My parents began living at Emery Place 3 years ago. I have been impressed that the office staff and many caregivers have been there since their move in date!! This really helps build a family atmosphere in the community and allows the staff to really get to know each and every resident as a person. They know their histories and interests which made my parents feel special. In addition, during COVID they have went the extra mile to balance safety and fun. We participated in a car parade and they had several theme days where the staff worked in costumes to bring joy to the residents. But my personal favorite has been the patio visits over the last several months ?? Emery has been a blessing for our family.

Mom moved into Emery almost 5 years ago, already. She's 92, and has been very comfortable calling Emery her home. She loves the "independence" of having her own apartment, and is able to interact with others at her choosing, or just be cozy inside reading her daily newspaper. The care she has received is top notch, and the staff all very friendly and helpful to her, and to the family. I appreciate the fact they have kept her safe through all the pandemic the past 7 months as well. She enjoys mealtime and the fact she can have things custom made to her needs and wants if desired. I don't have to worry about her on a daily basis, because I know the expert and caring staff is there to watch over her when she needs something. Thanks Emery!

Our family chose Emery Place for both of our parents as we wanted to keep them together. It was the perfect fit and they certainly got all the attention that they needed and also helped the family transition us all during this difficult decision and change is all of our lives. They tended to each of their individual needs with respect and caring. After my father passed my mother moved to the memory care section on their advice ,again a difficult thing to face but they made it a wonderful experience. The small size and one level made it so easy for everyone. That part really appealed to us. Our family was apart of the Emery family for 3 and a half years and we could not have asked for a better place . We appreciate everyone and everything they do at Emery Place.

My sister comments regularly on how very helpful the staff members are. Several going out of their way doing thoughtful small things for her that surprise and delight her. She has expressed a desire for more food served as dinner. It is often more like a snack and dinner is late afternoon. There is an emphasis on sweet desserts which she doesn’t feel is healthy for her. Others really enjoy the desserts. Special care because of Covid has been very well done.

Never in a million years would I have thought my Mom would have liked being in an assisted living facility but she absolutely loves Emery Place in Robins, Iowa. She has been there about 7 months and is always saying how good the people are to her there. She also loves the food and has added a few much needed pounds. Emery has done a great job managing the Covaid crisis and keeping the residents active. Mom is in a much better situation now. Thanks a bunch, Emery Place.

My mom had lived in assisted living for 3 years prior to us moving her to Emery Place. We were needing to find a facility with memory care and knew right away Emery Place would be a good transition for her. Still being able to have her live independently, the assistance they offer is perfect for her needs at this point. Having nurses on staff along with medication management is great. They become the liaison between mom and doctors and manage all her medications and administering them when needed. The staff is so caring and become like family to the residence. I would highly recommend Emery Place to anyone needing to find assisted living for their loved one.

My father and his companion have been in Emery Place for the past 10 months. He has considered it home since they moved in. I think they have literally saved his life by the close attention to his health. For someone who has been so independent and feisty, he has willingly accepted their assistance and care, and enjoys the attention. Both of them have participated in the activities, when they are able. Greetings from the friendly staff are sometimes the high points of their day. It seems like the staff does so many of the little extra things to brighten the their days. Overall, we have been so impressed with our father’s and his companion’s care at Emery Place.

Emery Place is a wonderful community. The staff really cares and gets to know their residents and their families to create a home like environment. Elders are unique and the staff interacts with them as individuals getting to know their life story and interests. They encourage the residents to join in on activities they know they will enjoy. My dad is a fiercely independent 89 year old with Parkinson’s disease who has a tendency to push his limits. The staff does their best to respect his intent to do things himself while keeping safety in mind. Emery’s closer care “early ALZ” memory wing has been a blessing as it allowed us to keep my mom with ALZ with my dad. They share a lovely two bedroom apartment. We give Emery an A+

Our family is extremely happy for the care our father receives at Emery Place. It is truly a blessing to know that he is in a clean and happy environment where he is offered well-balanced meals, interesting activities and lots of smiles and hugs! If it is time to find your loved one a nice "home" other than their own.... Emery Place is an excellent choice.

