty. I am very glad that Mom is a resident at Mayflower.

My mom has really thrived since moving there. The activities have really helped her , she made friends, the caregivers are always there and always friendly and in good spirits. Their tie with her church sealed the deal as she can have services weekly in their chapel. The grounds and buildings are well thought out and extremely nice. this is a great place to age . Dementia care and their ability to deal with the disease as it progresses is a real benefit.

I work with a client as a private care partner in this facility and they are very helpful, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work besides. They are attentive to my client, take my concerns and input seriously and make me feel like part of the family. They also take their responsibility to my client very seriously always making sure to do their part for them and not relying on me.

I am a resident here and have lived here for a while. I didn't think living away from my family I would find family but I have. I have great friends and a lot of fun every day. We always have weekly music programs, good conversations with our friends and a lot of chances to do interesting things. I can tell my aids really love me. I like the food and the dining staff spoils me.

Hard transition at first . I went from a 8 bedroom house in a rush due to my partner's health. I'm very happy here, everyone has been wonderful. Really great, friendly. I'm rediscovering things I like and getting around more.

Elegant, well appointed, lovely dining room and modern architecture with a cozy feel. It felt like a 4 star hotel. I liked the availability of extra services as my parents age. The food looked great, and the cookies I received at my visit were delicious. My only hesitation is the price. For the neighborhood, the price is good, but it is high.

I found Maplewood through my advisor who highly regarded Maplewood as the right place for us. My mother was incapable of properly taking care of herself and for months refused to leave her home. I was very impressed with the salesperson who continued to be friendly and helpful for months after residency. Transitioning had its issues but the Maplewood team worked very hard to make it all work. Today, my mother is safe and happy and everybody at Maplewood treats her with respect and dignity.

Maplewood at Brewster is an absolutely wonderful place for Memory Care or in addition assisted and Independent living. In particular I was totally amazed at how incredible the staff, services, facility and food were during my 16 months there with my wife [name removed] who had Early Onset Alzheimer's. I took all my meals with her plus sometimes stayed for activities. After supper [name removed] watched a Netflix movie with her friends while I went home to feed the dog returning to watch TV in her room with her. I have firsthand knowledge of quite a number of Memory Care facilities because both my mother in law and sister in law passed away from Alzheimer's. I have also been a member of the Alzheimer's association for 25 years through which I have become very familiar with what is required in Memory Care. Maplewood at Brewster far exceeds any of those requirements. The staff is just extraordinary in their kindness, care and compassion for all of the residents in Memory Care. They all go out of their way to insure that the needs of everyone are well taken care of with great understanding of what it takes to deal with the various issues of dementia in all of its challenging forms. There are optional activities throughout the day of all sorts to keep residents engaged and involved where the staff is well trained in being able to get through the fog of dementia. Music is a good part of it all which has been shown to be one of the best ways to get through to people with dementia. Every week there may be several musical groups to entertain as well as always having sing-alongs etc. Each day features discussion of lighthearted items like what happened on this day in history etc. There are also games and art projects to enjoy for residents who want. Beyond all of this there are also once or twice weekly out and about trips on a handicap equipped Maplewood van with a guide and assistants taking those who wish on short tours and trips to various nearby places around Cape Cod. This can be anything from a trip to the beach and other scenic places to getting ice cream etc. Memory Care at Maplewood at Brewster is an extraordinary facility in itself featuring two beautiful lounges with big screen TV, a wonderful art room, library and magnificent outdoor courtyard. The courtyard which is completely secure features an outdoor fireplace, pergola, covered picnic tables and benches. It is all beautifully landscaped with a short paved path where residents can walk around the garden in season. As to the food it is all absolutely delicious featuring restaurant quality items with choices at each meal. The variety is amazing ranging across the board from wonderful local seafood and meats to local garden vegetables. There is an endless variety of fresh made great tasting deserts. All of this is served by the very attentive staff in the most amazing dining room with open kitchen where you can see the chef at work. In case it is not obvious I consider Maplewood at Brewster to be the finest facility of its kind anywhere for Memory Care or assisted and independent living for that matter. Any person with dementia issues given their situation is sure to get the most out of life when living there due to the extraordinary staff, wonderful activities, amazing facility and outstanding food.

My mother had been living alone in her own home and was not eating or taking her medications properly. My mother is thriving living at Maplewood at Weston! I toured several other communities and found that Maplewood had the right balance of amenities and services. She has met new friends and is never in her apartment. She loves the exercise programs with [name removed] and is using the pool 3 days a week. Thank you Maplewood for making my mother's transition to senior living so positive!

I have lived here for a while though I don't remember how long. I've got good friends here and a lot of good people who take care of me. I have a lot of fun and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Brand new building that has amazing location with water features that is top notch among other communities. i was very impressed with the building, i would highly recommend this community.

I searched several communities in Connecticut for my Mom including Maplewood in Newtown, Churhill and Ridgefield Crossings. We chose Maplewood in Newtown because the residents and staff we met were friendly, the turn over among staff was low, the community has been in Newtown for over ten years and the nursing team was experienced and had a LPN on site 24 hours per day. Since my Mom has been living at Maplewood, she has been eating more healthy, gaining more social interaction, intellectual stimulation and meeting new friends. Initially, my mom was not happy moving. But she is thriving and I have peace of mind that she is well cared for and living in a beautiful place where she is safe.

My Dad always told me it was his “job” to worry. As he ages, the worry has shifted. I know I am NOT alone. Dad is a retired Veteran who suffers from PTSD and depression, so it is hard for him to socialize. He was sitting too much, in pain from inactivity and was becoming forgetful. Shortly after moving to Mayflower, his color is back, he is certainly walking better with an improved posture, balance, AND his memory improved as he began moving around a socializing. His doctor even noticed! Every member of the staff knows him, knows what is going on in his life, and converses with him. He has meals with friends, and he is never alone. I work in the healthcare field and stay in hotels about 120 nights per year for business, so I admittedly have extremely high standards in terms of care, environment and meals. Maplewood at Mayflower impresses me. I sleep well at night knowing he is living in an independent, supportive and gorgeous environment, right down to the dinnerware and incredible meals prepared by a chef, (who I should probably meet and provide a thank you personally!”
