I have lived at Southwinds Active Adult Community for 7 years. It is a very nice community for Seniors looking for peace, quite and comfort. It has a variety of activities and amenities available. The staff is very courteous, polite and helpful. The facility is keep clean and well manicured. I widely recommend this facility to Active Seniors looking for a peace of mind, comfortable living and meeting great people.

This is one of the best of the very few options in Maryland for those of us who want the quiet of an adult living facility. There is a wide diversity of ages, race and physical abilities. It is not intended to offer medical services on site, but each apt has safety features included. The people I've met so far (it's only been two months) all seem friendly, and there are a fair amount of activities where you can meet and greet your neighbors. I find the apartments to be very spacious, and the surroundings well maintained, and clean. The biggest asset is the management staff who are friendly, accessible and do everything possible to accommodate your needs.

One of the residents agent-took me on the tour of building 2 and 3 for about six months. The tour person was very professional. Took time in showing me the apartments, the amenities and just overall the tour was outstanding..I am scheduled to move into one of the apartments at the Southwinds Senior active community [date removed].

During the lock down due to the pandemic the community delivered food, packages, mail, and other items to us. The community does have a lot of activities for the residents to choose from. This was before the pandemic and will pick back up afterwards. There is an alert button in each apartment for the resident to alert the staff if you need assistance. I love this community!

We chose this community because it was the best price for what you were getting and had immediate occupancy. The room my mother had was a very nice size, but the rooms vary. My favorite part about the community would be the activities they provided for all of the residents. I would recommend Southwinds 2.

Southwinds has a very competent, effective property manager. There are a number of physically or mentally handicapped residents, most with caregivers. It's a good deal financially, considering the cost of assisted living. I have lived here over a year. Visitors park close to the handicap entrance, making residents with mobility issues park further away. There are plenty of handicap parking spaces, but more people with tags/placards than spaces. There are lots of activities for residents with a Bistro and a theater room for movies/meetings. Pool, ping pong, pool table, exercise room, sauna. We have Happy Hour every Friday which is a covered dish dinner prepared by residents. Spirits are provided which I don't take. There is a van to take residents shopping. Thursdays there are donuts and bagels with spreads referred to as Coffee Chat. There always seems to be coffee. I don't drink coffee. These all take place in the Bistro, which is also just a friendly place to meet.

My mother has recently moved into this community and so far I have no complaints. The staff have all been very accommodating to the best of there ability and helpful during this transition. She has had no problems with the food and is enjoying the activities with the other residents from time to time. Overall we are very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.

Mom is doing great in her new place at Southwinds and has settled in quite nicely, a little reluctant at first, but she has become more sociable (not used to having neighbors) and even helped decorate the resident Christmas tree last week. She also signed up for the resident Christmas party coming up on Dec. 16th.The only concerns my mom had with moving in was that 1) her name and apartment number was placed on the community calendar and table in the foyer for everyone to see and take a copy of without her permission (this really upset her, especially given her circumstances with the home assault and robbery which was the whole reason for this move), 2) she had to inquire with the property management office about the procedures for allowing access to visitors since this information was never provided to her, and 3) there is no overhead lighting in her bedroom, only wall outlets, so the only lighting she has is her lamp. So, I would strongly recommend and encourage Southwinds to 1) ask new residents for permission BEFORE publicizing their personal information, 2) make new residents aware of the visitor procedures either via a new resident orientation or including it in a welcome package (all my mom received was a card welcoming and thanking her for choosing Southwinds), and 3) have overhead lighting in every room.

Everything has worked out well for my father here at these senior apartments. He is doing well and seems to have adjusted to it pretty good. They do good job with the keeping the community nice and clean, the grounds and facility is well maintained. There are nice activities offered, they have a small gym and pool tables. Overall these are lovely senior apartments and I would recommend them.

It's very clean, everyone's very friendly. My parents think it's expensive and I think it could be a little bit cheaper and still provide the same level of service. They have a movie theater, a gym, a bistro and one of those pools where you can swim in place. My parents complain a lot about being bored and they say a lot of other people do too. They have card games and catered lunches coming in sometimes but that's not what my parents want to do. If I was in charge of senior activities I would put flyers out asking people for suggestions and see what people like and what they want to do. For senior apartments, it's four floors and a lot of walking. There's slopes outside and it makes it hard for them to walk, so it doesn't seem senior friendly. When they take out the trash, its just on one end of the hall and the building is a big horseshoe. When I visit my mom I take out the trash because I like the walk, but its hard for them.

Seems a little understaffed @ times. Stairs, hallways & laundry not always cleaned and/or vacuumed up to standards. Otherwise, very nice place.

This place looks more and more like a nursing home. So many residents in wheelchairs and a host of others on walkers. Several suffer from dementia or alzheimers. Probably because it is advertised as an alternative to Assisted Living. It is named Active Adult Community, but it really is not. The rent is raised regularly and is very high which is a hard$hip on those of us on a pension.

When we moved in, everything seemed good. The other residents are friendly. There is one office staff who should use their talents elsewhere, not around seniors. The parking is not regulated--a free-for-all. We asked specifically about young adult males living here and were told they aren't allowed. BUT that's not true. In fact, there are children living/staying here.

It is not worth the money that they charge. The new building has shoddy work and the appliances are cheap. What a rip off. The Gym shower doesn't have hot water. What are these seniors paying for?

Price gouging with rent increases through the pandemic as much as $90 monthly increase. Pet owners got a surprise during the pandemic, raising pet rent AFTER pet owners moved in! Cars broken into. Parking is a nightmare with inadequate signage for resident parking. Even commercial vehicles parking in handicapped spaces! Young visitors taking spaces close to building from residents.

We lived there for several years. In the beginning it was great, except for the office help, they were rude to the renters, even more to the older ones. As time went on, and apartments were getting hard to rent, management would run specials. All of a sudden things changed, we were having people move in and out, once the special ran out they afford to live there, some of the people moving in couldn't even take care of themselves, they had no family, management didn't want to be bothered, so many times it was left up to us to try to help out... management has "Happy-Hour" on Friday ... they supply beer, wine and snacks... so many of the residents were on medications and had no business drinking... management said it was a 2-glass, 2-beer rule... well once they left residents did what they wanted... yes, they were of legal age, .. [removed] He had tried to become "friendly" with several women, it took almost a year to get him out of the building. We were very glad the day we left... the place is NOT worth the money you pay for it!

I was a tennant at 4250 Southwinds Pl, [removed] fot 7ys and 10 months. When I moved in the rent was $[removed]/mo. Including water. When I moved out the rent had increased to $[removed] plus water which was $[removed]/mo. That's an increase of more than $[removed]/mo. They refunded $[removed] of my $[removed] security deposit. Allegedly, $[removed] was charged for cleaning windows, blinds, bathrooms, ceiling fans, floors, baseboards, refrigerator, stove, microwave and kitchen counters. Before I moved out I vacuumed all carpets and baseboards. I cleaned both ceiling fans and ascertained that no damage to the apartment had been done. This was a total rip off. This company is totally unethical. The apartment I rented is now being advertised to rent for $[removed]/mo. LOOK ELSEWHERE!!
