This community is hurting for residents, we toured this community last week. They were offering free rent, free moving expenses. The reason is not all of their staff has been vaccinated, how do you run a senior living community with the possibility exposing the elderly to covid again. The person giving us the tour let it slip that they lost a lot to pneumonia (which in February 2020) and have continued during last year. They used to have a professional nurse around the clock (24/7), but the company has changed direction. They don’t have a nursing home, but we were told that they did away with something called enhanced care, but it was still in our brochure information. The activities were minimal, they seem to stop before 4pm when we came out for our tour. It looks like there is only 1 or 2 actual activities on each day during the weekend. But a ton of Bingo and exercise every morning. Very expensive and so are they levels of care. We saw Elmcoft of Reading and Amity Place.

My parents live in this facility and since COVID their care has gone downhill. They are working hard to keep the reidents safe to an extent that is militant. They are not at all concerned about resident's mental health and they are not flexible or innovative in trying to connect resident's and families or resident's to anyone that might offer mental stimulation. They are clearly only concerned about their bottom line and they won't do things like add staff to increase resident contact to other people. I have asked my parents to consider moving.

We didn't have a good experience. My mother was in their memory care wing and she had health issues. One of those was she fell while in this community and they didn't find her for potentially three hours. This lead to her been unresponsive for 10 days in the hospital. She also had other health issues and eventually lead to a pace maker. We went in regularly and she was always sleeping. She was quiet and overlooked by the care staff. The care staff was understaffed, as they had 3 to every 20 patients. My brother wanted followups from my mother's fall and we never received any follow ups. We were unable to see the Nurse who was in charge, as we only saw the floor staff. The administration did their work. It was pay by month.

My mother says she is treaded kindly by everyone there. My low rating is for the person that toured us told us lies and mislead our family. We trusted this individual and wrote a check only to find out later that the place was not what she had sold us. It is also our fault for rushing through the paperwork.

Our mother has been a resident of The Crossings at Bon Air in Richmond, VA for 8 years. During this period, she has reported to management there continuing problems with poor quality meals and poor service in their dining room. This is unfortunate, as our mother and other residents look forward to socializing over a decent evening meal. Until management recognizes and fixes this problem, we cannot recommend The Crossings.

Heritage Green would not be a place where I would want my mother placed for a respite stay. The rooms are semi private, crowded, with twin beds and if you are lucky enough to get one without another resident it isn’t guaranteed that it will continue for the duration of your stay. The option to pay additional for a private room was not offered. Also, their respite care is on an “as available” basis and while they will keep the lines of communication open, I was told to have a back up plan in place in case this falls through at the last minute.

I had a tour appointment with Holly who was not available. Sandra gave me a brief tour. Due to a renovation of part of the building, her office was moved to the recreation room. The facility had a hospital smell and no unoccupied models were available to show. Overpriced.

My mother would have been in Cardinal 3 years this January 2018 but was told she had to leave this past October. My mother started out in Independent Living and things were pretty good there. She then had a few falls and her dementia was slowly getting worse so we were told by[Removed], the director of nursing that our mom should move to the Assisted Living side. We asked how long our mom could stay there. We were told until the end unless mom needed to be hoisted because of weight or if she did not have a DNR. Well mom was 100 lbs and yes she did have a DNR but she still was pushed out. Mom contracted MRSA and was sent to Kennedy Hospital, now Jefferson. The hospital treated her and told us she could return to Cardinal, Cardinal refused to take her back. They said it was to protect the other residents. The Drs. at Kennedy and the administration both spoke with Cardinal Village telling them there was no reason our mother could not return. They told Cardinal if every resident was tested for MRSA more than half would test positive that MRSA is in a lot of nursing homes. Cardinal still refused her and the hospital and us had to force mom into Kennedy Rehab. She was there longer than usual and necessary because Cardinal continued to fight us and told us mom needed more care. Bottom line is, yes she needed more care and they did not want to give it to her. Our question was then why did you tell us she could stay until the end if this wasn't going to be the case. Our guess was that now mom was Medicaid and they weren't getting as much money as they did before. All her money was gone. They now could put a private pay resident in my mom's apartment and get more money. I have to say my mom's nurses were very nice and we really did not have many issues with nursing. Although her 6:30 am medicines were always found on the floor because mom throw them out when the nurse left. Obviously they just handed them to her and left or she [Removed] them out when they left. At night the nurses pretty much made sure she took them. Mom's bathroom and kitchen was cleaned very little. I would clean both floors at least twice a week and they were very dirty. I showed the nurses and they told me to tell housekeeping, nothing ever changed. This is all behind us now as our mom is in Kennedy Nursing home. I would never suggest Cardinal Village to anyone, we believed we were deceived by [Removed] more than once.

