A great place for our mom.

My mother-in-law is currently a resident here. She has only been there for about two months but has handled the transition beautifully. I honestly have to say that it is a wonderful facility. The best part about the place is the staff. They are genuinely engaged and pleasant with each resident. There are lots of activities from Bingo, to Rumikub, to shopping outings every week. They bring in musical entertainment as well as visiting pets for the residents to enjoy. She even says the food is good. It was important for her to maintain her independence while having the security of a community and the access to physical care should she need it.

My experience with Hickory Glen

The food here was alright when I first moved in, but once the pandemic hit it went downhill. They had to make food they could bring to you and deliver them into the rooms. I do think that the value for the money is good especially because of the food quality.

Mom likes the people there and i like the security

Mom seems to enjoy living at Evergreen. So far she has made some new friends, but also some of the women there can be difficult to get along with. I, or other relatives visit her a couple times a week. She likes most of the food there, but we bring her some homemade food and take her out to a restaurant from time to time. Most of the people working there are very friendly and helpful to mom. Her room is small, but she has it furnished it the way she likes. The shower is quite small compared to the one she is used to and only has a curtain compared to a door, which she prefers. So far so good.

Care and quality are in rapid decline

Mom has been relatively happy at Evergreen Place for the 2.5 yrs she’s been there. However, in the last 6 mos employees are leaving, meals have been cut from 2 to 1 entree choice, the “any time” menu has been slashed to 1/3 of what it was, meal time has been cut from 1.5 hrs to 1 hr and the quality of food is in decline. One of the 3 mgrs used to work on weekends, not any more. There used to be several RN’s, not any more. I felt that mom was safe there, I’m questioning if there was an emergency in the evening/overnight if there is anyone there to answer it. My understanding is that an RN from outside the facility can be called in. This is unacceptable. The staff that’s left are kind and do their best. My understanding is the new CEO of Heritage is cutting service, care, quality to make more money. I’m hoping the owner of the facility will take note and make some changes in management so Evergreen Place can return to the wonderful facility it was 2 yrs ago.

This facility was definitely 2nd rate compared with Bickford. The tour guide was nice, but she's the receptionist and we could tell she really wasn't prepared to give a tour. Compared to Bickford, the rooms were smaller, didn't have many lights, didn't have seat in the shower, didn't have a low entrance to shower and less closet space with no place to hang her hanging clothess.

Inflexible

While friendly enough, they didn't impress us. The facilties were nice but they weren't what she needed, the services were fine but the transportation services weren't as easily used. It is an independent living facility but they do have assisted living and those sorts of services as needed but they were not as flexible.

Not Really Assisted Living

They did a good job with what they had, but as soon as they required more care they wouldn't keep them. Not much of an assisted living facility, and different than what we had been led to believe. The CNA's were expected to clean and do dishes and feed all the residents, but they weren't allowed to assist if someone fell - they had to call ambulance. There was no nurse on staff, just one on call. There was only one CNA to every ten residents, and they just couldn't give the care.

Not what we expected!

We were sold this facility as an assist facility, they knew my mom needed assistance. Mom moves in and barely there an hour and find out they are a no assist facility. Not happy. They would stand over her while she tried her hardest to get out of bed. How humiliating! She was only there ten days.

Horrible

Horrible. CNA’S walk from room to rooms with the same PPE on/Gloves. Management sucks and they don’t give there residents showers at all. The night shift doesn’t have CNA’S to care for your loved one because Agency doesn’t show up when they say they are! If you don’t pick up extra shifts they treat you like garbage. The New D.o.N is unprofessional. It’s a mess

Would not feel comfortable having my loved ones here

I don't normally write reviews but I was very disappointed with Villa West. The location is great and the most of the staff were helpful. The quality food was . . . not great. My biggest concern however is with the director. When I came to [Removed] (the director) with concerns about the care my aunt was receiving she became difficult and argumentative. It seems that my experience was similar to that of the other reviewers. [Removed], dealing with her was a very upsetting experience and I wish I had never made the decision to trust her (and Villa West) with the care of my aunt. We have since moved her to another assisted living facility and things seem to be going a lot better. Please don't make the same mistake I did! : (

Not a good experience

My father was in an assisted living facility for over 3 years before we made the move to the Villa. So we had a good idea about what it is like to be a resident in AL. My initial contact with the director went pretty well. It all sounded wonderful and she made several claims and promises about what life is like at Villa. However, almost immediately after she received the signed papers and initial payment, her tone changed. Things were not as promised in several areas. From the time he was awakened in the morning, to how they handled showers in the evening, promises were not kept. There was a repair needed that went unresolved for his entire 4 month stay and there was no hot water in his apartment for the first two weeks. The food was not good as a general assessment. We had a meal before he moved in and the meal was excellent. We could choose from two entrees and the meal was hot and delicious. I am not sure what happened between enjoying that meal and the time when he moved in, but that all changed. The choices of two entrees were no longer available and the quality was quite disappointing in taste, appearance and temperature. There is a separate “anytime” menu to choose from but its choices were quite limited. In my opinion, the biggest problem we faced was the seeming unprofessionalism of the director. She was at times accusatory, angry and confrontational. It became a place that was filled with tension and stress; not what assisted living should be about. Most of the rest of the staff were competent and kind, but could not work at their fullest because of micro-management from above. I moved my Dad out after 4 months and he is now comfortable, well-fed, and well taken care of in a different facility. Most importantly he is living without unnecessary stress and tension. This was not a decision made lightly as it is a very difficult thing to move someone who is older. But it was the best and only decision.

Frightening.

We toured the facility and it is beautiful. Promises were made that were pure lies. After payment was made everything changed. When I advocated for my loved one, the director became hostile and unprofessional! Over and over I saw that this place was run by fear and manipulation. I was screamed at by the director and it was not helpful to reach out to the owners. I was terrified to leave my family there. We also witnessed others being belittled, and bullied. So many were afraid to even speak up in fear of the consequence. If your loved one needs any actual CARE, do NOT go there.

Terrible!

I echo the previous reviewer's assessment of this facility. The facility itself is beautiful, but look below the surface, and it is highly disfunctional. I place the entirety of the blame squarely on the director. As the previous reviewer stated, she made many promises prior to the move in that were not delivered on. Looking back, the signs were all there - any question we asked was met with "over the top" promises. If it sounds too good to be true... Once my mother was moved in, the food declined dramatically until it was virtually inedible. Staff turnover was enormous, due to the management of the director. The director spied on her staff, screamed and yelled at them, lied about them to residents and families, if questioned, and was overall [Removed]. She also yelled and was very confrontational with me when I questioned some of the shortcomings. We moved my mother out as quickly as we could. Don't be filled by the appearance or the false promises. This place is horrible!
