My sister moved to Calaroga after she fell and we felt the stairs at her apartment were not a good thing. She wanted to be close to her part time work in downtown Portland and liked that it is close to a bus line. Calaroga has many free activities where transportation is included. She has taken dance lessons, exercise classes, an art class, enjoys using their extensive library, going to discussion groups. There is never a dull moment. She even went to the beach for the day. The food and food service is okay. It has its good days and bad days. It’s seems to be understaffed sometimes. Several times they have missed her day for cleaning her apartment because they said they were short staffed. They were very helpful when she moved in setting up her TV and made some modifications to her apartment which was helpful The only problem we have had was with the autopay of rent. She was way overcharged and it took several weeks to get her money back but eventually she did. She now pay each mo Th but may go back to autopay. She has meet many friends by taking part in the activities. The washers and dryers are free and there are a lot of them which is a good thing as frequently a number of them are not working. She is in independent living but there is the option to move to assisted, on a different floor, if needed...one of the reasons we chose it.

The atmosphere improved with our newest manager. I like my view and love the location. The service in the dining room varies from awful to good depending on the numbers who stay. More training is needed e.e. check back, clearing tables where people are seated, rather than empty places.

Lots of residents so lots of company particularly strong on activities. Food pretty good. Awful laundry room - can't reach half of the dryers. Great reviews from most apartments.

The reason I especially like Calaroga is the building itself. The ceilings are high and even a small room seems large; and the balconies are a big source of pleasure. Nothing makes one feel boxed in and when one comes from living in a house as most of us do, the feeling of space is very important.

I chose Calaroga Terrace because of its great location and access to many social, cultural and educational activities. My apartment is quite pleasant. Calaroga also has the best libraries of any community, run by 2 professional librarians, who are resident volunteers.

Things I like and/or appreciate about this community: - Diversity and friendliness of staff and helpfulness - The opportunity to be of service to my fellow residents (ie Residents assn, Our Store, treasure box) - Location is same area I have lived in for last 50 years and friends and family live fairly close by - I feel quite safe in bldg and my room - With provided meals I don't have to shop, cook or cleanup - Friendships I have made with other residents here through activities and outings

My apartment at Calaroga is my haven. It is my home and my comfort. The rooms are full of light and the city is at my feet just by opening my sliding door. Then I step our onto my balcony I have another room, full of flowers in bloom and a quiet chair to sit and read in. It's all together a pleasant situation.