We moved my Dad into the Gardens (Memory Care) section. It was a difficult decision to make, but the care that Dad has received has made the transition so wonderful for him and our family. The staff is very caring and kind. We feel very blessed to have Dad at Emery Place and would recommend this facility to anyone searching for this type of care for a loved one.

We moved our sister in law [name removed] into Brown Deer Place last November. That was the best thing we could have done for her. [Name removed] was living at home by herself and her health was getting the best of her. Since her arrival at BDP her health has improved dramatically. She now gets three delicious meals a day. We no longer worry about her not eating. She also has made many new friends to keep her company. We also like BDP is conveniently located close to stores, doctor offices, banks, and about any where you might want to go in Coralville. Our decision to choose BDP was easy after we met the staff. [name removed],[name removed] and all staff members are truly professional and ready care for their residents. There is no doubt that when my wife and I are ready to take it easy and enjoy life,BDP is where we will be heading.[Name removed]

My mom moved into Brown Deer months ago and they have exceeded my expectations. She was very resistant to moving from our home to an independent/assisted living. However, everyone was so warm and welcoming that mom adjusted very quickly. I am sure this is due to the warm inviting family community they strive for. [Name removed] & [name removed]’s door is always open and anytime I have had questions or concerns they were addressed immediately. My mother’s happiness is always a priority. I have also observed that everyone that works there seems to love their job. I highly recommend Brown Deer.

My Mom moved into Brown Deer Place (BDP) in August of 2010 with her husband who had dementia. He lived in memory care while she lived in independent living. This worked very well as Mom did not have to go outside the building to see her husband and was allowed to stay with him in the daytime for as long as she wanted. She usually stayed from 6:30 A.M. until around 8 P.m. They ate their meals together. But she went back to her apt. to sleep. When he passed away in 2011, Mom chose to continue to live at BDP as she said that was where her friends lived. The other resident were very supportive and caring as were the staff. Mom really liked [name removed], the manager as well as [name removed] ( public relations) and her husband who came occasionally. She also liked the maintenance man, [name removed] and [name removed], the supervisor of the caregivers . There are too many others to mention who were so helpful. There was also one resident who would reprogram her TV, let her know what channel the Hawks were on, and put new batteries in her weather radio and lift chair as needed. Mom did not always like what was being served at mealtimes, but knew she could order off a menu and get what she wanted. Mom loved the activities and participated in most of them. A favorite was Bingo, comedy and music presentations by people from outside the building, visits from children in the surrounding schools, physical fitness classes, reading books from the library or reading the newspaper, doing puzzles, weekly trips to the store or Walmart as well as drives to see the sights around the area. She could have used the shuttle for appointments but I was able to do that with her. I also set up her medications on a weekly basis. When she was hospitalized during her stay, Mom either went for a period of time, to memory care for assisted living or sometimes came directly back to independent living with personnel assisting her as needed, checking on her frequently. And they brought meals to her room when she didn't feel she could go to the dining room She loved the social gatherings which occurred weekly and also the popcorn which was popped once a week. Overall, my Mom was where she wanted to be and liked the place very much as the staff (for an extra charge) made her bed daily, assisted her with her shower twice a week, cleaned her apt. weekly and changed her sheets weekly as well as doing all of her wash. I would recommend BDP.

I was invited to do caricatures of the residents. We were in the South lounge sitting area which had great lighting. Many had never had a funny drawing done of themselves. All of the staff were very helpful. I especially noticed the way [name removed] gently kept on encouraging one of the residents who was a bit undecided to have her caricature drawn. Finally after all others were finished, she let me draw her. I had a great time talking with them and listening to them laugh about their drawing and sharing life stories. It's never for late to try something you have never done before!
