A Place for Mom has scored Cambridge Village Senior Living with 9.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 31 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Cambridge Village Senior Living has 160 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.6 out of 5.
My first contact with A Place for Mom a year and 1/2 ago resulted in a recondition to visit Cambridge Village at Apex with two others in Raleigh. As I progressed thru almost 20 facilities visits, Apex became a stronger first choice. During that time My family "geogrphy" changed and I decided to wait to see what was "coming out of the ground" in Wilmington. I'm glad I did, because I believe Cambridge Village of Wilmington is going to quickly surface Apex.

My Mom likes her room. She is 91 so she has not been able to get involved in the various activities they offer.

Tour was wonderful with Katie. She was very knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. I love the place. The atmosphere was very inviting. It's a little pricey.

The staff are awesome! My mom has not participated in very many activities yet so I cannot rate those but I have spent a bit of time looking at what is available and it does seem sufficient, diverse and interesting. In addition, it seems like the residents have a lot of control in the decision making and even informing their own activities that is supported by the organization. There is even an app to Make planning, reaching out to other residents and participating as easy as possible. Apps are a bit difficult for my mom but it is fairly simple. The food is good but does not vary a lot. I would give that a four. There are two options for different locations to eat which is great and there are about four items that rotate every week, The main menu changes quarterly I am told. Her apartment is a one bedroom efficiency so the kitchen is very small and has very little space available. She was able to fit her king size bed in a 92-in couch in the space without any difficulty and has a walk-in closet and lots of storage in the bathroom. From all the places I visited and all the price structures I saw, I do believe that it is a good dollar value to experience. Almost all of the apartments have a view of the fountain or trees and my mom's apartment is on the ground level where she can build her own garden as well as attend the gardening club which is directly across from her and is visibly active. One complaint I have is that many of the documents in the resident handbook are not accurate, but they seem to accept the feedback well. The staff have gone out of their way to make sure my mom is comfortable and to provide her with everything that she needs socially a nd logistically. It is absolutely awesome that they have PT and OT as well as a primary care physician in the location. We have met the physician and worked with the PT and they are both awesome.

My biggest challenge was the company that they have partnered with which I believe it was called Interim. Their nursing aid services at times were not satisfactory. I do feel that they also treated a dear friend of mine very poorly. And refused to allow her to come back to the facility while I was in morning of the loss of my husband.

I did not know when I moved in to cambrige Village that they did not serve breakfast. That happens to be my favorite meal of the day. I guess they do a continental breakfast but it’s just like pastries and cereal. I am also disappointed in the food. When I moved in here, a lady told me the food was great, but to me, it is not. My mom was a fantastic cook and I guess I base everything on that. Their menu seems limited and they have the same thing for three months and then they change it. And lots of times they are out of vanilla ice cream. I have burning mouth syndrome so I eat a lot of cold things to cool off my tongue. That would be my only complaint and everyone is very nice here, but if food is a big part of a place you choose, I would not recommend this place for that.

The main thing that would make my mother happier is more variety and healthier meals. She also feels like Cambridge is bringing in new residents that are not quite able to be fully independent. Some people get lost in the halls or just sit around staring into space.

What we like the most about The Cambrdige at Brier Creek community is how friendly everyone is. Also the gym is excellent and the meals that are served are good. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

There are a variety of activities/ hair cut service/ massage are all good things The dining experience/food variety and options are not the best. Making reservations for dinner is something mom doesn't like. Also, more help for new residents as they try to navigate the new living situation. More help to get them involved- although this is my moms perspective not sure how much or little was done aside from an ambassador meeting up with her a few times.

Overall Cambridge Village of Apex is the best independent living community I have seen. The food is better than any place we have seen. But it needs more variety. The menu does not change often enough, and the servings are small. The food allowance does not cover a normal month's worth of food. Because of Covid, a lot of activities are curtailed. And social events are really at a minimum. We thought there would be more entertainment (things like concerts) offered, but there is almost none. Visually, the place is extremely pleasant. It smells good. It sounds good. It is a joy to walk through. The staff, by and large, are all pleasant. It is a costly community, so be prepared for additional charges that are unexpected. A yearly amount of thousands of dollars is being charged in 2023, besides the annual rent increase, which came as a shock and a surprise. I'm not happy about that. Overall, I would give them a thumbs up for living in this lovely community.

I'm happy where I am right now, but I do think the cost is too much for what we're getting. They're adding on a [price removed] one-time fee at your 1 year mark, in addition to you having to give two months rent up front before moving in, and you do not get it back. There are people who have taken the fee to court, but have lost because the manager gets whatever he wants. A lot of people have moved because of it and I think that the extra fee is ridiculous. It makes a terrible position for those of us who are already living tight. The community has their cliques like every place else, but they're friendly and the food is good. Activities and entertainment are good as well and there are a lot of things to do like musical guest, [name removed], who was just here. They also have a harpist who comes in sometimes on Sundays to play, she's very good. As far as my apartment, I do think it's a bit too small for the money we pay. I have a very small kitchen with limited space to prepare meals - which is another complaint I have. I do, however, love the first floor apartment and the fact that I can open my door and step right outside.

This was a really nice community and it was a very desirable place to live. It was just too far away for where we wanted our loved one to be. The tour was good and we got to see everything and got all the info we needed about the community.

It is a good opportunity, provided the right circumstances. However, the pandemic has thrown a wrench into the activities and other parts of the community.

Very nice facility, tons of amenities. Costs appear in line until you start breaking everything down and then you find hidden costs that quickly skyrocket if you need any assistance at all. If your 100% healthy then this is the place to be.

We looked at a few different communities and even though this one might be a little more expensive after reviewing what they offered there was no question of placing my mother here. She loves living here she finds the residents to be very friendly she has already made friends and she didn't initially think she would. They offer all day dining which was important to her she loves the food. The staff is wonderful very nice and kind extremely easy to work with. We would recommend them.
