Not Perfect, but A Good Community

Unfortunately I don't think there is a community that is perfect, but overall my wife, and I am satisfied with my mother in laws move to this facility. I was visiting my mother in law while my wife was out of town. During that time her room was clean, and looked fine. When my wife got back her room was a mess. I would say the cleanliness needs to be more consistent. When we bring our concerns up to the director, she does listen, and is empathetic. However the same thing will keep happening. We do like the fact they are encouraging to her to get involved in the community. They have plenty activities available. The chef is very kind, and the meals are fine. Nothing is perfect, but with all the community's we have been at, this is one I would recommend overall.

communication between the staff and family needs improving

At Brighton Gardens of Northville the communication between the staff and family needs improving. We had some questions on how he is doing and how things are going but because of the changing shifts there isn't good communication. We did put a log book in his room to help this. I also don't think there is as good as a patient to staff ratio as some other facilities. The property is fairly compact and I do wish there was more room to roam around. In general it is a nice place overall. I would say things are going good but not perfect.

The staff is not all they are cracked up to be.

The staff is not all they are cracked up to be. They are not good at record keeping and nothing seems to get written down if they fall. They don't do as much as they could or should. I think they should check in on them every couple of hours at night, and they don't. The communication and charting is not good. I like that they have so much entertainment, and it's a beautiful place. Things are pretty clean, but in the room it looks clean but is not as clean as it could be. We tried to have him ready so we could pick him up to go out, and they didn't have him ready. Their food is awesome.

Review for Fairmont of Northville

The cleanliness is not great. Staff are nice and responsive, but do have to ask them to do laundry or help with toileting and other basic things when visiting. Food is bland, but residents seem to like it. They drink a lot of sugary drinks. They have good activities but could be better about encouraging residents to participate. Rooms are adequate.

our family's experience

The food is all fried and unhealthy for those with obesity or cardio issues, and its not tasty...Also , if a family member eats with resident , it shouldn't be outlandishly expensive. However, with improvements we would recommend Fairmont on Clayton to other families.

not for everyone

the common areas are nice, but the rooms are old and outdated with poor lighting and amenities. windows bolted shut in room so could not even get an inch of fresh air. some nice staff, however many residents seemed unfriendly and unwelcoming. same issues our loved one had at home persisted here such as not changing clothing or showering which was part of the reason for moving to a place like this. staff pushed for additional services that were not wanted such as hospice. residents smoking at the front door is kind of a turn off. Cinnamon was wonderful.

Some Small improvements Good experience overall

Based on the experience we have had so far, we think they have some improvements to help better the experience - communication (i.e patient adapting/not adapting). How to pay, and the doctors name.

Find a different place. We picked this community because the offered 24 hour nursing. They need to improve with upper management and communication. Also Sales, they tell you all kinds of things intake that do not prove to be true.

I Toured This Community

This community is a little outdated. The rooms were too small for my loved one. The residents had to use an elevator to go get their meals, which isn’t the best way for memory care residents in my opinion. The staff was very professional and friendly when we visited the community.

better than average, but use caution

the food is poor quality in the memory care unit; whereas on the assisted living side the food is leaning towards a 5/5. same thing with the activities. memory care residents just watch tv all day long, and nothing else. the value for the cost is low, with respect to expectations. I've been to over 40 senior communities and facilities in the Detroit area. I have seen both good and bad places. when you walk into Brighton Gardens, it doesn't smell and it looks good. but the memory care is sequestered from the rest of community and its really lacking. I was talking to director there and was told that my dad was given hotdogs 3 out of 5 days and sandwiches with oven heated French fries on other days - I was livid. the director replied, "I wouldn't mind having hotdogs every day of week". that was not what I wanted to hear because that's not what we're paying for. it wasn't until then that he told us we could go out into the main dining room where there's a variety of different foods and choices - so whenever my mom comes to visit, she'll try and take him out there to get better food. the memory care residents don't know how to speak up for themselves, as they aren't cognitive of the quality of meals and variety that should be there. we're currently trying to figure out how we can transition him back home and into a home healthcare agency.