This place deserves a zero rating. It's probably fine for residents who can "fend for themselves." But for people with dementia who can't speak or stand up for themselves, it is substandard care. Keystone Villa has no business accepting those kinds of residents.

Always short staffed. Rarely saw anyone come into my mom's room while there so I assume that was the standard. Long waits if she called for help. They did not care about how they dressed her. Often just a sweater on top( my mom was ALWAYS cold which we told them. And provided them with warm undershirts. Clothes on backwards, inside out, not matching. Hair rarely combed.

My Mother went there on [date removed] every time we ever visited which was often she was in her room alone. They never did anything for her when I visited I washed her hair and her clothes. On [date removed] she fell and broke her hip at six o’clock in the evening no one came and got her for dinner so she was alone. She passed away[date removed]. No one even called to ask about her. She had dementia but she was happy and conversing when she went in and every week she declined. I have been a nurse for 30 years I know what it means to care for people my Mother received no care and my family received no compassion at all. Please stop recommending this place to families.

My Mom is a resident on the independent living side of this facility and has not been able to receive incoming calls on her house phone since last July. She has trouble hearing her cell phone and at times it is difficult to reach her. Complaining has done nothing to alleviate the situation, always told corporate is holding it up. My Mom is very old and I worry for her safety and find it an atrocity that no one seems to understand the importance of a phone or care enough to fix this issue!!!

I moved my mother out of the Birches after 3 months. The overall experience was poor. The did not provide any updates on her condition. They tried to move her to memory care when it was not needed. Total money grab. The Executive Director provides no assistance. After we moved my mother to another facility., I asked her how they treated her and she said good evening when you are not here. This told me she was not treat very well at the Birches. They are not proactive. Never provided any information on my mother's condition. I needed to initiate any care requests. Never got my mother to go to the dining hall. Always delivered her food at a cost of [fee removed] per meal. Total [fee removed] per day. I would not recommend the Birches at Harleysville. Not patient friendly.

My love one with Alzheimer’s was isolated for 5 days with mild Covid. Family was denied visitation, no updates as promised by the Nurse. Day 6 got call from ER, not the Birches, that she was admitted unresponsive, severely dehydrated, lost 12 pounds. She was only in the Birches for 16 days. As a result, she is now in skilled nursing, puréed food, difficulty swallowing and unable to walk. Would definitely not recommend for your loved ones.

Do not to bring their loved one to Heritage Hill. The management pretends to care about the residents, but it is totally phony. They lied to me and my family, telling us their doctor wanted my father to go to the hospital for psych tests, for which they needed our permission. The truth was they were actually throwing my father out due to an incident their doctor claimed took place, which they didn't inform us about at all. Some unneeded medical tests and NO PSYCH testing even being ordered at the hospital showed no medical problems, then the hospital informed us Heritage Hill refused to take my father back. We were shocked! We had no idea what was happening! Heritage Hill had lied to us to get him out and didn't even have the decency to tell us anything. There had been no prior problems, so we were left dumbfounded. Their doctor, [name removed], blacklisted my father so that no nursing homes would take him, except the not so great one where he spent the last few months of his life, never causing any incidents, even after his dementia progressed. Heritage Hill was not what it seemed. Their handling of our situation was unconscionable and extremely detrimental to my father and to my healthy mother. I wish A Place for Mom never referred us to Heritage Hill. This was the worst experience of our lives.
