We give the overall experience at 4, it would be a five if they hadn't fired so many other really good staff they had there, and change their leadership so many times. However, yes we would recommend this...

She loved it at Cappella of Grand Junction! The care was wonderful. It is a good place. Lots of activities and church services. Friendly people, and a good menu for all meals.

This community was nice and clean but the size just did not work for what I was looking for for my loved one.

It is really hard to judge a community given the current circumstances, and I do think The Retreat is doing exactly what everyone is else is doing and trying to navigate through the pandemic. It hasn't been perfect, in the beginning of our loved ones move in the communication was really lacking, and at times we were left very confused. However, that has really improved and they are going above and beyond putting the residents safety first, being cautious and taking care of them. That we really appreciate, and commend them for.

We toured Capella of Grand Junction and it was a great facility and they gave a very nice presentation. It was too pricey though for what we were looking for.

I would suggest you make sure the community matches the needs of your loved one. I wasn't aware that there was no nursing care onsite for my loved one. The communication with staff and family was fine.

There current director of the community is leaving due to retirement at the end of December. She made several changes for the better. The community had several activities for the residents prior to COVID. There is a new activities director and she is very good with the residents. My loved one loves the community, her apartment, the food and the chef.

WE toured this facility about a week ago. We really liked the lay out of the facility. However, it was a little too far from our homes in PUeblo to make it easy to visit. We have decided to go with an independent facility.

This community seemed more like a nursing home and this was not what we were looking for at this time. The community was clean and the people we met were nice.

As I was chatting with Carolyn Spear, the director of 12 years, a resident stepped into her office. I asked what the resident thought was the best thing about Legacy Commons. Without hesitation, she replied, "The People!"

This was one of our top two choices. We really liked the one bedroom option here. It was very nice, when it came down to making a decision, Mom made it herself. She chose the other one in our top two. It just was a better fit personality wise.

We picked this community, because it appeared clean and it's only 7 minutes from our home. Care isn't very good. If the person says they don't want their medication they just say ok and leave, they don't try to convince them to take it.

Quality of care and med management? Med management needs review. I would tell others looking that I think they need to ask specific questions about personal care and medication management. i.e. they need to look carefully at the cost of medications through the facility's pharmacy and the $[removed]/month fee for using your own pharmacy. Ask about the caregiving staff to client ratio in the area your family member will be residing in. Will they be able to provide the level of care your loved one will require? At what cost? Get specific. What constitutes a raise in the level of care (costing you more per month). Who determines the care level?

It's very nice inside. The food was good. The quality seems better than at other places. The people are nice and friendly with both my loved one one and myself. They definitely could use more caregivers. Sometimes it takes over half an hour when you page for someone, and that's too long.

My mother was here for about 4 months. Care depends on the caregiver who finally answers the call button. Some caregivers have education, experience and care, offering excellent service. Most caregivers have little to no training or experience. One caregiver asked what DNR meant on my mom's bracelet. Wearing gloves for the caregivers seemed optional when assisting with personal hygiene. Medicine, personal hygiene items ordered and delivered through hospice were often missing. My mother waited for over an hour and no one answered her call button. She fell out of her chair trying to get to her wheel chair. No one from Sunny Vista called any of the family to let us know and when we brought it to their attention, the administration went mute. No apology and then it happened a second time! Meal service was a long drawn out ordeal. Ordering could take 10 - 20 minutes, then usually 20-30 minutes to receive the meal. In the months my mother was there, it seemed the dining staff was in great flux. Actually caregiver turnover was very high, always new staff. Seems top heavy in administrative staff who wander around the lobby and dining room but have little to do with residents.

My mother was in memory care for about a month and a half after being in the hospital and rehab. The very first thing I told the nurse [name removed] when I got there is I wanted my mom up in her wheelchair for meals and not in bed all day. She had just spent 6 weeks bedbound. She arrived midday and the next evening when I went to see her around dinnertime, my mom was in bed, wet, in her pajamas and had been all day. This was how it was 90% of the time. Response times when the call button is pushed is incredibly long. That's if they show up at all. I always had to hunt people down. It's not because they were super busy. Much of the time they were standing around chatting. Many times the handheld was missing or not working. My mom's room air conditioner was always turned off, and her oxygen was off and out of reach countless times. They give a great speech about how they care but staff never stay long enough to make changes. If you love your family member, I beg you to stay away!

Don’t ever subject an elderly person to this facility. They cannot keep a nurse or executive director and the care is abhorrent. I can’t express strongly enough to not let the pretty building/physical plant fool you.

We picked the community, as we had friends who had their loved ones here and we decided to move our loved ones in. We asked about residents rules and if anything will cause the resident to be asked to leave, or if a resident gets too belligerent. The community assured us that they had experience with memory care needs. There were nurses and caregivers on staff to care for the residents. Over the last year, the family arranged there were a lot more caregivers going into my loved one's room. There was only one nurse on staff for the entire community and was hard to identify. The caregivers was always changing for our loved ones, and this caused some confusion. There were no nurses that we could find. The food had gone downhill and became dreadful. It was very hard to get straights answers about how our loved ones were doing by the caregivers and staff. There was a change of service model by the administration or higher up from this level. There was no care like the community promised in the beginning. The administrator was rude to work with, and decided to pass the family off because they didn't want to work with us and the concerns towards the end of my loved one's stay here. We ended up moving our loved ones out of the community after the experience went downhill for us.

I have a family member in here now. I will not mention any names here. When we first check out Legacy Commons they were supper nice and friendly. Right off I told my family I got a vibe from the head lady there an my vibes was right. Now that my family member is in there certain members of the family get treated without any respect. They are the most unfriendly staff ever. It breaks my heart every time we go in there because we get watch and followed. We were told our visit should me 30min. This should never happen. What kind of place are they running. I so wish to take my love one out of there but its not my choice. Someone needs to talk with there head lady and some of there staff. They should be nice to everyone that comes in there. I so wonder if that's how they are treating my love in there. This is coming from someone that cares. Sorry but someone needs to know and get on top of this.
